RE: This Is An Example Of What Gun Owners Are Talking About Defending Themselves

In Birmingham city centre, (The second largest city in the UK) a man was arrested after stabbing and killing two men, imagine how many people would have died or been injured in a busy shopping centre had a gun been easily accessed by the murderer???

RE: Do you believe stories that Disney treats their people badly?

Isn't Disney dead dunno

RE: Does America need more gun control laws?

As a casual observer reading all these posts, one thing jumps out at me, those who seem to think they should have every killing device invented, available to every citizen, are the ones who are showing the greatest anger, they are the one being abusive and name calling. They are the ones who IMO need anger management lessons and should never be allow a killing device and only allowed plastic cutlery.
Frightening to think that some on this site will, at some point take an innocent life, because their anger got the better of them.

RE: Should CS purge users profiles..

I think you will find they do an annual purge, I recall a couple of active members had there profiles deleted by mistake and were then reinstated after the mistake was discovered. I seem to remember the Mods said they clear out profiles that are unused for a year or more.
However, my memory is not as it was so I could be talking rubbish dunno laugh

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

Sure am, he was a dreadful editor, who twisted his slimy way out of being actually arrested for perjury. One day it will all come out, but hopefully he will stay on the other side of the pond.

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

You can keep Piers Morgan, we don't want him back in the UK, he is a lying ar&ehole, well suited to working for CNN.

RE: Relationships

Exactly thumbs up
When I had to bail out a family member and became almost broke myself, you couldn't see my ex-wife for dust, yet she had always said money was not important, love was the most important.

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

The fact you continue to call me Liz says it all about you Tom, you are biased and ill-informed, your knowledge of China is at best lacking at worst, completely wrong.
Mao did dreadful things, every Chinese knows that, but, he unified China, created a growth plan that worked, established a way to rid China of the British and their drugs, how many Chinese died from drugs sold by the British to finance there invasion of India.
Every country has its bad moments Tom, yours included, but China has and is growing in power and knowledge, it is learning from its mistakes, and, just like your own country, it will continue to make mistakes, unlike your country, the mistakes so far have not involved attacking far away counties based on lies and for monetary gain.

There is no need to reply, as you will only use the post to further try and be sarcastic.
Merry Christmas Tom, and I hope a peaceful New Year, but won't hold my breath as long as Americans hold opinions such as yours.

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

You have such a vivid imagination, and of course you follow the biased American media, but thanks for the laugh.

The one child rule applies in only the largest cities, of course, the fact that China is acting responsibly towards their over population must really p**s you off, the western media play up the very rare occasion where a woman, who has had more than 3 children and warned many times, may find she has to be sterilised. Chinese people are very aware of the situation they live in, they know there is a limit to how much food is available within their country, 99% agree with the one child rule and most of the rural areas, where the rule does NOT apply, still voluntarily have just one child.
Oh and this is not made up Tom, I teach 250 plus girls, and we discuss the rule every term, they all say the same thing, yes they would love to have two children, but their country just cannot support such a huge population that would occur if they just had as many children as they wanted.

The rarity of attacks on schools in China is due to many reasons, not least of which is that most guns are illegal, anyone found with an unlicensed gun will go to prison for a long time, but, as you have stated, every country have their crazy element, of course, you conveniently forget that the population of China is 1,347,350,000, over 4 times that of America, yet the crime rate is tiny in comparison, you have no idea what life is like here in China, you see a cruel, thoughtless and corrupt communist government, I see a Government trying to feed and provide work for the worlds largest population, they make mistakes, but what government doesn't??
You see a government that controls and a people with no freedom, I see a government that has to be in control and a peaceful country now exists because of that control, I see a people with as much freedom as I had in the UK, what I am restricted on, well I cannot access facebook, big deal!!
I can talk to anyone about anything, I do need to be careful about actively trying to dislodge the government, sounds reasonable to me, they have a tough job without dissidents creating more problems.
Tom, Like everyone in China, we know the government is not perfect, but, we also know that the Chinese are, by and large, a very peaceful people, far more so than western countries, can I politely suggest that before you make more uninformed and biased comments, you read up on the history of China, read what appalling things the British did to them in the opium wars, what terrible things the Americans did to them during the expanse of America and the building of the railroads in the states, read what unimaginable disgusting things the Japanese did in the 1930's, and then, perhaps you will understand a little as to why the Chinese and their government distrust and are frightened of the west.

