Humble

Seriously, why describe yourself as humble? Does it have a slang meaning I'm missing (like wicked sick = WOW amazing)

because it is not a sexy word. To me it says hello, may I be your doormat?

Official definition -
1. having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's importance.
"I felt very humble when meeting her"
synonyms: meek, deferential, respectful, submissive, self-effacing, unassertive, unpresuming;
2. of low social, administrative, or political rank.
"she came from a humble, unprivileged background"
synonyms: low-ranking, low, lowly, lower-class, plebeian, proletarian, working-class, undistinguished, poor, mean, ignoble, of low birth, low-born, of low rank;

So when a guy describes himself as humble, whoa, haud me back. NOT.

I'm obviously missing something. If it now means full of fun, rampant libido, and a real guy's kinda guy, I have been blocking a lot of exciting men lately.

and add god fearing to the mix and

To paraphrase Kate Smith, Biff, who talked of being rich---I've been arrogant, and I've been humble, ----humble's better. V-Aa.
Vier, sure arrogant can get straight up noses but humble is way, WAY in the opposite direction? What does it mean to you, what do you want it to say about you?
The moment I see that word on a profile, I go...next..
Are you not keen on the Uriah Heep type, Biff?
It is usually people from the West Indies and Asia I see using it. I see women looking for humble men. They are welcome to them.
The only time I came across the word ‘humble’ is when I read those religious texts ( which is not very often grin ) and they’d have something like this, “I’ll be your humble servant....please....”
String, I LOVE that song, it is practically a Saffer anthem laugh my favourite verse is the egotistical one ...
Molly reunion

Art is more of a ‘mumble’ man mumbling
Mimi wave the latest message was 'I am humble, loyal and kind' but yup, I tend to tack on 'servant' as well. We have to stop reading those texts laugh

Most men are the mumble kind, aren't they? Then they can say 'I never said that, you heard me wrong' or 'I always tell you, you don't listen' and other useful porkies grin
I'm not exactly sure what being humble amounts to, Biff. It doesn't sound very attractive, in men or women.
No, there's no UD definition. I always link it with religious types. So that is a double whammy.

Mimi! ! Mumbles are better than humbles laugh
Humble =
Hair, under, my, bottom, lip, everyday.
No thankyou
yeah been humble I don't know exactly why some use this .id feel its just somebody saying their quite and a decent sort with respect for others .....and women here are mad anyway and they would find something wrong with everyone so id not worry about my humble opinion
Emmy I never heard that one rolling on the floor laughing
Vier, nice explanation!

And that of course was the other thing, so many who call themselves humble are anything but, and a humble opinion is actually a fairly stubborn one.

Now you've thrown me with agape, which in divinity classes at school had a completely different meaning. I like the definition you give

I still think humble is a very misleading word to use, although I'm getting more from it now.

handshake
It looks like string has come up with the answer, Biff. If someone tells you they are humble it means that they want you to forgive their sin and heal their land. Probably best to avoid them.
Sorry ladies and benders, I´ll be taking my humble sausage elsewhere, I bid y´all goodnight
String - yup, like Molly and Mimi said, it has strong religious connotations
Harb, they'd be looking for someone arrogant enough to pull that off. Think you're right. Duck.
BN, if your sausage is humble, I want nothing to do with it snooty

I like a proud sausage, standing tall.
maybe the word humble is used to lower the level of expectations, so not to disappoint
under promise and over deliver? maybe?
haha Molly snap
I run a mile from a humble man I prefer a bit of fire in them.
Palm that's exactly what I'm trying to work out - what people think when they see it, and therefore what is meant when it is offered as a description

So that's what your reaction would be? That's a long way off some of the others conversing
i usually don't think like the others... uh oh
Did nobody ever tell you it´s the quiet ones to watch out for? Humble sausage v Hard sausage, I know who my money´s on!boxing
i would like a spring lamb
The humble sausage might have our money
But the hard sausage has me grin
Emmy, completely agree. A man can be as quiet as he likes but that's another whole kettle of fish. Humble, meek, unassertive, these are not kick-starter qualities uh oh
Suddenly turned into a food blog, I'm getting peckish. I love lamb. grin

B, please describe a humble sausage.

popcorn
Oh, and for some strange reason, humble also makes me think of poor too uh oh
Molly, not that strange, that is its other meaning - low-ranking, low, lowly, lower-class, plebeian, proletarian, working-class, undistinguished, poor, mean, ignoble, of low birth, low-born, of low rank;

in English, anyway. But not, I think, in American.
Makes me think religious
i never said humble was a turn-on. lol
Emmy - which is odd because 'religious' is quite often 'stubborn and determined to stand my ground' and yet it does me think that too.
Palm it must work on some women or there wouldn't be more and more guys using it confused
I shall take my humble leave of you laugh and return anon

As you were
