RE: On feeding Trolls...

Stop feeding that freak! Gosh, it's the same damn people who keep feeding him too. Get a grip already. Is it that hard to ignore him? I know drama is fun to engage in, but c'mon.

RE: In the history of the world, there has never been anybody like Jesus.

Very fascinating lecture. Delves into the reliability of the New Testament gospels by arguing that the texts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John we possess are late derivatives. The lecture also discusses the Q source , and how Christianity did not emerge from Judaism as some reform/revolt, but that it emerged as divine inspired ideas from the sages in Galilee (influenced by Greek culture) of the Hellenistic period, and not really by God or Jesus. The lecture also demonstrates how the book of Mark was constructed as a literary work (Greek Tragedy), not a historical work.

The lecture and scholars are saying this, I'm not. I'm just the messenger here, and found this to be really fascinating. Puts a whole new light on Christianity.

RE: What is Reality??

Thanks for sharing sophiasummer. I liked that more practical sense of reality.

RE: What is Reality??

I check it out over there at Stanford (quality site). I've read up on that a bit in terms of consciousness, and it is very interesting. Are you saying that robots may become self-aware and revolt against its creators? uh oh laugh I wonder what Skynet (from the Terminator) is up to these days. I actually have a cool video about some experiment done with robots where they try and fool each other---I'll dig it up another time if I remember.

Only a matter of time before the robots and internet become self-aware and destroy us all!!!!!

RE: What is Reality??

I agree totally with your first paragraph. And I agree with everything in your second paragraph--except for the last sentence. I guess the last sentence is a discussion for another time since I don't have the energy to draw you into some mind chess game lol! I was reading up on some Jungian observations, and I had some thoughts---but another time. cheers

RE: Is the engagement ring really important.

This thread was interesting for the first two pages, then I noticed a patterlaugh

Too bad more women could not have participated in this thread. I noticed the one response from a woman who really felt it really meant something was Catholic----while all the others (besides one) were not religious---though one non-religious woman did mention that the ring was a statement in relation to her status as single or taken which meant that it was very important---valid point indeed.

I was boreddunno laugh

It doesn't really matter to me, but if it really matters to her, then I'll do the ring thing (that rhymed!). And if the funds are there, I have no problem with getting her a fat ring---just another way of me expressing my love and passion for her within my limits. Who said giving material things is such a bad thing if you can afford it? However she perceives it is up to her, and that's fine with me. If I do buy a nice and expensive ring, and if I can afford it, then I'm really doing it for me. I am not suggesting that this is the only way to properly express love, nor is it must, but I am just saying it's a nice expression. Plus, I don't mind my woman having a ring so other men know what's up! Not to say we have to get married now since marriage isn't that big of a deal, but I can see the ring being a bigger deal for me---in terms of just being engaged.

RE: essence of a woman in man's persperctive...

A woman's inherent nurturing nature, and her peaceful and understanding ways. I'm pretty sure the world would be more harmonious if women had the power, or at least shared more power.

RE: What is Reality??

Okay, thanks. I've heard of some these ideas of "agreements" via regressive hypnosis sessions where a being of higher consciousness speaks through the patient to reveal lost knowledge or anything metaphysical. I've also heard of this from channelings of other entities through various channels/people. The paying off Karma debt is pretty well known as well. Like a person coming back into this life to be the caretaker of somebody he/she may have harmed in a past life time etc.

I've also heard that Karma is self imposed, and not self inflicted. The recognition of the fact that it's self imposed clears it supposedly---zero point.

As far as the other ideas in your post, thanks for sharing them. I've heard them all lol, trust me. So many versions out there, and perhaps they are all parcels of reality within existence.

RE: What is Reality??

Well, in a sense. I'd be careful to use false thinking here---unless it pertains to a thing that is empirically true---like 1+1=2 or the score of a game or the law of gravity etc. I'd say different thinking based on subjectivity which encompasses our beliefs, definitions, emotions, behaviours, awareness, knowledge, and our total consciousness. Goes back to the saying, "we see only what we want to see".laugh

In any case, I'm on board with this existence of reality based on individual thinking. If somebody is convinced it's true, then it's true for them---until it alters.

RE: What is Reality??

