A sad day

Early this day, a second medical doctor who's on the COVID frontline died. There aren't so many doctors even nurses in my country as some have chosen to work abroad. Just happen to read his last text message to a friend and there's this utter sadness. I've never heard of a doctor dying that young. I always see them in their white coat inside their disinfectant smelling clinic seemingly formidable against all germs. The more I worry what the next weeks would be for the below the poverty line group knowing that hundreds of thousands from the Mainland were allowed to get into the Philippines since December 2019. And some of them were from Wuhan. Hope that the military trucks carrying dead bodies in Italy won't ever happen in my beloved country, the Philippines. If 3 people(as per my readings) could infect and kill thousands, how worse could it be to my country? We need all the prayers we can, please guys.

Curiosity

A few days past while on my way to the train station, I saw a star shaped purplish and a triangular shaped pinkish, maybe less than 1cm object lying on the road. This morning I just saw the purplish one. I had the curiosity of a cat and wanted to poke at it just to verify if it's a child's vitamin or not. On the second thought, I've had enough of bad things just because of that curiosity. I've got a hunch that it was not. But maybe I'm wrong. Whatever, nothing would change. Life still goes on curious or not.

Mix emotions

Last Tuesday was another day for me to get my unemployment card stamped. Just like last month, the counter staff, after handing me back my card told me to go to the 2nd floor meaning I have to browse and look for a job among the listings. The lady did her job so well that at the end of more than an hour of going thru all the listings she was able to finalize an interview for Friday. Yesterday I went to the company and met 2 other female Japanese applicants. Guess what? I'm taken in although for the first month I'll be in the day shift before transferring to the night shift. The place is quite near my apt. I believe I can handle the job well since we were toured in the factory after the interview. But just sad that the timing wasn't right. I'm booked for Manila this week and has a return flight on Sept 2. At first I was asked when can I start working with them. I told them September but when the other 2 ladies answer they're willing to start on Aug 19, (Today until Aug 18 is Japan's obon holiday)I was pressured to say so, too. Really happy for I won't have to milch the Jgovt and sad for not being able to make my travel plan. I could have made my travel earlier!sigh

Disgusting!

Today I went to the Labor and Employment Office. Had my unemployment insurance card stamped and brushed on some job vacancies. As my kanji is limited, I just size up the vacancies accdg to place, the going rate, duration and nature of work. I chose one and shown it to the counter lady and she told me that the position is for the physically challenged only. I looked long and hard at the going rate which is ¥200,000. Why for all intent and care, a healthy individual's rate is ¥20,000 to ¥30,000 lesser? Disgusting isn't it? I wasn't allowed to be introduced to that position. Surely there must be someone who needs it more than I. Besides, I do enjoy being jobless at the moment!!grin

As usual

Yesterday afternoon I went shopping. When I step off the train on my way home, I noticed 3 young men holding full of grocery plastic bags on both hands standing at the right most lane as if waiting for all the off load passengers to pass out of the exit gate. I used to dilly dally in exiting and trying to figure if my hunch that if their kind would just pass out of the gate without paying . In the past there were Filipino-looking, Chinese-looking. The ones yesterday could be Vietnamese or Thailand. Twice in the past I did my share of giving these observation at the nearest station staff. I've just given up. And several meters outside the station, I heard the familiar sound. The sound that the exit gates emit when someone is dodging his fare. Then I felt like just like the song "Let it be".dunno

Sign of the times

When we ran out of milk last week, my son bought 2 milk boxes from a convenience store. I commented that they weren't tummy friendly and the following day my son bought 7 boxes of tummy friendly milk. The milk from the convenience store has a new packaging. I thought it was kind of cute and eco friendlier since it is very easy to cut, wash and dry for recycling purposes. The downside is, the new package is only 900 ml. While the old package is 1000 ml. Really sign of the times!sigh
