jac, I've seen the effects many times. It ain't pretty.
fiorenza, while it would be nice to have days without plans, my savings would soon dwindle and I'd be on the side of the road carrying a sign "I'll design your kitchen for food"
Jim, the purpose for moving near my office was to cut down on those 90 minute drives to work. We still have some repairs and furniture to assemble, but after that I'll look into the amenities that includes exercise room and pool.
When my brother was away at college, he would phone home using the same phone at the dormitory. Always his calls were 'collect' and we wouldn't accept the charges. Right after, we would call him back and talk for lower rates than a collect call!
biff, I dated a woman from Cuba who lived in Miami nearly 20 years. She couldn't hold a conversation in English and her daughter asked for my help. It was a struggle as I worked with her for a few weeks to correctly pronounce TREE (arbol) and THREE (tres) that ended up with her in tears.
I was learning Spanish to teach her English.
As far as Chinese goes... xie xie (sounds like shay shay) translates to thanks and xie xie ni (sounds like shay shay knee) the the more formal 'thank you' because 'ni' means you. ni hao is the greeting for hello, but the 'hao' is good, so you are saying you good. If you add 'ma' that's the question mark 'ni hao ma' or you good? the formal greeting. It's similar to Spanish que pasa? used as a greeting similar to what's up? where the exact translation is what passes (through)
Having the OP respond to every blog comment on CS seems to be the norm. I read on someone's blog that it was considered rude if you didn't acknowledge every response.
The back and forth banter is what forums are used for and they were around long before blogs.
Going back a few years, MD had a chatroom for instant communication, forums for asking questions that solicited responses and blogs to convey thoughts, ideas or just document your roof leak.
Elegsabiff Many of the current multi-bloggers don't care whether they get comments or not, they are already working on the next blog.
Agreed as some blogs are about current events, trivia or a topic only important to the blogger. One example would be my blog/diary about work on my condo. We're past the point of (possible) interest to anyone else. If I continue to add comments and it didn't rise to the top, I'm okay with that.
My suggestion is for administration to reprogram blog comments to stop self promotion. Blogs can only rise to the top when someone other than the OP comments. The bad part of that is it breeds sock puppets.
It's been a while since my last update. Arm, shoulder and back pains nearly gone. We got most of the furniture assembled. Another trip to Ikea is planned for tomorrow. Currently sleeping 5 nights at the condo and 2 nights in Miami.
A friend with a Dodge Caravan offered to move some tables and shelving for me. They came from my home-office in Miami, so tonight I can set them up and return the bathroom door (that's been my desk for the past 6 weeks) and put away 2 small card tables that the door was sitting on!. Yes, bathroom door. 30+ years ago it was standard practice in the engineering department to use flush, hollow core doors as drafting tables. Flat, strong and lightweight.
