Judge Joseph Charles made a huge mistake in his initial ruling. Bear in mind that there are a vast amount of loopholes in our judiciary system. Fortunately, the ruling was overturned by New Jersey’s Appellate Court---it ruled that the husband's religious beliefs were irrelevant and that the judge, in taking them into consideration, "was mistaken." Justice was served, and my stance remains that the 1st Amendment will always win, as it did in this ruling---which went one step too far.
I think you're using your imagination too much with your speculative thoughts. There is nothing wrong with that since it is raising awareness, and in that line of thinking, extreme Muslims who are new to the USA (like this Moroccan man) will have to respect our laws. Shariah law will never supersede US law, that is a fact and not speculation. You can't find any examples to support this. The ruling was overturned, and like I said, it went one step too far.
The main problem is that in the Islamic countries, the ruling government and families are traditional and conservative Muslims. The balance of power has to shift to the progressive/reformist/liberal Muslims, as to evolve that religion---and that means not accepting Sharia law with the flawed interpretations that the zealots impose and wrongfully adhere to.
Also, Park51 should be cancelled, unless some other spokesperson/Imam takes over---like a progressive Muslim as well as trusted real estate company (unlike Soho Properties). Furthermore, it should be cancelled since the people who are involved in the construction of the community center/mosque are refusing to say where their funding is going to come from. Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, also said: "There should be transparency about who those investors are, whether that money is coming from domestic interest or not, and if it's coming from foreign interests we need to know, because I think that's a liability, and it shows that there is another agenda rather than domestic security and tranquility."
What can Islam contribute with? Who cares? It shouldn't contribute to anything in any secular society.
I've already met plenty of progressive/liberal Muslims and have hung out with them (had fika). They come from Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Macedonia, Albania, Kurdistan, and Somalia. Some of them are my friends.
I am fluent in Swedish, and like I said earlier, you are focusing too much on the traditional/conservative voices of Muslims. Of course you'll hear some scary things from them. Bear in mind that their are many schools of thought within Islam. The faction of Islam that is being magnified does not fairly depict the Muslims who live in and who chose to live in Western-secular cultures. They do not promote Sharia law.
Hey moonmana1 All is well man! Hope you've enjoyed your weekend.
I see your points. How much have you really investigated into this? You stated "they", "they" are the conservatives, and they are only a voice that is echoed from Islamic cultures, not secular countries.
Imam Abdul Rauf has no intimate ties with terrorists. Where did you hear that? I don't like his world view nor do I agree with his stance on spirituality and how politicians/institutions need more Islamic influence, but those are just his ideas. No worries man, the 1st Amendment!!! The guy is not as powerful as you think.
Not all Muslims interpret the Quran in a uniformed manner, just like not all Christians interpret the Bible (OT/NT) in a uniform manner.
Who is saying the planned community center is going to be perceived as a victory? Seems the only ones who have been echoing that thought has been the Western media. What Muslims have said this? It's supposed to raise tolerance and awareness---as weird as it may seem. Personally, I think it's a bad location to do that and that there are other ways.
Where are you wrong? Just your assumptions that are constructed by the conservatives and the media.
In Islamic countries, yes, the US/Europe/Israel is perceived as the enemies by a lot of people (generally speaking). On the other hand, the US/Europe/Israel views Islam as the enemy. Interesting huh! The power of religion!
I see the evil in Corporatism, don't you? The world needs to change my friend. To me, selfish Corporatism has really made a lot of people angry around the world. That ideology is the real enemy since they have so much influence with our government at every level.
Mine is updated! Does it really matter? It's so hard to see everybody anyways due to the small nature of the pics. Well, I take that back, I can see enough and ponder sensual things!
Ship was a cool guy and really funny, and he was in his share of CS battles that provided some good drama.
Claayer was cool as well! She was easy going and funny.
Ah, so many come and go, and I think it's awesome that many have remained! I've been here 2.5 years now, and I feel like CS is one of my homes on the internet haha.
RE: Favourite expressions.What's yours?
The expression may have had to do with the product and service not functioning the way the salesman convinced us it would