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

I am not suggesting that all guns are banned, it could never be policed for one thing, but, Americans must start to face their responsibilities and make a better job of ensuring only responsible people have responsible weapons, a family living in suburban New York does not need the same kind of guns as a family living in the wilds of Virginia, hunting with guns is a genuine sport, I also enjoy hunting, but shooting with a semi automatic at a deer/rabbit or even pigeon is hardly sport, being able to hit a running deer with a 12/20 bore requires skill, and to kill with such a weapon gives understandable pride in oneself.
Two people in just this small forum have come forward to say they have been threatened by a spouse with a gun, how many others have kept quiet, how many women or men need to be threatened before someone actually pulls the trigger and then the next victim is the child????

RE: Ideas on how to make our schools and other public places safer.

No one is disagreeing with you Conrad, but, everyone has to wake up to the realisation that some societies are not responsible enough to have easy access to high power weapons, most of the shootings recently reported in the States have been carried out by unstable people with very easy access to guns and explosives, had these not been so readily available, maybe, just maybe, in the ensuing time between the triggering of anger and the actual getting weapons, the cooling off period would be greater, and so, the final outcome may become less likely to be fatal?
If counties that have sensible gun control, such as Switzerland can live without fear of mass killings in schools etc, then America needs to address the root of their problem, namely society and look at why Americans are being irresponsible regarding guns.
I am not suggesting that every gun in America is destroyed, that is a foolish and impractical suggestion, but, burying their heads in the sand is just as poor a solution.

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

Surely the question you should be asking is: Why do you need to protect any school, public place etc ?? What is wrong with your society??

America needs to wake up to the fact they have a problem with too many guns, adding more guns is not a solution, but putting petrol on an already blazing fire!!

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

SO who is going to pay for them Tim?? YOU?? Of course not, so they will reduce the salary of the teachers, who in turn will stop teaching, America will become a land of ignorance and stupidity, or maybe it is already????
You who support the NRA are doing exactly what you complained the Dems are doing, kowtowing to the powerful business's who will lose money if weapons are better regulated.

Face up to your responsibilities, and get a better more modern regulatory system in place for owning guns, simple really!!

NRA suggests armed guards in every USofA school

Where will all this stupidity end? Arm the school teachers/prefects/monitors, lets give a Glock to every 5 year old!!! How about a Berreta with every happy meal at McD's???

America is a wonderful country, I never felt frightened or even worried while I lived there, but this passion for owning powerful weapons is getting completely out of control.
Americans need to grow up, realise that the world has moved on since the constitution was written, you have the most powerful military in the world, you are one of the most powerful countries in the world, yet time after time, you act like spoilt children, who need a smack on the bum and sent to bed with no supper. wink
Those that disagree with my opinion are welcome to comment, but please, don't shoot me!!!!

RE: School Shooting in Connecticut '27 killed'

Does that make it right??
Don't we have enough problems with our planet as it stands today? What with climate changes, hurricanes, typhoons and tsunami's hitting all over this amazing world of ours, do we really need to make weapons to add to the death and destruction provided by "Mother nature" ??

RE: School Shooting in Connecticut '27 killed'

Not wishing to demean this terrible tragedy, but what about the men women and children being killed right now, today, in the Philippines? Over 1000 bodies so far, not by a man made weapon designed solely to kill, and which can be controlled, but by a natural, uncontrollable typhoon sweeping across the southern Island.
My heart goes out to all those who have lost family and friends, but sommetimes I despair of mankind, that we can so easily make and sell weapons, then have the affront to wail when innocents get killed, yet ignore natural disasters.

