Exasperated!

today, i was asked to be a go between the Japanese trainor and Filipino job trainees. a sort of translator. There were 2 Filipinas and one Filipino. the guy showed his enthusiasm and eagerness to work. At one point, the trainor asked the ladies if they'd like to write down some notes. With some air, they replied that they don't need to since they understand everything. Right after the explanation, there was a sort of test. And lo and behold, after the 30 minutes test the trainor check their papers. The guy got 96% while the girls got 44% and 54%. If they only have that bit of humility and more perseverance.sigh

Worried

It would just be a flat week and my home country would choose who would rein it. One candidate is espousing change. Most of us are tired of the corrupt system which has been going on for ages. But embracing one with no economic platform except to annihilate all the criminals. Killing all the criminals would leave just a handful. And most probably the ones who would be left would be his supporters. I'm not trying to be personal but with his bravado, can he walk the streets alone without any armed bodyguards? Theirs is a clan of politicians who have been associated with violence from way, way back ago. With their looks, I'd be nervous walking along side them even if they just walk alone. Still wishing my countrymen would keep their emotions on hold and choose the best.bouquet

Vicious

One of the presidential candidates of my home country blurted out that he shld have been the first to rape the late Australian rape victim. When he was bashed for saying so, he issued an apology to the Filipino people. I just can't understand how crooked the mind of that man and more so of his supporters. I cringe every time I think what if he wins. If ever, it won't be a democratic system with a rule of law. People have been lambasting politicians in various countries for their gaffes. This one tops them all!moping sigh

The train from the opposite lane stopped and several passengers got off including thee 4 foreign-looking young men. They had that happy look after all it's Sunday and probably had a fun day roaming the town. They were around 4 meters away from the exit when they stopped and turned around. I have this little game of watching people who dillydally in getting out of the train station especially those who deliberately stay behind. Then I spotted one station staff waiting at the exit. Only then I understand why they hesitated to exit. If they underfare their tickets, all they have to do is go to the fare adjustment machine, insert their tickets, pay the adjustment fare, get the adjusted ticket, insert it into the exit box and they'll be able to leave the train clean. But, they never did that until the train on my lane left. It was something like 10 mins. Most probably they entered an unmanned station and would be exiting another unmanned station. I noticed that their happy look was changed into a worried one. Indeed unmanned stations aren't abreast with the time.

Election blues

Come May 9, Filipinos would choose the next pres from 5 aspirants and a vice pres from 6 candidates. It is a mixture of old and new politicians. One candidate is espousing federalism to solve the war in the Southern Phils. Just maybe he doesn't fully realize that some groups want to be a separate entity from the Phils and want to establish their own republic. He is too proud on the low crime rate of his city being a mayor for decades. Accdg to one observer, the low crime rate is attributed to armed personnel for every 50 ft or so. Maybe a result of local airport bombing yrs ago. I just can't help comparing him to an ex pres who started it out as a city mayor and was well loved by his constituents but was impeached. Seems like some can better serve on the local scene only. One candidate whom I've adored for a long time wants to serve the country till her last breath if only there's an assurance that she'd be around until her term if she ever wins. Ahh, my country I love! If only it's managed well, it could be really a paradise and all the overseas Filipinos would come back in hordes and live permanently. Wish the best who could really serve well wins. moping

Amusing!

I just can't help but smile when me and my co workers converse on work related issues. We all speak Japanese in varying degrees. I've been in Japan for over 20 yrs yet my conversational Japanese is like 60%. The teener is the newest being here for less than a year so I'm told. In our area, nobody is Japanese. We're all a mixed lot. The Peruvian staff speaks fluent Japanese and of course Spanish. Iam trying to remember the little Spanish I've learned during college some 40 yrs ago. doh Our leader is a Peruvian who speaks Japanese and when he ran out of words he would rant in Spanish and I can't help but smile because I just couldn't understand. There are Brazilians, Filipinos, Vietnamese and of course Peruvians. I still have to adjust to morning rush to the train station but Iam beginning to like the place. In all my yrs of working here, I've never worked in a company hoisting the Japanese flag correctly. Iam quite nationalist and a sentimental one at that. Not sure why but whenever I see a flag waving above me, I feel that sense of peace and freedom. Iam not undermining my previous workplaces who could be bigger if not as big having branch out in other countries. Nor branding the people behind those companies as not nationalistic. We all know how nationalistic the Japanese people are! I do find something special in each of my work adventures. Wish I'd last this time around!bouquet

What a sad life!

Just this Monday, a famous Filipino movie director passed away at the age of 49 due to a heart attack. Yes, they say people who died of heart attack is getting younger. But the circumstance in which he died is very saddening. His sister had a heart attack earlier and he followed her to the hospital. Upon learning that she was DOA, he suffered an attack too. Now the family lost 2 well meaning members. Very tragic! May they rest in peace.

Spot on

Yesterday was my 8th day in my new job. I got hold of a box to put air bags to be used in wrapping packages. I put it beside the table assigned to me and off I went to gather the boxes I'll use too. It wasn't even a minute and when I came back just in time to see a lady who was on her 3rd day grabbing the box of air bags to her table which was at my front. She is fair-skinned, dressed up like any Japanese lady in her 40's, speaks Japanese very fluently, greets everyone just like any Japanese would normally do. I thought she was Japanese till that very minute. Seeing her grabbing the box which she saw me filling up with air bags and she saw me pulling it beside my work table and she saw me seeing her snatching that very box, I'm just disappointed. I won't mention the nationality so as not to be branded racist. What I did was put down the boxes and showed her the boxes of air bags assigned to her which was at the top of a rack to her left side. Good for her since the boxes were a lot bigger than the one assigned to me. That means less time for her to refill them. She joined us during lunch break and I had a closer look at her. There was something out of place on her upper ear part. Not so sure but she seemed to underwent cosmetic surgery. Heck! She's someone I shld stay away from. Didn't even say sorry till we bid goodbye at around 21:00 hrs. Definitely not Japanized. But all in all I like the company I'm presently with. The very first company I've worked so far that keeps me smiling till I'm home. That alone erases the bad scene this morning. Happy weekend to me and to everyone!teddybear heart wings bouquet
