Does an anymous OP deserve a second chance with us infidels?

Oh right, what else would we expect from Iceland...excuse me, Finland.

Well you're still a hottie, so either way, ok.

wine

Does an anymous OP deserve a second chance with us infidels?

Let's say an OP creates a thread, perhaps one asking if an infidel partner should be given a second chance. Then, Whoa!!! The OP vanishes! Should we continue responding to that thread? Or would we all be boneheaded brainless idiots to not notice that the OP only wanted confirmation, and fled when he didn't get it?

Darn, that sucks! I was gonna show up on your doorstep with a dozen pink roses and two tickets to Brownhill's album debut party....but you're a Pisces, so we might as well not try. Bummer.

RE: Just a thought on guns

Bob Dylan, 1962:
"I heard some footsteps coming up to my front door
So I grabbed my shotgun off the floor
I ran around the house with a hussle and a hiss
Sayin' "Hands up, ya Communist!"
It was the mailman.
He punched me out."

RE: Which is your favourite veg dish?

My favorite veg dish is one I call "Salat-casserole du Respect de Jac." Separately, you stew a blend of green beans, gigantes (if not available, normal lima beans will serve), baby carrots, and capers, with red and sweet vidalia onions. Stew until tender, then let it cool completely. In a large mixing/bowl, lay down a light bed of romaine, arugaa, and little gems lettuce. Strain the stewed veggies over the lettuces, ensuring all the juices permeate. Top this mixture with seasoned croutons and crumbled feta (or, for sans cheese, seasoned tofu crumbles) and bake just until the top is toasted, maybe 15 minutes at 350.

RE: Black Death dug up

Here the BBC reports, vaguely, on the link between Black Death and HIV immunity I mentioned originally:

Although this report does not mention the identified "pockets of immunity" found in England.

RE: Black Death dug up

I identify the historic 'Black Death' as primarily the septacaemic strain, because of its extreme mortality and quick onset, as described by multiple chroniclers of the time. However, there seems little question that all three strains were widely circulating simultaneously, thus aggravating the misery.

There's been some debate about whether y. pestis was the culprit, yes. My impression from the literature I've read, though, is case closed, it was y. pestis.

wine

RE: Black Death dug up

There might be some real good reasons. Like, finding an immunity to AIDS/HIV.

The 'Black Death' (generally thought to be the septicaemic version of the bubonic plague, yersinia pestis) was better documented in England than most anywhere. And it turned out, there were some isolated pockets where mortality was much much lower.* Genetic research in recent years has suggested some unknown natural immunity to the plague, and bizarre as it sounds, some descendants of those apparently immune populations have also been linked to a statisical likelihood to not acquire HIV, despite high-risk behavior.

The link is tenuous. Y. Pestis is a bacillum, and HIV a virus. Yet any apparent link between immune populations is worth looking at.

*Although London was not one of those areas.

RE: Should the people voting on the Pope just get a clue that no Pope is God's way ?

Thanks Ooby, but no, sometimes I am just being an intolerant jerk. I hate folk who speculate on other folk's business.

The smoke signals, like the conclave itself, are quite ancient, and date back from the time when all Popes, by default, were Italian (and thus, local). The church is not about to abandon such romantic traditions. But right now, this very moment, as I write, there's some cardinals in there with smartphones who can't resist spilling some beans. And there will be some Facebook Friends who hear them.

But offcially, it'll be the white smoke that says who.

Umm, ok, yeah, that could prove awkward. Perhaps we'd better postpone the wedding for, say, 97 years?

RE: Would you marry someone with a handicap/disability

Now, wait a minute, Who.

Let me apologize, first, if you know me from these Forums primarily as a joker. I am usually. But I can and sometimes do offer sincere and thoughtful advice, as here. So take it if you like.

I don't doubt that after the failure of your former marriage, you blamed your disability, and felt that trying again was a waste of your time, and a nuisance to a prospective partner. Ok, fair enough. Maybe it was true, then.

But it needn't be. Yes, if wheelchair-bound, you face a host of life restrictions. But romance need not be one of them. Nothing's more attractive than a happy, self-confident person. So toss away the bitterness and the self-doubt, and focus on being the best, most happy guy you can. Just do that, and women (or men, if you prefer) will come flocking.

Favorite quotes? I've two:
