Sometimes I just can't pass up a good opportunity.....I mean, after all, if they're going to just set up the gag for me, I might as well deliver the punch line!
Speaking of pics.... I received an email tonight from a man who proceeded to give me advice about my pics....he didn't like my first one, said I should use the 3rd one, and that I would have more chances if I did!!!! OMG. And the funniest part? This wonderful advice came from a man who posts NO picture at all!
You know, if I would have just read your thread-starting post, instead of jumping straight into page 48, I would have known what the lists were for!
Yes, I would love to have a long-term relationship. I don't see much likelihood, to be honest, due to my location and my job, but what the heck....nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? By all means, add me to the list.
I haven't been in this thread until now, and 40-some pages is too much for me to go back and read through. Dana, would you mind catching me up? What are the 2 lists about (men and women)?
1. I have read the posts and, as I digest them, I see another America-bashing line, and most particularly in what YOU write. 2. Poor use of the English language? I quoted another writer's phrase, to begin with, and my grasp of the English language (as well as a few others) is quite strong, thank you very much. 3. As for this part: "thought you were Employed in the Embassy .... well use some of what you learn there!! I thought you would have more insight working for the Gov and understand walls have ears.... I wonder what the head of staff in supposive embassy would think about you using their pc's on this site...." Are you f*&%*# serious? Do you think I even go on this site while I am at work? I do my job, I do it well, and I am perfectly aware of communications security, etc. I don't have time to come to the Forums while I am working, even if I was naive enough to think that my computer at work isn't monitored. Yesterday was a holiday for us and I took today off to enjoy a nice long weekend, as my boss had chosen to do the same. I write this and every post from my home, not from my office.
It is your tone in your messages that I take umbrage with, Tamarin. How did you MEAN for this sentence to come across, if not with hostility? --- "I wonder what the head of staff in supposive embassy would think......etc." I very seldom have issues with anyone here, but your threads today have shown an attitude towards America that I, for one, am sick of. Ask yourself this.....how many threads have you seen that have been started by an American which are clearly insulting and aggressively poking at another country? It's ridiculous and it serves no purpose other than to antagonize. And, at the time that I wrote, you had indeed mentioned us....what were the words you used? Hmmmm.... "dictators" was one that I recall. And finally:
"You obviously have not been exposed enough to the suffering that this subject is about and that all THE TROOPS WHAT EVER NATIONALITY ARE BROUGHT HOME"
How much more exposed would you like for me to be? I have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I slept in a tent for 4 months, shook my shoes out every morning to make sure I wasn't going to step in with a spider, suffered from dehydration, took malaria pills that made me have nightmares, wore a helmet and flak jacket daily, and ate MREs every day. I was right there with the soldiers for 4 months. And in Afghanistan, I sat crouched in the hallway of my building more than once when the RPGs hit. How much more exposed would you like for me to be?
I live in Greece because of my job.....I work at our embassy here, as I did in South Korea and Afghanistan and here before as well. And when I leave here in 2 years, I will go to yet another country. I love the opportunities and experiences that my work provides and I, too, am a huge proponent of expanding horizons. Travel is indeed mind-broadening and humbling; in my life, I have traveled to about 35 countries, lived in 5 of them. I have learned so much -- about others, and about myself -- through my travels. But, it's just a matter of reality...not everyone has the same means, opportunity, time, or money.
Do I take what you have written personally? Not in the least. I don't know you, you don't know me. I won't lose a moment's sleep. In fact, it's all rather impersonal, not personal. I simply call it as I see it. And my previous comment still stands. Nothing personal.
And many, many Americans do travel abroad and they do bring in huge tourist dollars as well. Let's go back to the previous comment... 24% of Americans have passports. That's roughly 75 million people. 75 million! Considering that those passports are generally needed for long-haul travel (across the Atlantic or Pacific), that's a pretty sizeable amount of people who are indeed widening their horizons and experiences. I'm just not getting your point here. Kansan was absolutely right; you DO have to consider the land mass....and consider time, also. If an American is going to travel to Europe, he or she would want to make the most of their journey and ideally have enough time to see as much as possible. We wouldn't just add 2 days to a weekend and have a 3-night get-away in Italy or France or wherever. But Europeans CAN do this because they can get to a different country so much more quickly. Anyway, there are many factors that should be considered and you can't fairly compare Americans with Europeans on this issue. It's not a level playing field.
Driving in the U.S. is a nightmare??? Really????? Somehow, it just seems that you are prepared to criticize everything about us.
Coordinated attacks sweeping through India's financial capital Mumbai have left at least 78 dead and scores injured. Gunmen targeted luxury hotels and tourist landmarks, seizing hostages in violence that left the head of Mumbai's anti-terror operations dead
I had exactly that....pain in my back, ultimately radiating down my leg, into my foot, causing numbness and constant discomfort.....no, it was pain. You must see a specialist. You will likely need an MRI, in addition to X-rays. Like others here, I am no doctor...and even if I was, an online diagnosis without a thorough examination would be foolish and unprofessional. All I can say is that I ended up having surgery. It was to a point where I had no quality of life, basically. So much pain...couldn't walk 5 minutes without near agony. My surgery gave me my freedom of movement again. Pain left immediately. But, that was just my situation. You may not need something so major as this, but you shoud still consult a doctor.
Ras, you highlighted "Hi Jeffrey" from Bob's previous post and said you are "corn fuzzed"....
It's my name. Yes. I am Jeffrey. I swear. No kidding. No, I am not a man. No, I have never BEEN a man.
And to Bob....(and Rose)
Rose said that she didn't know that we are an item. ARE we an item? Seems like only a couple of days ago that we introduced ourselves to one another on a thread. Oh, wait. It WAS just a couple of days ago. Are we an item, Bob? Please tell me, because I'm thinking that I have been way too out of touch, if that's the case. Dating and relationships these days obviously aren't what I remember them to be!
Thanks, Dennis (about the pic and for your post). Who knows what he might really be thinking inside, but all I can say is that he was sweet and never made me feel that he wanted anything more than to just talk for awhile. If, however, he wanted anything more..... He's younger than both of my sons! It wouldn't be something I would go for.
I don't think that love stops as soon as someone has done something bad towards me. I think everything goes upside down, you feel hurt and anger and the pain of betrayal, but I think you feel these things because you still love. Love isn't a faucet that you can turn on and off and instantly have it or instantly shut it out of your life. I believe that you know when the love is gone when you realize that the pain has gone....when you have only a memory of what happened, but nothing inside you wants to cry anymore...when you remember how it felt but you no longer feel it. If you can go from ninety to nothing in the blink of an eye, I don't think real love was ever part of the relationship. JMO.
Hi, Bob. Nice to meet you, too. Just FYI, it's JLB, not JIB....though it's hard to distinguish in small letters. I have an unusual name for a woman, so hold onto your hat, buckle your seat belt, take a deep breath, and for Pete's sake do not send me any jokes about it, for I've heard them all! LOL
RE: Long-Term Relationship --- Send a Flower
Whisper it....I'm dying to know what you can't say!
