RE: Say Something...Names Are Changed To Protect The Innocent

Hi kamelia wave

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

1st, Your "reality" is obviously different than mine. I know a considerable amount about South Lake Tahoe - How much do YOU know about Claxton, Tn. - or Ellis County, Ks. for that matter?

2nd, Given your manner of presenting and/or refuting and/or answering arguments, ideologies and questions... Probably not. But it might make you more believable and less antagonistic sounding.

3rd, I you think about it - and I won't even ask you to scroll back through every post I've ever made to verify this - I've never even positively declared that I am, indeed, a McCain supporter. But instead that I simply do not trust, nor intend to vote for, Mr. Obama at this point in time. No sir, I simply made a statement a few days ago that reflected Mrs. Palin in a positive light and was set upon this morning, by you, in the aforementioned "disparaging manner."

You know, I don't really expect to agree with or even get along with everybody, everywhere. And it's true that I can show my claws from time to time, albeit sometimes unnecessarily. But it's also true (whether you believe it or not) that I respect the views of others even if I don't happen to agree with them. And you'll very seldom catch me trying to impose my own personal beliefs on others against their will. What I WILL do is defend myself, and if sometimes the best defense is a good offense, then you can bet your bottom dollar that I won't hesitate to use it. (Usually - tho' admittedly, not always - in a polite and/or humorous and/or thoughtful manner.)

One last question: Has any of this really accomplished anything, other than to help us sharpen our typing skills and confirm what we both already suspected?

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

My apologies - "Buddha Vaski" is, of course, so much worse than anything you've used.

Well, jvaski boy, I would! ...Except that I have no reason to "go for it" as you put it. If YOU will scroll back, you'll see that my initial comment in this thread today was in response to a disparaging remark that you made concerning an earlier post of mine. And you didn't even bother to A., quote the post in it's entirety (forgiveable in this case since it's something we're all guilty of from time to time) or B., respond with anything but more attacks. Or C., answer politely and rationally any of the questions I've asked you.

My apologies for mis-quoting you. You are correct of course. ...But it might not have happened if you had used the term in such a way as to let us know that you did not, indeed, mean "stupid." comfort

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Ruh-roh! Did I scare him away by using politely worded, thoughtful reasoning against ill-mannered vehemence?dunno laugh

RE: Say Something...Names Are Changed To Protect The Innocent

There's ALWAYS room for one more! yay laugh

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Uh-oh! Does that mean that you're going to keep on with the name calling, or does it mean that you're actually going to present well rounded ideas and thoughtful reasoning instead of the "because I said so and you're stupid" mentality that you've been displaying? laugh handshake

By all means, do your damnedest to convert me to Obama - As I mentioned before, I've got an open mind - but please, PLEASE give us something more substantial than the hollow promise of un-named and non-specific changes, ok?

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Seems to've gone quite well - Although I'll admit that being on a 10# lifting limit this week while recuperating has got me bored to distraction. (As you no doubt have noticed.laugh ) I'm so used to being active and on the go that I guess I'd forgotten how to "take it easy." (When I told the Doc that my idea of relaxing is a 20 mile canoe float down the Clinch, I was threatened with "enforced bed rest!" grin)

Good to see you, Sky! I trust things have been going well for you?

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Someone once told me that "Adventure is just another name for poor planning."

I travel a lot because I enjoy the journey, not because I want to prove to others what a stud I am or how brave I think others think I have to be to attempt whatever it is that I'm doing.

I'm also quite well read - Tell me something; Have you ever read Homer while backpacking in the Bob Marshall Wilderness area in Montana? Have you ever read Homer at all? ...Didn't think so... Kinda' doubt that you've read much more than a few pages of anything of substance -- or if you have it just didn't sink in.

I rather doubt that you have "determine this after many conversations with Repubs and asking why they didn't want some real change in an administration." In fact, I rather doubt that you've ever done any conversing with "Repubs" at all, other than trying to start a shouting match.

Knucklehead - Boy, that's a good one! And you even spelled it right! (Did you learn it in your travels?)

I know some names too, but you'll notice that I've refrained from using them, though I've no doubt had good reason.

No sir, you've done a marvelous job of showing the kind of person you are, so I don't reckon there's any need for name calling on my part. I do however have broad shoulders, so if it makes you feel superior or more like a "man" to resort to name calling, by all means do so. It will simply make it more readily apparent to readers the type of person who thinks that Mr. Obama is the answer to all our woes.

Oh, and personally I don't give two hoots what people outside this country think. One of the biggest problems today is that our politicians have spent precisely too much time listening to the opinions folks who DON'T live here and want to dictate how WE live that they haven't taken the time they should listening to people who DO live here.

Have a nice day! wine

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Actually, I don't care what she's wearing or who she is or even what gender or party she belongs to.

Had the roles been reversed, I would have said the same thing about Mr. Biden.

(It's called having an open mind.)

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Oh, thank you Buddha Vaski! bowing bowing

I'm guessing that you must have seen that on T.V., because it's obvious that you haven't spent much (if any) time in the South. Me, I happen to live in "the South" and I've traveled all over this great country and much of Canada and Mexico. And the truth I've found is that folks in the metropolitan areas of "the North" i.,e., Chicago, Detroit, Toledo, Pittsburg, New York City, Philadelphia, etc... are much more likely to be "prejidous" (it's actually spelled - p r e j u d i c e d) than those in "the South" or any other <perceived> "rural region."

But thank you anyway for your misguided attempt at enlightenment - Your insight is exceeded only by your lack of understanding.professor

Now, let's you me and Bubba go drink us some brewskis and talk about something you ARE knowledgable about! cheers

RE: Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to me

What a coincidence! 5 years from now someone else I know will be your age.

