My Top 5 Annoying Habits!
I wouldn't describe myself as a particularly up-tight person. Quite the opposite, in fact.I generally nod politely and smile when faced with incredibly long, boring anecdotes. I just shrug when my football team loses and I don't swear (much) when my alarm clock goes off in the morning.
There are, however, a few notable exceptions. Things which really get me annoyed. Things which make me want to break things. Things which make the vein in my temple pulsate like an injured earthworm:
1. People who STAND (not walk) on the left hand side of an escalator. Seriously, I have considered murder.
2. People who drive really close behind me, especially when I'm going fast.
3. People who stand too close to me when we're having a conversation. PERSONAL SPACE, people!!
4. People who needlessly abbreviate words (sorry to any Australians, but you guys are really bad for this) by saying things like 'boyf' instead of boyfriend or 'obv' instead of obvious, 'blates' instead of blatantly.... I could go on.....
5. People who 'listen with their mouths'. You know what I mean? Those conversations you have when people aren't actually listening to you at all, they're just waiting for their chance to speak again. Grrrrrrrr.
That is all..... for today.....

I get that people at times can be rather annoying....
but I agree with Mikenewtothis....people will do as much as you allow them to get away with.....it is up to you to stand up for yourself and put an end...as far as possible...to those annoyances....
Mikenewtothis.... brilliant! I particularly like the last 5. That's what I WANT to do, but am far too polite to actually DO! Number 2, however, I have actually done. More than once.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, I'm more of an passive type. A typical Englishman who is quietly annoyed about everything but complains about nothing!
either standing on the left or right serves the purpose. i mean, either everybody should stand on the left or on the right side - though this hardly happens.
i'm still in the dark. so - you are implying there are rules for escalators in spain?...just like driving the cars ( keep left or right depending upon the country )? and are the rules official ( decided by the government ) or unofficial??
this is pretty interesting.
This unwritten law is really well enforced in the UK (people will actually tell you off for not doing it). Less so in Spain, but they're learning. Slowly!
I can't stand people who drive close behind me my solution is slam on the breaks just kidding, I did that a couple of times and got rear ended
I couldn't agree more about the acronymns. They really grind my gears! It all began with 'ASAP' and went downhill from there.
Anyway, TTYL ;)
1. In Australia people will stand on the left and be 'overtaken' on the right. We use an escalator the same way we drive.
2. I agree, it's dangerous...
3. Personal space--this one is interesting. If you live in a city you have a tendency to stand closer to an individual , than if you live in the country. (So the research indicates)
4. I haven't noticed I was abbreviating anything... yet. However, in future, I will pay it mind. I promise to try my very best and speak the Queen's English...
5. Listening is an art. Not everyone is artistic.
