I've been involved in studying, been a centre director (short time) HHDL got me to explain a teaching he gave in Adelaide, i was backed by Deputy PM Tim Fischer for a fair hearing in the Houses of Parliament. However I am not qualified to teach Dharma, I'm a student. I will state its important to seek qualified information from qualified teachers hopefully then we can access the path in future. My studies are limited to qualified teachers of the Mahayana tradition, the Dali Lamas (HHDL) who is protector of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Which are the teachings of Lord Atisha, who completed his studies in what's now known as Sumatra. Lord Atisha completed his studies in what's known today as Sumatra in Indonesia before returning back to India, he then traveled to Tibet and his teachings were realized by Lord Je Tsongkhapa who is the founder of the Gelugpa School. Indonesia has a lot of Buddhist relics, old temples, all dated back prior to Arab traders flooded the region.
The Karmapa Lama (who will stand in for HHDL when he enters the Bardo) is head of Tibetan Kagyu Buddhism school of thought. His linage dates back to around the time Shakyamuni Buddha lived.
