An odd of a life

There was a time when we were really dirt poor(We're still poor up to now but less the dirt.)and our pet dogs lived to a ripe old age of 16 human years. Now our pets get to have vaccinations not only for anti rabies but for antivirus and vitamins. Yet one of them seems to be dying. It had been given dextrose and an impending blood transfusion. And everybody seems to be teary-eyed having lived together for 10 yrs. When we were very poor. Not even one vaccination was given to both Kongkong and Jinggo. They ate our leftovers, and together we both hunted the house pests like the mice. They were good in hunting though they never ate them. Such was then. And they lived longer than our present pets. Just have to live the fact that life is temporal. How sad!

A Political Dilemma

I liken the DPJ, Japan's major political party to a father who promised his child a toy come salary time. But alas, the father was dismissed from his job and the promised wasn't realized. The DPJ promised a lot of well meaning changes but backed out and wasn't able to implement some. Understandably because of more pressing issue like the incident in Fukushima. I just can't understand why some sectors keep on whining because of some shelved plans. I just wish the opposition would rally behind whoever is in power now so as to avoid what the other more politically aware people refer to as revolving door politics. I have this love-hate feeling towards Japan for my almost 20 yrs of residence but I wish for its political stability and its regain of world's number 2 position. Oh, how I wish indeed!blues

Long ago...

Long ago in the 1800's, the parting words of an American professor to his student here in Japan was "Boys, be ambitious." A different version is used as an ad today. It says, "Japanese, be ambitious." As I don't have the proper stats but plain observation. It seems quite a number of Jyouths are opting to stop at senior high school and quite a number of foreign students are pursuing university studies via scholarships and student loans. Does it mean the typical Jmen aren't that ambitious. I remember a classmate of my son who said "I don't want to be somebody. All I want is to play." It seems a well-off parents and even not so well-off ones who are able to provide the conveniences and needs of their children plus a govt who is very kind in giving hand outs made them not to be an achiever. dunno

A weird day

Yesterday, Friday, was a very weird day at work. I was assigned to clean the dust bin machine twice my height. Inside were 20 cylindrical filters filled with glass fiber dust. I was told it would take 1 day to finish the job. Near noon the especially nice immediate Jman colleague produced 2 small alarm clocks and said I had to finish cleaning the cylinders before 2:30 and had to put them back into the machine by 3pm. I'm not a slow worker nor dilly dally in any kind of work I do way back when I was a school teacher in the Phils. It was weird but I raised no qualms. At around 4, (My work ends at 4:50.) another Jman colleague asked me to throw all the garbage and I wasn't even finish cleaning up all the debris. That would require me to weigh all the fiber wastes and put them outside. All in all the wastes added up to an amazing 106 kgs. Just felt got the ire of someone whose charm is used just to pick on me. To think that the machine I cleaned wasn't used by me. But then just like the motto of Nike, Just do it. And me just a mere 45-kg old lady. sigh

American Idol

Parallel to the blog about blondes. Out of several aspirants only 2 were left. One is an all American boy next door type, middle class, with not so much of a voice but croons and moves his body as if it's swaying with his music. The other is a petite half asian, half latina gal with a voice that would make you ask for more encore but with a simple-looking face. And you know who won. Don't get me wrong I like Philip too best of all for not being a braggart but then again the organizers must have some kind of standard for that choice.

At a loss

My now 21-yr old son was enjoined to an NPO-like group. One of their activities is a somewhat para military exercise for which he left early today. I don't mind him joining any group as long as he knows what he is into. Him trying to join the SDF and thus taking the tests and failing it. I can understand his attraction to the group because of this exercise aside from the fact that the lady in charge of the group kept prodding him to come to the point of calling him at times as late as 11pm and as early as 5 am. I can understand also why the lady is so interested in my son as she has no son of her own only daughters. And that group is mostly old ladies and old men. Those retirees need it to add spice to their boring life. But my son who is working for 7.5hrs Mon thru Fri aside from attending the night school. Can she not enjoin the yankis around her vicinity and spare my son?doh

Pink snow

I happened to walk in a park with all the petals of the cherry blossoms lay on the ground. It's like a pink snow. Pretended I'm walking along the aisle to meet my groom.grin What a heavenly feeling!

disrespect to the flag?

Just this afternoon, we passed by the city hall of a promising city in Aichi. It was raining since this morn and I was surprised to see the Jflag still hoisted. My country, the Phils, though it's a poor country will never do that. Wonder if my idea is obsolete. Or do they really have a different set of handling things over here.confused
