Bogeys, yes...but, curious that you asked "What" instead of "Who."

RE: The Pledge of Allegiance of America

That'd be YOU, apparently. For starters, it's the "Pledge of Allegiance to the United States," not "to America." (Unless you also mean to pledge your allegiance to Canada, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Jamaica, Cuba, St. Maartens, Honduras, Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, Guyana, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay..I may have forgotten a couple of American states.)

Then there's this, for your edification (which you are in dire need of). The United States was already more than 100 years old when some guy named Francis Bellamy wrote "The Pledge," in 1892. But it wasn't adopted by Congress as anything official until 1942.

Bellamy's version left out God! That may piss you off. No God in the Pledge of Allegiance??? Well, that's how it started, yessirree: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

(Bellamy left out the words "equality" and "fraternity" because he knew that in 1892, that would mean, women and blacks.)

Even before the US Congress got their hooks into it, the Pledge got changed, in 1923, by some quasi-official entity called the National Flag Conference. Worried about confusing immigrants, they changed "my flag" to "the flag of the United States."

So, nothing sacred about that text! It can be changed at will, or at leisure.

And it was. More than 60 years after, a congruence of religious-minded folk and anti-communist folk persuaded Dwight Eisenhower (who had only recently been baptized) to sign a bill incorporating the words "under God" into the Official Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag, in 1954.

Except...

The US Flag Code is not really law. Violating any part of it carries no penalty. It's really just "proscribed behavior."

RE: Can "LOVE" truly be felt via the Net?

Yes. Or No. Up to you.

The real question -- the only one that's gonna matter, to you -- is, can I feel "LOVE" via the net?

And the answer will depend on you. Some can and do. Others cannot and don't.

How open to feeling love are you, or how closed? Could you feel it online, could you feel it in five minutes, ten minutes, eight days? Could you only feel it in a warm embrace while you had a diamond solitaire on your left-hand third finger? Only you can decide.

RE: who is the greatest nfl player of all time

After losing his only Super Bowl appearance, Marino publicly ridiculed his AFC championship ring as "a loser's ring." To a Miami Herald reporter.

Intelligence? Leadership? Well, he went another 14 years and never got so close again.

Riggins was a great RB, but you can't really rank him amongst the greatest, sorry. The 'Skins OL (The Hogs) belong in the Hall of Fame long before he does.

RE: who is the greatest nfl player of all time

So many players you could make a case for. Jerry Rice certainly belongs in the mix, I agree. Then there's Charles Haley; in the modern era, he holds a singular record: five Super Bowl rings (three with San Francisco, two with Dallas). Or how about George Blanda? Lawrence Taylor redefined defensive end; his influence persists today. Then there's OJ Simpson. He did something no one else will ever have a chance to do: surpass 2000 yards rushing in a 14-game season. Derrick Thomas too might be worth mentioning, except for his untimely death. And...and...and...

RE: YouTube cited as largest jihadi platform on Web

I clicked the link. Before I even got to the article I noticed that the site is supported by "Ads by Google." Google, of course, owns Youtube.

On to the article. The sole source cited is the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). Clicking on MEMRI's link reveals they are "an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization." Sounds okay. Until you notice that MEMRI supports itself by selling its own reports:

All of which seem to indicate that Islamic militants ("jihadis," according to MEMRI) are engaged in a global conspiracy to attack the West. These reports retail between $75 and $360.

So, MEMRI, the sole source for this story, is in the business of selling fear. They're a modern-day version of the John Birch Society.

Should I ditch my sweet loving gf for this hottie?

There's a reason my profile pic shows me with my gf, with both our CS names included.

Anyone who was not a scammer would get that point pretty quick, I think.

I bet you get invited to a lot of parties, huh?

There's this thing called a "joke," GlODveSIRIS, in which people say things purely to make others laugh. Sadly, some folk just don't get it. Oh well.

RE: Online or Long distance relationship .

By "purely online," Jac, I meant folk who never meet, make no plans to, and never will. I think clearly that's a substitute for the real thing, and different from an LDR.

This total babe viewed me recently. Here's the entire text of her Profile:

"About me:

kiss my name is m---- j-- m---- am caring and lovely lady and caring lovely and sample.

I’m looking for:

i need a man that will love me and care for me and trust me very well .that will make me happy all time.and will later marry me" (sic)

Sounds enticing! And I notice that she already has seven friends on CS, all of them grey-haired men. So I might face some competition.

Should I abandon my loving, lasting relationship with my sweetie for this barely-literate gal with a cheerleader photo? rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Dumb people posting dumb stuff in the wrong forum like this one!

Seems like most folk missed the word "this" in the OP's post. She referred specifically to the "Site Suggestions and Feedback" category.

And she was entirely right. Here are some recent threads, posted by people like you in that category:

"alki. or an outcast." (about drinking problems)

"What will happen this Friday 21/12/12?" (about nonsensical Mayan prophecies)

"someone that chooses to write slanderous comments on someones personal facebook using profanity show..." (about rude internet manners)

" HAS BRUCE WILLIS PERSONA BEEN DIMINISHED IN FILM: A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD..." (about actor Bruce Willis)

"Define Curvy Please" (about CS's categorization of female body types)

Clearly, only the last could be even tangentially related to "Site Suggestions and Feedback." Honest truth is, folk like YOU are posting threads wherever they want, because they are selfish and don't wanna share. You don't like being called out? Don't blame the OP. Instead, never reply to a thread posted in clearly the wrong category.

Yeah, sure. Like that'll happen. Still, don't blame the OP for being right.

wine

RE: Dumb people posting dumb stuff in the wrong forum like this one!

I agree entirely. People intentionally post their threads wherever they want, because they are selfish. They don't wanna share. They want THEIR threads to be noticed, and don't want them to get bumped down by others. Selfish, plain and simple.

Well then...heh heh...why don't you email him back, and tell him "Thank you for letting me know, I shall try to improve and become more beautiful." That oughta shut him up.

I sometimes write film reviews on Amazon and IMDB. From time to time I get insulting comments ("worst review ever," "you're an idiot," etc.). My standard response is: "Thanks! Glad you liked it." Never hear any more about it again.

That's bizarre, Hoolet. Is it possible the guy is not native to the language, and has misunderstood the word for its antonym?

RE: Online or Long distance relationship .

A purely online relationship is just a substitute for the real thing.

LDRs, on the other hand, can work for some people, sometimes. It depends on the distance and on the couple's personal situations.

I don't think it looks promising for young couples of an age to start a family, for instance, without one or the other moving.

And if the distance is so great that neither can afford to travel that far more than once a year, they won't be getting much face time.

I'm in one now. We don't get as much time together as we'd like, and it's not as regular as we'd like either. Yet we both feel lucky to have each other.