Actually Father Christmas was a vicar, who became a saint, Saint Nicholas in fact. So he would have been celibate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Haven't been here for years!!!

Hi, you have made me jealous!! You have seen so much more of your beautiful country than me, now I have to save my money and start travelling again, maybe this time I will actually make it to Fushun, shame you couldn't come to Anhui, I would have treated you to a traditional Chizhou dinner, Hot spicy fish hotpot and mifan !!
Welcome back to CS and best wishes. Riz

RE: Do you support Palestine or Israel?

Where is the option for yes and no??

I support Palestine as a country but not their leaders Hamas, nor their creed to destroy Israel.

RE: Q re cookies, pixels, tracers on CS

It is not so much CS checking up on you, but rather the sites you visit leaving a trail, which is then picked up by the advertisers on CS, the internet is basically a huge network of marketing tools and customers.
Google is one of the biggest sites for advertisers, together with googles "Search" system, they can follow every site you visit, determine what you are looking for, and so, place a relevant advert on whichever page you are now reading.
Remember, CS is free, they make money by advertisements, the more hits the advert gets, the more money CS makes!

RE: Spain should leave EU

It's not just the EU that's at fault, but mainly the Euro, to use a single currency for all EU countries that have varying levels of economy was obviously going to end in disaster.

RE: Whick is the worst airline to travel in the world?

I fly Emirate Airlines three times year, they are without doubt one of the best in the world. Their staff are fantastic, customer service wonderful, and as a Silver badge holder I get free food in their top class Restaurant in Dubai for free.
I often fly to Manila with them, so have no idea where you heard such a silly rumor.
Worst company for me was Aeroflot, terrifying in a 12 seater plane when hopping from one city to another in western Russia.

RE: what are the African's known for...?

I am an extremely proud East African, but I also have to accept that all is not perfect in my beloved Kenya, There are, without doubt, wondrous and amazing things that have come out of Africa, but denying the bad only shows you are burying your head in the sand. No-one is suggesting that the bad things posted on this thread, are only happening in Africa, we all know the exact same is happening on every continent. But your original question asks "What are the Africans known for?" So you should expect to get both good and bad examples.
You also need to open your eyes, and realise that while you may know more about Africa and especially SA, those from around the world form opinions, rightly or wrongly based on whatever information is available to them, so instead of criticizing them, correct their misplaced views.

RE: I need someone to cheer me up

Maybe you suffer from the same as me, missing the sun and warmth, I always become less happy as winter comes, there is a name for my condition S.A.D. Seasonal Affective Disorder, you can read about it here:-

RE: Watch China's political system admirable!

But fascism is the exact opposite of socialism, it is extreme right wing, it is anti Marxism, upon which Chinese communism was based, Marxists argue that fascism represents the last attempt of a ruling class of bourgeoisie.
The CPC have said for over ten years, that they want to embrace socialism while encouraging capitalism by the common people. They have implemented minimum wages across China, they are implementing health and pension plans, neither of which are supported by a fascist regime.

“ The historic function of fascism is to smash the working class, destroy its organizations, and stifle political liberties when the capitalists find themselves unable to govern and dominate with the help of democratic machinery. ”

RE: When a cute lady, after meeting few times, invites you for a lunch, what should be the response, esp

Exactly, as for example, here in China, a lunch meeting is very common, just to discuss work/ask for advice/ company, nothing more or less.
Same goes for a dinner date.
Just tonight I had dinner with a young girl who wanted advice on an upcoming trip to England, so sadly, purely businessblues lol, it was all arranged and paid for by a work colleague of mine.
Every culture have their own way to hold meetings, the easiest answer to the OP's question, is attend and ask her.
