Public servants in Japan

Last month, there was a local election. For days, vehicles with large speakers roam around to ask the public to vote for so and so candidate. Some candidates go to the train stations haranguing passers bye with their platform, or just greeting the public. I took notice of one of the candidates since he was the very first to be seen there even for days it was raining and quite cold. He would greet each one while extending one hand with his flyer. On one morning like that, I noticed that nobody wanted to take his flyer, so when I was about to pass him, I took his flyer. There was no meaning indeed since Iam a foreigner and not allowed to vote. And even Iam allowed, still I can't since I live in a different city. Since then I just thought he ought to win for his patience and determination. So when I saw him, the following day right after election, I know he won. One thing I like in Japan very much. The results of election is known in a matter of hrs and the elected ones go out and thank the voters. Very nice system! Unlike in my home country where both local and national election results may take months.doh I saw him again this morning on my way home. He's quite a looker too!

Rest in peace,Rebecca.

For weeks now, I've been following the disappearance of Rebecca Watts. Iam just in awe with the British police for being able to solve the mystery of her apparent murder. Indeed, really fast. Just goes to show one of the disadvantages of second marriages. So sad for Rebecca. I have no daughter but if ever I have one I'd be reluctant to marry again. So sad. So very young a life to be taken very early and brutally.sad flower

A princess?

I'm on my second week working in a factory when I happened to talk to a lady who I thought to be a Brazilian because of her exotic looks, t'was right after eating lunch. She said she's from Nepal. Her looks is definitely not Asian and has such a positive aura in her. So I asked her is she's married to a Japanese, of which she said no. And that neither her parents are of J ancestry. Just out of nowhere I said then you must belong to some kind of royal blood with her looks and her aura. And her eyes wondered as if to see if somebody else knows and then shushed me. Could she really be a princess? Just like some African Americans who are really prince and princesses from where their parents came from. Or some Filipino Jdescendants who are really a part of the sultanate and thus prince and princesses in their own right too. Just amazed working in the factory with other gaijins like that young Chinese man who looks like fresh from the academe and yet do the lowly and low paying job just like the rest of us. Iam amazed working and knowing people like them. Iam rich in personal experiences but my wallet is poor.grin

A weird ordinance

In one city in the Metro Manila area, a city ordinance was passed limiting to four the number of pet cats and dogs. I'm just wondering if they could pass an ordinance limiting the number of children every family can have. With so many dog and cat eaters around, will the city council change the limit?

Politics?

There was a kind of reprieve on the execution of some convicted drug smugglers. I don't have any personal ill will against the drug dealers as I believe in the saying that it takes two to tango. It seems like the lawyers of the 2 Australians with the backing of their govt are using the delaying tactics. I wonder if those who are murdered/victims of drug fueled crimes were given such a time. True, they've shown their true talents and shared them to other inmates who later when released could become good members of the community. But what about those who already perished or in the brink of point of no return. I just can't simply understand. Is that what humanity is all about? Reading what the two were able to do inside the jail made me wonder why in the first place they did put it into good use. I simply consider them geniuses but too late a hero!sigh
