Not again!

On my way to work, I noticed since last month that several trees along that busy road is tied with plastic. The I remember the trees near my apartment had similar ties (but of different color) before they were cut down. I just don't think they are hazards because the neighboring city has more hazard prone trees yet they aren't cut down. Just hoping I'm wrong.uh oh

In the name of safety

Since January, I noticed 2 out of 7 trees in the Y-intersection of the road near my apt, had a green nylon string tied around its trunk. Wondering if it was a death sign. Then days and weeks passed by and I thought I was so wrong since they were all cropped at the top. I noticed that every winter or near the end of winter, trees are cropped down. Perhaps in preparation for summer. Then near the end of Feb, I noticed that the two trees were literally leveled down to the ground. And so I was right all the time. They were so big that a person can't possibly hug it alone. Not sure if it's for safety purposes since it's near electricity lines. Just a bit sad passing by it everyday seeing 2 dead trees.sigh

The Missing Mirror

It's been months since I used the public toilet beside that train station. It has 2 toilet cubicles with western style toilets and 2 wash basins with a set of rectangular mirrors. But if possible I try to evade using it since most of the time, there's an annoying amount of liter like cigarette butts and ash , candy wrappers and all sorts of wrappers. What a pity because it is relatively new and there's always an abundant supply of toilet paper. Things that I wish my home country has. So when I used it early this week, I was surprised that the 2 rectangular mirrors are gone. Not sure if someone stole them or that the amenity group maintaining those toilets got fed up with clogged inlet since most young women spend time in front of the mirror grooming themselves without disposing properly hair strands inside the wash basin. Somehow I miss those mirrors since I get to admire myself at least twice a day. Now, how could I do such act of humility without those mirrors? Another fault of covid!grin

Frugal times

On the aftermath of the Lehman shock in 2010, almost all supermarkets would require shoppers to bring their own shopping bags. Some yrs back, some supermarkets would provide plastic bags free of charge while there still a remaining few ones who wouldn't.So I thought the economy is perking up. In contrast, all convenience stores gave it for free. That was so until I shopped last Sunday. I just thought I was abreast with the news but I was wrong. Today when I bought a packed lunch and a couple of drinks, I was drawn to a notice near the cashier. ¥3 for every plastic shopping bag. My attention was all over covid, the anti terror bill in my home country and the recent murder of 4 military intelligence officer again in my home country. I am caught unaware of this eco and frugal law in my adopted country. I'm looking beyond what my eyes can't see that I forget the very struggle of the country where Iam now. From July 1, there'll be no more free plastic shopping bags. Frugal but eco times indeed!
