Lee..in this case it's AWARENESS ..and it's positive ! If we aware of something bad happening or about to happen maybe we can help changing things in some way?
As long as you're happy with whatever you are and...as you say.. It keeps you grounded... Then there's nothing wrong with it is there? It could be that you are more realistic and down to earth ?
But...can you still achieve your goals?
Now...It would be interesting to hear your views on both?
Why do you think that people wouldn't be interested? That's a NEGATIVE feeling meaning you are already under valuing yourself ?
There are always some people interested..somewhere...but how do you know unless you try ? Nothing is NEVER a waste of time! We all need to learn in order to grow.
Which is better, in your opinion? Is your glass half full or half empty?
Looking at both ends of the scale, we could look at it as positive, and negative but... is it really?
Both have advantages and disadvantages and most people are not at either extreme, but fall somewhere between.
Optimists might be good starters and will persevere regardless of obstacles, but may not stop when they should have.
Pessimists may not start at all, overcome by difficulties before they start. However, once they get started and achieved success, this fuels their confidence to carry on.
It is most widely thought that optimists are non-realists, which they can be if their perception of reality is distorted but, If you are an optimist based on realism, you are more likely to succeed.
As for Pessimists, they are more accurate about reality.
Research has shown that optimism is correlated with many positive life outcomes, including increased life expectancy, general health, better mental health, increased success in sports and work etc. and better-coping strategies when faced with adversity.
Life coaching behavioral techniques may not necessarily involve teaching people “optimism”, but instead, just reducing pessimism.
Surprised to hear??? Many Brits fly from and to San Javier, I know, it´s only a small airport but cheap charter flights. (Ryanair, Easy Jet...) - it´s only 45 mn from where I live.
I don't know about Buddhism but.. In shamanism... during the course of the medicine wheel work...we had to get rid of the Ego...as well as the roles we play in our life.
I believe in Buddhism there is something similar...so I've heard?
I have just read your comment and agree entirely with what you said.
I am led to believe that when a person knows that they are wrong and choose to stubbornly maintain their position, then an internal dissonance develops. This leads to further mounting of emotion and irrational thoughts and behaviors. They know they are wrong and refuse to admit it.
Exactly! I put this down as an Ego issue.
Also, as I wrote in one of my blogs: "Being happy, or right?"
A person who knows they are right rarely loses their temper or succumbs to emotional outbursts. True! It even becomes laughable at times.
Having said that, I can already hear the steam mounting inside people who want to argue against what I have said.
Probably but... I doubt if they will comment on this thread, but create their own thread instead?
During my teaching career, we also had some conversation topics such as smoking, drinking, etc. and, like you pointed out, about the death penalty... And the class was divided into two groups with each side debating pros or cons... but, from the other side perspective, without judgment nor emotions involved, and staying "detached" from the outcome.
