Olive Oil...

I use a fair amount of pure virgin olive oil in salads and for cooking. Usually purchased in small bottles, organic whenever there is a sale. A few weeks ago while shopping at the local farmers market I saw 3 liter cans of olive oil on sale. I would pass this at the normal price and the special sale caught my attention. But... who needs 3 liters?

I held on to one empty bottle waiting for this and last night I finished off another small bottle. It was time and I decided to open the 3 liter can.
Unable to find a funnel, I poured from the can into an 8 ounce plastic cup.

Glug, glug, glug... I had to squeeze the can and back off as it wasn't pouring smoothly. The spout was small and the oil too thick for air to come into the can while the oil came out. It reminded me of motor oil... heavy viscosity and if you pour too fast it splatters.

I pinched the end of the plastic cup into a V-shape and started pouring into one of the small bottles. Going as slow as possible it's was similar to coming out of the can. Too much oil flow and it clogged the opening and spilled over the top of the bottle!

What a stinking mess I had made. 20 paper towels later and filling the cup several times, I was able to refill both small bottles, wipe up and move on to other things.

Rethinking for the next episode. this could easily be enough oil to last me for 2 years...
The next time I do this I'll be better prepared with a funnel or turkey baster or something more efficient in transferring from a can to a small bottle.

Maybe those cans are designed for a plunger or tap.
I've done similar things and found that small funnels are worse than useless. I don't have a solution for you so keep us updated over the next two years. Consider doing a YouTube video if you come up with something good.
Chat it's a very good and nutritious choi. I buy them at Costco and very well worth it.

Try also the organic avocado oil.

Make a wide-mouthed funnel -
Cut the bottom off of, say, an empty plastic milk/vinegar or other such jug.

The spout has to be small enough to fit into the bottle. It can't be snug fitting either or the air cannot get out of the bottle. The outer threads on your thing-ma-jig funnel would add to the problem by forcing you to choose a very small host bottle for your thing-ma-jig funnel.
Try again?
Sesame oil is the oil i want to experiment with, it's a natural anti inflammatory and bloody expensive here..
When fabricating one's Funnel, make CERTAIN to select a jug with an opening SMALLER than that of the container into which one intends to pour one's oil.
Like, well ... A FUNNEL.

ALTERNATIVELY - One can make CERTAIN to select a container for one's oil the mouth of which is LARGER than that of the jug from which one's fabricated one's Funnel.

Kinda Obvious ... roll eyes

The op said that original small bottles were being used. So that is what I had to work on.
Chat please google how long does Olive Oil last before going rancid. Keep that large can in the fridge if you can. Typically EVOO should be used within 60 days. I learned a long time ago to quit buying large sizes and just buy the small ones. Oil can go rancid releasing free radicles (friend to cancer) with NO odor. Please google it and give some of that oil away.

Love the information Un, I buy big bulk because Costco doesn't sell them in small amounts but I do use a bunch. wave
When new, unopened then there's no problem. The date on mine is Best Before 07/23.
So the thing to do is re-bottle what's left with no air gap in the bottle, assuming it's the air which causes the problem. If the oil is from raw seed, ie not toasted then would it be a cancer risk?
What Fay Said ... thumbs up

For those reasons - I've moved away from buying Any oil in Any size.
