RE: "THE ICE AGE?.. ITS A COMIN"

Everyone is allowed their opinion, but to assume the use of fossil fuels by man has done nothing to the climate is without doubt shortsighted.
Prior to the industrial revolution, people anywhere in the world could drink rainwater, that is not true today as doing so would make you ill.

RE: Am I depressed?

You could be needlessly worrying, just feeling low which everyone does now and again. And if you are clinically depressed, better to find out sooner rather than later, lots of ways to treat it and most are successful if caught early enough.

Doesn't say much for his god, that he gets killed for trying to spread his word.

Actually says the opposite, that there is no God, therefore a waste of time trying to convert people, certainly I would not want to be a part of a cult whose leader thinks so little about his ardent supporters.

RE: Biblical Faith: Rational/Irrational? - 'God, I don't want to die,' U.S. missionary wrote before he w

@Jac
If this was an isolated group next to the UK or another 1st world country I would kind of agree, but the people who took him there come from an extremely poor region, they are desperate for money and probably ignorant of the harm they could have done.
Yes, they were wrong, but if he offered enough money to feed your family for a month or more, how many of can honestly say we would refuse?
Interestingly I read in one UK paper that Chau's family are requesting the people who were arrested in connection with his death, should be released.

I do find it strange that John's God did nothing to save this "brave" man who had total faith that by spreading the word of Jesus, he would save an entire race of peopledunno I can only assume God was preoccupied helping Trump come up with a twitter comment. Chau being an American citizen an'allgrin

RE: Biblical Faith: Rational/Irrational? - 'God, I don't want to die,' U.S. missionary wrote before he w

An American missionary is exactly what this man is rightly called, he was endeavouring to spread the word of Christianity and Jesus to a group of people who did not want to hear him, he was warned, he refused to heed those warnings, and ended up dying for a worthless opinion.

I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE WHO MAY WELL BE PUNISHED FOR HELPING HIM.

RE: They're coming to take it away........

Fiscal Year Deficit (in billions) Debt Increase (by FY) Deficit /GDP Events Affecting Deficit

2014 $485 $1,086 2.7% Debt ceiling.
2015 $438 $327 2.4% Defense = $736.4 b.
2016 $585 $1,423 3.1% Defense = $767.3 b.
2017 $665 $672 3.4% Defense = $812.3 b.
2018 $833 $1,271 4.0% Defense = $824.7 b.

So in two years Trump has almost doubled the Deficit, not much to be proud about

RE: It is weird to me

RE: Only 6,000 plus times

Actually, you are right, people never bothered talking much about Trump prior to his election, why? Because everyone knew he was a compulsive liar, that he was a fraud and really not worth the effort to even think about let alone discuss, so yes it does say more, just not the way you are inferringlaugh laugh
If Trump said "Today the sky is blue with some white clouds" Intelligent people would still look out of the window!

RE: Pizza...

Real Italian pizza is actually very healthy, freshly made sourdough base, fresh sauce with olive oil, good unsalted Italian cheese and topped with fresh vegetables and sliced olives,

I have friends in Italy that eat Pizza almost every day, they are not overweight and very healthy.

As with most foods, it is all about how it is prepared and the ingredients used.

RE: The Party is over....

That is if you assume the house will vote against any Democrat proposals, and I think we all know that many Rep Senates are no longer viewing Trump as a great leader, they can also see he needs to be held accountable.

RE: The Party is over....

Going by some on CS, I doubt they actually have minds, let alone open onesgrin

RE: The Party is over....

It's not over until the final vote is counted. but it does seem like the Trump worshippers are getting less and less, as they finally open their eyes.

RE: Leather...

I thought Tencel was a form of rayon, and that it was eco friendly, just expensive when compared to natural fibers.

RE: Leather...

@Jac, Again I accept some of your prognosis, but which is going to be worse for our planet?

