And I'm willing to bet you'll enjoy Sunday, too! But don't worry about the wetsuit - The water's cold, but I've never capsized this canoe except on purpose. (Besides very stable, I've got too much Scots' blood in me to take a chance on losing my fishing gear! )
Damn, we're gonna' have to be careful or we'll end up posturing like bucks in rut!
Naw, I've already got the only gal I'll ever need - I'll let you other three studs take care of the rest of the gals while I hide behind m'lady's skirts.
Yep, know what you mean! Jackson's idea of "roughing it" is a 2 star motel instead of a 4 star hotel. My idea of roughing it is going out with a blanket and a knife and then leaving the blanket behind.
Not sure about "tent service" but there are cabins for rent in the same campground - not sure how far in advance they need to be reserved.
Thought that if we decide to do this again next year, we might rent a cabin for the entire weekend, but - like the lovely Jackson pointed out to me - we need to get through this year before we start planning for next year.
It's very cool! In more ways than one - the water coming out of the dam is a constant 42 degrees fahrenheit. Scottishlass did a little wading yesterday and turned blue up to her knees!
Not much, but we hope you'll get an idea of how beautiful it is. (Jackson & Scottishlass can personally tell you that the pictures don't do it justice!)
The lovely Jackson (on right) and the indomitable Scottishlass at the picnic site. Ignore the "No Camping" part - Camping is available a short distance (1/4 mile) away.
Plenty of room for everyone! Ya'll come!!!
And the beautiful Clinch River at the upper canoe ramp, just below the picnic site.
Gonna' be some fun times! Ya'll come an' see us!!!
You're quite welcome! You do know where the 'East' state park is, right? (Just on the East side of the dam and up the hill - 1st available right and we'll be at shelter #1.)
Yep, I'll second everything Anne said (except the part about how wonderful I am - Jackson's safe because she truly is wonderful!) and the place really is as gorgeous as Anne mentioned.
It'll probably take me a bit to get photos up - some are in Jackie's phone and only 1 is in mine - but I'll try to get them sometime this evening.
The place is really easy to find and we'll sure that everyone has specific directions as well as our cell numbers just in case someone gets turned around or misses the exit, etc...
We had a lot of fun today, running around and looking things over with Scottishlass and I'm sure that everyone will be as delighted as we were when we finally got to meet this sweetheart of a gal!
We're really super-duper excited about this and the site we've chosen is in quite a beautiful setting on the East side of Norris Dam on a ridge above the lake. We'll be close to the Clinch River (below Norris Dam) and we were able to show Anne some of the places that folks can visit - including the area where we'll do the canoeing if anyone is interested - and she can probably tell you as much about it as we can.
Anne, on behalf of Jackie and myself, I want to say what a thrill it was to finally meet up and we're looking forward to "not being strangers." (Especially since I clocked it on the odometer on the way home and we only live about 18 miles apart!)
Great place, good folks. Ah yes, fun times do indeed await us all!
Ok, let's see... The construction is on I-40 in the downtown area, between I-275 and and I-40 @ I-640east. So you'll take I-75 to I-40 East (75 & 40 do run together for a bit), then take the I-640 bypass East to I-75 North, then about 20 miles later you'll be at the exit for Norris Dam State Park (exit 128). (And no one - North, East, South or West - will have to worry about the construction project at all.)
I'll make a point of e-mailing specific directions to everyone with the possible exception of Darlynda (because she probably knows more about Norris Dam State Park than I do!) before the event. Might even try to tackle it tonight, but it'll probably be next weekend.
I'll also make sure that everyone (Darlynda included ) has our cell phone numbers, just in case anyone gets turned around.
Aw shucks, Katie! Hey, me and Jackson have an idea - Drag yourself up to Tennessee in about 3 weeks and have a good time with friends at a picnic! Nothing makes the blues leave faster than spending time with friends!
(And I'll mention again that if you can get a load coming to the Knoxville area, I'll make sure you've got a good place to park and then I'll give you a ride to the doins and back to your truck afterwords.)
Mildred was a 93 year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband Earl. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death.
Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out Earl`s old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place.
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and burden to someone, she called her doctor`s office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be. "On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart would be just below your left breast."

Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her left knee.
Unless somebody wants diet soda or something special, you don't really need to bring anything but yourselves - We're making arrangements to feed everyone (menu to be finalized later) and just hoping to re-coup our initial expenses.
That way nobody has to worry about toting a bunch of foodstuffs, etc... across a couple of states. -- Just makes things simpler that way.
Yeah, but it's just in downtown Knoxville - They're about 4 months into a 14 month project to widen I-40 through downtown. It won't affect our get-together.
It seems that every day I encounter people who the reinforce my basic belief that there are very few personal problems which cannot be solved by a suitable application of high explosives.
Quite the contrary - I didn't sleep worth a damn last night and just came off a 12 hour day driving through the mountains of Tennessee and Virginia and back to Knoxville. My eyes look like two p*ssholes in the snow, I've got a stiff neck and I need a shower so bad that the cat won't even play with me... On the other hand, I've been on full alert, mentally, since 5:00 A.M. and I guess I'm just still in my "pay attention to everything around you" mode.
A Few (3) Advance Pics of the Knoxville Get-Together Site...
P.S. Sorry it took so long to get the pics up - I was working on the chicken pen 'til full dark last night. (Finally got it done! )
