For a new guy, you really lucked out in picking the Saturday of a 3-day holiday weekend to upload a Primary Photo that doesn't show your face. Usually those get deleted pretty quick otherwise.
I thought so too, although I also experienced the annoyance of intrusive strangers. The major reason I'd like to see it return is that now the only option for a private conversation with someone else is an endless series of emails.
I've heard from a few overseas members that it sometimes works, and also that it works from the Chat Room (a different matter), though it never has for me. Nonetheless, the OP makes a point. When you go to log on, the page you see before you log on has a message saying the IM function is down for maintenance "for a few weeks." That message has been in place for a year now. Either they get it working, or take the message down. Otherwise, it's a flat-out lie.