Managed. albeit poorly, animal farming, that produces food, wool, leather and has a small impact on the planet as a whole or man-made food that is chemical, often carcinogenic, fibre that together with plastic are indestructible and extremely harmful to ALL wildlife, just look at what is happening in oceans around the world?

We need to look at the whole picture, not just the 21st Century, I want my grandchildren to swim with Dolphins, want them to see lions, tigers, rhino, etc etc just like I have done. But if Vegetarians get their way and meat is outlawed, both your and my grandchildren will lose out in the end.

RE: Leather...

We eat pork and beef, so you suggest we discard the parts we don't eat?

The alternative is to stop eating any meat, great idea, but then what happens to pigs, Cattle, etc? They have become domesticated, if we don't farm them they will die and become extinct.

So Vegans, instead of protecting the death of animals for food will actually cause their ultimate demise.

The debate over carnivores V omnivores is never ending, but in my opinion, humans need meat and vegetables, not one or the other.

RE: You can't make this stuff up.....but some people apparently do.

Interesting thoughts, but after midnight here and I have a lot of travelling to do tomorrow and a busy weekend, will get back when I can, thank you Jac for your insight, I am really interested in this subject but as I said, I have very little knowledge regarding phycology.

RE: Stopping birth right citizenship

I have never belittled everyone, I have pointed out factual mistakes to some people, but that is not belittling them, I have posted factually verifiable true statements, and all I get in replies are opposite opinions which are meaningless or personal comments which are also meaningless.

Your OP was whether an executive order can make it happen, and as Article 14 is written and understood the answer is a resounding NO, Trump would need a massive support from all parties in the USA Government to make such a change to the constitution, and that is virtually impossible, even less so after a couple of weeks.

The actual law as it stands is IMO wrong, it should be similar to the UK and several other countries, but Trump needs to carry it out the right way, not make political points out of it. And it should be written so as to protect those already born in the USA from foreigners. The way it was stated by Trump would actually mean many people who have lived and paid taxes for years in the USA would risk being deported or have to apply for citizenship, which is crazy.

RE: You can't make this stuff up.....but some people apparently do.

@ Jac

I am not fearful of mental illness, my ex-wife was diagnosed with chronic depression and my mother had dementia, both could be frightening, but mainly because they could hurt themselves rather than others, although my mother did set fire to the kitchen once, as she forgot she was cookinggrin
We are in 2018, we should have a better understanding of minds and how to help those who "stray" from the norm.

RE: Stopping birth right citizenship

Well, I have shown I have a better understanding of article 14 than Conrad, so what does that make him if I am a fool?

RE: Stopping birth right citizenship

"It is recorded fact that Senator Jacob Howard did write the Citizenship Clause and that he did say the statement recorded in the post above. However, Howard's intent/beliefs were not added into the text of the amendment itself and do not have any real legal power."

From the American History site

RE: Potluck

I think "Pot-luck" is very American, not common in Europe, where we invite a number of people to our homes, and often guests bring extra food and drinks.
We take turns in inviting people so we not only get to know them but maybe their culture too.(If they are foreign of course).

RE: Stopping birth right citizenship

No one is disagreeing that Senator Jacob Howard included "This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, " However, as my comrade already knows, as this was not written into the constitution so is therefore irrelevant.

People can argue until the end of time, but the fact remains if it is not written in the constitution it has no relevance.

I think that suggesting that certain clauses should or should not have been included in the constitution is heading for a slippery slope.

idea Maybe a clause that would prohibit a compulsive liar from becoming the President, can be found and also added?dunno

RE: Who's truth is it?

Like most people, media make mistakes, some worse than others, some on purpose, like Infowars.
NYT is regarded across most of the world as a genuine and fairly reliable news source, of course, they sometimes get caught out but usually, they hold their hands up and admit the error. I doubt there is a news source anywhere that has not published a "fake" story by mistake or being misled by those who should know better.

Even the OP used to quote from the NYT so not sure what point was being madedunno
