I've just learned, Australian Claude Stanley Choules, the last living combat veteran of World War I, died yesterday at 110. He was also the oldest living veteran of both World Wars, and the oldest living Australian.

I've read that any life-change can be stressful, whether it's something wished for or something dreaded. Leaving behind one's usual support network would focus all that stress on the couple.
