RE: Demanding Profession

laugh

I bet they're now wondering how teachers manage to get "whole classrooms" of kids to learn anything at all when they can't even cope with 3 laugh

Yep!! New level of respect!!!

Which reminds me ... some of the kids of the "choice" neighbourhood where I used to teach, used to shout at me in the street "Respect Miss!! You're top dog!!" ... which I had no idea what it meant till my daughter translated it for me laugh

RE: Is everyone on the forums housebound ?

Why? Are you offering? batting

RE: Is everyone on the forums housebound ?

Hey!! wave
Soooo the last few days ...
Saturday was jam session day where a few local musicians set up in the "bikers bar" and play and sing rocky/bluesy/jazzy and those of us who no longer care dance to keep warm if they're playing outside laugh

Sunday I had the most cosy warm lazy day with my wood stove burning toasty ... Don't think I logged on ...

Monday had a few appointments and commitments for translations and helping a couple of friends who bought me lunch ...

This morning started with breakfast at my local... she always makes me delicious sandwiches with granary bread and only charges me "friends prices" for them grin ... followed by a trip to a next town for sorting out some paperwork. Bought a few vegan foods not available in my village then stopped for a coffee and bumped into an old ceramicist acquaintance and we ended up chatting for a couple of hours.
Got home and prepared myself some food ...

Waiting for the bathroom to warm up a bit so I can have a shower before going to bed dancing

Tomorrow the local artisans and artisans are setting up stalls with their creations and hopefully make a few sales. It's an event I've organised and will happen weekly.
Then in the evening we have choir practice and we'll probably go for pizza afterwards which I'm going to enjoy for once as I managed to buy vegan cheese today and if I take some of it along, she makes me a vegan pizza!! applause

Next day I'm getting a visit from my niece who lives in Denmark!! We'll probably have more vegan pizza while my cheese lasts laugh

Not too bored round here!! yay

RE: The difference between Greek & English culture.

They could do if they wanted to ... but usually the recipes need spicing up a bit with a bit of garlic and onions, peppers and some herbs ...

Things like Lancashire hot pot and shepherds pie are quite nice. And for dessert strawberry trifle or fruit crumble with custard cream or ice cream cheering

RE: The difference between Greek & English culture.

she said Armenian not American ...

RE: Does worrying solve anything......?

I think if people only ever worried one time in their life, they would be extremely wise people (or total sociopaths)

RE: What happen with Norway?

Weirdly enough young children don't think of figures like Santa or even their school teachers as people with a gender who would have a "life outside of their role" and even less about their relationships ....

When I was a teacher I was going through some difficult personal "thing" and mentioned something in one of my classes with some 11 year olds. Many of them were so shocked ... they thanked me and told me up until that point they had never considered "the humanity" of their teachers and that they had homes with responsibilities and husbands/wives, children, problems etc... wow

RE: Does worrying solve anything......?

No ...

There's a Spanish saying that says "ocupate de ello pero no te preocupes por ello" (deal with it but don't worry about it) ...

RE: The difference between Greek & English culture.

Cool!! Pity you no longer have your restaurant!

Yeah good idea to get them valued. If they're famous the paintings will gain value as time passes..

RE: The difference between Greek & English culture.

In Greatstone in the Southeast of England, where I used to spend some weekends with some artist colleagues/friends, there is a fantastic Greek restaurant where we used to eat at times. My fav dish was kleftico! Absolutely mouth watering meltingly delicious!!
The restaurant is not too far from Dungeness where the artist Derek Jarman had a house and once he gave one of his paintings to the owners as payment for his unpaid bills from when he used to hang at there with his artist mates. Mr Demetrio was rather annoyed and nearly burned the painting. Fortunately his wife didn't let him because roll on a few years and when Derek Jarman's estate was being valued they received a visit from a lawyer who wanted to see the painting and told them it was worth thousands. They proudly showed us it. Very impressive!!