I would say their emotions is what is real in those circumstances, and those emotions (along with the way they remembered the event) would filter or distort what they perceived.

RE: Do you like it hot and spicy?

I use Tabasco on almost all my foods...

RE: What is Reality??

How, in your words, is this illusion created? Just curious to hear your response.

And what are these purposes you speak of? Are they strictly individual? Does and individual purpose tie in with the collective purpose? Can this purpose be an illusion as well? Or is it just as real as your thoughts?

RE: What is Reality??

Yeah, I understand what you are saying Ginger. I can see that is being true, and a path to perceiving new realities such as the paranormal (normal in my world). Beliefs and thoughts are real things, and our subjective beliefs just may help us perceive new realities when we deny limiting beliefs that don't work for us or feel out of tune.

We all have our own truths, and in this world of duality and polarity, there can be no one representation of reality since we all "think" we are different with our different belief systems.

RE: What is Reality??

Yes! I'm totally on board with that idea Ginger. It's a staple of my belief system. I do strongly feel that people who share the same "vibration" perceive different realities than those who are of a different vibration that is governed by belief systems, awareness, and of course our DNA. It's a different set of physics based on a different holographic template from what I understand.

All realities are part of reality itself within existence. There is no one "reality" except for existence itself. That is what I can really comfortably deduce.

RE: What is Reality??

Oddly enough, your paraphrases were relevant to the discussion. wine

RE: What is Reality??

I agree. We can only define what is real for our own selves---that is our personal reality that is made up of all that is within the collective reality---meaning there are indeed two or multiple or even an infinite amount of distinct realities, and only a reality becomes so if it is observed and experienced---along the lines of Shröedinger's cat.

The problem I see here, is that the word reality itself can have very limiting terms and ideas, since that is the nature of how we define reality with our labels and tendencies to categorize things. To me, reality is something that expands and expands---like an infinite patters like a geometrical fractal.
My point is, that once we uncover a reality, it leads to a new one and a new one and a new one etc. So this would conflict with any ideas that a certain reality that one has not observed or experienced does not exist, since that is hard to imagine.

The example of a car is a good one. For instance, if a tribe in a jungle never saw an airplane or a car, does that mean it does not exist? It only doesn't exist to them since they are not conscious and aware of an airplane or car, while airplanes and cars are embedded into our reality.

So, I agree, nothing is set in stone, and there are realities that are waiting to be discovered or invented in the future for us. Does it mean that it already exists on some other plane of existence? Or that we discover and invent such realities by observation and experience---meaning they never existed until we bring them into existence with invention?

And to throw things off here, if there are other civilizations out in he universe with advanced technologies, that would mean that many of our inventions have existed for billions of years perhaps!

RE: What is Reality??

laugh Aha! Makes sense now, you silly woman! I guess my radar is off here.

I do side with Blues in that sense though. If one has never seen an object or experienced something, then that reality does not exist to that person's perception---one can only be conscious or perceive something that one has observed or experienced. However, this is not to suggest that it does not exist within the realm of existence itself. It is a "one" that is part of plurality---in a Platonic sense (Theory of Forms). Then another tricky idea is that we cannot observe the objects as they are in themselves but only their representations, and who is determining what a thing or experience represents? Was it there before we thought it into existence, or an invention of our own minds?

So, having said that, what is real? Can there be an independent and objective reality? Quantum consciousness has thrown some classic ideas into chaos since it (along with Eastern philosophy) states that reality is not out there, but a projection from within lmao!!!

RE: What is Reality??

I agree. Too bad Plato, Socrates, and Parmenides can not get into this discussion lol! These are complicated questions that are at the root of philosophy.

Not really. Shrödinger's cat is an example of a quantum wave collapse---meaning two states can exist simultaneously before it is observed. It has spawned the "many worlds" idea.

RE: Where would you most like to go on vacation?

Gosh it's starting to get chilly here in Sweden. I'm debating on going back home to California for a visit either this fall/winter or this spring/summer. I don't want to go anywhere else and waste my money---even if it's warm. Actually, a pit stop in Mexico City will be part of the plan. I'm dying to visit Mexico City and see my long lost sister for the first time ever---along with some cousins.