Happy Birthday, Starlin!

And may you have as many more as you'd like!

cheers happy birthday

RE: Describe your path

Not much to describe when there's not much of a path. And I've never much been one to follow the paths layed out by others. It's certainly not paved, although I'll readily admit that I've borrowed a few foot-bridges from time to time - Mom might've raised some fools, but she didn't raise any DAMN fools - just to help me get across an otherwise unbreachable chasm.

Nope, not one much for following the trails of others - although I've taken more than one deer trace through some pretty rough country - but I've left a bit of sign behind me now and again just in case someone might want to catch up and tag along for a while.

Guess I'm just not much of a follower though I won't hesitate to defer to - and learn from - someone with more knowledge or greater ability. As far as that goes, I don't consider myself a good leader either, although, admittedly, some would disagree.

Naw, I reckon I mostly go my own way - whether it be up, down, sideways or in reverse - and try to leave things undisturbed or maybe just a little better for someone else who should happen to stumble upon my track and decide to amble along it for awhile.

...Not much of a path at all, so I don't reckon there's really all that much to describe...

RE: If you have met up with a CS face to face, how did it go?

I too have met several folks from this site and most of them have become dear friends. I'm looking forward to meeting many more.

One in particular that I met, far and away exceeded any hopes or expectations that I could have ever hoped to have had and in fact has succeeded in proving to me that, indeed, dreams can - and do - come true. I am speaking, of course, of my lovely wife Jackson.

We both remain on this site - despite our own success story - because of the friends we have made and continue to make here. And because of the ability to send each other virtual flowers--something we both do regularly and treasure deeply.

RE: Check which age group is rating your photo higher than others and guess why

Hmmm... Oddly enough, the 26-32 group has consistantly rated my pic higher - by a margin of .33 and .32 respectively - than the two higher age groups. And I almost NEVER rate photos.

Hmmm... confused laugh

RE: Book Reports Are Due!

Well since you asked...

The most recent book was "Secrets of the Turkey Pros" published by the North American Hunting Club - of which I recently became a life member.

The writing isn't quite as tight, in some places, as one would hope, but as a whole, the book is quite well put together. And - whether one hunts or simply enjoys the outdoors and observing nature - it is quite detailed and informative and should be a welcome addition to the home of any outdoorsman, either as a coffee table book or reference manual.

Prior to that, I re-read Norman Mcclean's "A River Runs Through It" for probably the 100th time. In fact, I think I've probably re-read this book more than any other and I just never seem to get tired of it. And anyone who has ever read it will understand why. At least if they are fans of good writing and subtle humor and appreciate the sly wisdom that comes with age.

The book itself consists of one short story and two novellas and one needs only to read the opening or closing paragraphs of the title story to want to read more and more and more...

To prove this point, I'll end this post with the aforementioned closing lines:

Now, nearly all those I loved and did not understand when I was younger are dead, but I still reach out to them.

Of course now I am too old to be much of a fisherman, and now of course I usually fish the big waters alone, although some friends think I shouldn't.

Like most fly fishermen in Western Montana where the summer days are nearly Arctic in length I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon all existence fades into a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four count rythm and the hope that a fish will rise.

Eventually all things merge into one and a river runs through it.

The river was cut by worlds great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.

RE: What does drinking do to you?

Oddly enough, beyond the first mild little buzz, it doesn't do much to me at all. I learned long ago that I can drink prodigious quantities and still pass a DUI test. It just doesn't have much effect.

I guess that's the biggest reason that I don't drink much - I know it's not going to do anything beyond a certain point, so I don't see any reason to keep spending money for no additional results.

On the other hand, if I'm with a group of folks (say at a Mountainman Rendezvous) who are really "tying one on," then I will deliberately and gradually slur my speech and act the part of the clown (which I generally do anyway) just to fit in and get the laughs. At the end of the evening, though - when everyone else is passed out around the campfire - I'm making my way back to my own camp to drink a cup of coffee and maybe a quart or so of water to offset the dehydration that alcohol invariably DOES cause, before turning in for a good night's sleep in my own bedroll.

Oh, and since alcohol doesn't do much to/for me, I also haven't had to worry about a hangover in many, MANY years!thumbs up

RE: WHAT? NO DEBATE FORUM>

1st - Just exactly what part of your opening question was funny? And in what way?

2nd - You made a completely generalized statement and I responded to to it and just happened to use "the dude from Denmark"s threads as an example.

3rd - Your reply may very well been "to the guy with the blue shades" but it was made in an open forum and if you didn't want anybody else to respond to it, you probably should have made it via private e-mail.

4th - If you really have read "dude's" threads that much then you have my sympathies. comfort drinking sigh

RE: is it possable

Well, by my own admission, it doesn't hurt that I'm a long-haul truck driver and distance didn't really mean much to me in the first place. laugh

But thanks! (My heart has been singing for quite a spell now, too!heart wings )

RE: WHAT? NO DEBATE FORUM>

Wow - I'm guessing that you haven't read any of the twelve thousand or so Obama threads that Dude has started!

I'll even agree that I was more impressed by both of Palin and Biden than I thought I'd be. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say that McCain wouldn't have been my first choice for a Republican candidate. But NONE of that makes me trust Obama any more than I do my ex-wife. (Which is, to say the least, not at all.)

RE: is it possable

Having already found my true love, I should recuse myself from this thread - BUT... What the heck!

Possible and probable, while not mutually exclusive, are two different things.

I, for one, moved a thousand miles precisely because my true wasn't staring me in the face where I was at before. wine

Haven't got a clue in the world - I haven't gone any further than the back yard or the garden since I got home from surgery on Monday...sigh
