She claims that birthdays don't mean much to her anymore, but her birthday sure means a lot to me! It's the day that the light of my life came into the world!
Happy birthday, Sweetheart! Your crusty ol' Plainsman loves ya'!
I agree! Apathy, now, has it's uses. For instance, whenever someone tells me I'm ignorant and apathetic, I respond "Yeah? Well I don't know and I don't give a damn!"
Hate is over rated. Without Mankind there wouldn't be any such thing as hate or jealousy or any of the other words that bother me simply because it's too bad we even have a reason for such words to exist...
Hmmm... Could be I was referring to myself in this case.
In the Chevy Chase film, Wally World is indeed a "made up" place - Kind've a parody of Disney Land. (Didn't realize that was the comedy you were taling about, as I've also heard the term used in American Sit-coms.)
I studied the list and honestly could not choose a favorite. Each of those songs - with the exception of "Mary's Boychild" which I'm not familiar with - brings special memories and scenes to mind. As do many others which didn't make the list...
You know what's funny - to me anyway - is that I'm from Kansas and grew up eating "fried green 'maters" and kinda' like grits, and Jackson was born and raised right here in the heart of the South and has never eaten fried green 'maters and doesn't much care for grits. So much for stereotypes, huh?
Traditional foods are Turkey - the slang term for ThanksGiving over here is "Turkey day" - Ham and stuffing. Sweet potatos or candied yams, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie are perennial favorites that add a special touch to any holiday meal.
Individual customs vary from family to family. When I was young my father and older brothers and I would rise early and go hunting in the morning then return home for the traditional meal. After dinner was over and the dishes were washed, we'd go out hunting again. When I got older, we'd spend the morning watching the Macy's ThanksGiving day parade and then go hunting in the afternoon. In later years, in deference to my father's age, we'd spend the afternoon watching American football and sleeping off a wonderful meal.
I know of some families who had a tradition of playing "touch football" after their ThanksGiving meal and others who would go Christmas shopping. I'd gues that there are nearly as many different customs as there are families...
To be honest, I'm not really sure about Thanksgiving day. I'm guessing we'll tie on the feed bag either here at home or with Jackson's step-mom. As for the rest of the weekend, I hope to spend at least part of it hunting wild boar in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
I once talked with him for nearly two hours when he stopped at a historic site where I was appearing as a civilian scout. Sam is one movie star who can actually DO the stuff he does on film (shoot, fight, ride, etc...) Very impressive man. (And I'm not easily impressed!)
Yeah, I've had that in the past too. It's kinda' like they were trying to find out if I'm really as poor as my mode of dress would indicate (not realizing that my hat and boots cost more than their entire wardrobe) or if I was just an eccentric oil billionaire or something and only claimed to be a truckdriver.
That's only because when you "jokingly" tell them, "I keep all my money wrapped in a tube sock and buried in a coffee can in the back yard." you aren't really joking...
Join me in Wishing the Lovely Jackson a Very Happy Birthday!
