I agree... all you can be is a good person yourself to the best of your ability... normally when people are nasty is due to some lacking in their character.. perhaps a difficult upbringing or something like that... or it could just be that there having a bad day... at the end of the day we have no control over what other people do... we can only be responsible for how we treat people

I had to really think about this one... cause the romantic in me does not want to make any concessions...

On a personal level I think they are a cynical indictment on the institution of marriage.. but on a practical level they can serve a useful purpose... as long as separation and divorce exist there is a place for them..

e.g they can be a useful aid to settlement and negotiation of terms..and save a lot of protracted hassle...

Don't like them, but have to reluctantly agree with their usefulness

Love is a pure emotion.... hate is a pure emotion on the opposite end of the scale... indifference can exist independent of either and in fact need never be associated or acquainted with either... thus I would say hate is the opposite to love...

to put it another way... if hate is 'black' and 'love' is white then indifference is 'grey'

What I would say though is indifference 'opposes' love in that it does not leave itself open to the possibilties and risks that love brings...

my earliest memory that I can think of is my first day in school.... we had these little minature desks with blackboards on the inside.. which I just thought was the COOLEST thing ever... well I was happily scribbling away... nothing in particular... just testing the chalk and the teacher asked in front of my mum... in that condecending voice that adults employ when addressing children... 'oooo thats lovely what is it? '.... I remember thinking... 'what a stupid question.. it's a scribble.. what d'ya think? ... so I told her it was a monster...that silenced her... heee heee
