Fauci... listen up!

Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci said people who recover from the coronavirus will likely be immune should a second wave of infection spread in the early fall. The statement was based on a belief the virus has not mutated much and that people who develop immunity will likely maintain it at least for the next few months.

That was last week. News is out this week that some coronavirus patients who recovered have tested positive again. One story I read called it reactivation and not reinfection saying remnants of the virus could still be in the patients system, but they are not infectious or a host to infect others.

This something to consider especially for workers who are returning to their jobs weeks later and infecting others.

DIY Ventilators...

I've done a few blogs about medical ventilators and my research continues. Trying to find a listed price for one is like getting a quote on a used car. They want your information before making an offer. Lots of models and lots of options. I did see a wide range for new premium machines listed in the range of $25,000 to $50,000.

The purpose of a ventilator is to pump oxygen/air into the patients lungs where they are unable to do it on their own. Typically, in the case of pneumonia, the air sacs (alvelous) are swollen, filled with fluids and unable to remove carbon dioxide and exchange with oxygen.

Bring on the tube... Intubation is a standard procedure where a tube is place down the throat into the esophagus. The patient is sedated under general anesthesia and given a muscle relaxer.

All procedures have risks. hear that? ALL PROCEDURES HAVE RISKS!!
When air is forced into fluid filled lungs there is damage to the air sacs and soft tissues of the lungs. In the case of respiratory virus that plays a part of the damage, more damage occurs from pneumonia and additional damage is caused by the ventilator.

Part of the ventilators function is to monitor pressure, oxygen & carbon dioxide exchange, breathing rate, temperature. I cringed hearing that GM is slated to make ventilators. I cringed again when Tesla got into ventilator prototyping using the control computer from the model 3. They are going against companies who have been making and refining dedicated medical products for many years. Ventilator start-up ventures could have disastrous results.

The story I read today takes the prize.
Mississippi doctor uses garden hose, lamp timer and electronic valve to create makeshift ventilators

I won't go into too much detail, but a pediatric anesthesiologist Dr. Charles Robertson from the University of Mississippi Medical Center has made a ventilator with supplies from a hardware store.
Less than $100 using a garden hose, lamp timer and electronic valve, he can build a ventilator in 20 to 30 minutes!

According to the doctor "The brain behind the thing is actually a lamp timer"

Most of the reviews have been positive, but I can't get around that no one mentioned (or did they forget) anything used in a hospital needs to have FDA approval.

Me thinks the doctor's been watching too many episodes of MacGyver.

I actually found a Chinese based medical equipment company who produce ICU ventilators at a rate of 300 per year and can get one out to you in 10 days after payment.

This must be similar to the $25,000 model.

For the record... DIY means Do It Yourself

Another vaccine enters human trials. This one backed by Bill & Melissa Gates

This one is based on a DNA plasmid.

The first one happened in mid-March in Seattle, which more likely was protein based.

From The Hill;

And hopefully there will be another one available sooner.
For instance, the Canadian one was in the lead, but I haven't seen anything on this recently.
Perhaps results are not ready yet.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse

A person in a position of authority who shall remain nameless, has stated that with warmer weather this Covid 19 virus will die out and we can all gather for celebrating the Easter holiday. Unfortunately, this ill conceived idea/plan, overlooked another thing which arrives with warmer weather, namely,
MOSQUITOES.
"Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, chikungunya, yellow fever, filariasis, tularemia, dirofilariasis, Japanese encephalitis, Saint Louis encephalitis, Western equine encephalitis, Eastern equine encephalitis, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, Ross River fever, Barmah Forest fever."

Is there any reason to believe Covid 19 wont hitch a ride on a Mosquito?

The Virus....what I heard

A friend of mine came back from his chiropractor and he informed my friend that this virus is interesting. My friend told me, he was not sure using the word mutate was correct...but he explained it this way to me. He said, according to his doctor, if he got the virus and gave it to me, I would have a different virus than him.

I have just heard tonight on tv....not only can you get the virus more than once, but the second time around it is more vicious than the first time. That would make sense if my friend was told correct by his chiropractor.

It sounds like this virus is like a moving target...if everything I had been told is correct.

It sounds like a vaccine is essential with this....otherwise, is there a way of stopping it without everyone being effected by it?

dunno

...sounds serious....and something to be treated as such...

be safe all

Hopefully I have heard wrong...and drew the wrong conclusions.

Subtlety in science.....

... In volume one of the memoirs, your intrepid Institute Director, explores classification of behavioral syndromes. Specifically, how, while the accepted features of childhood s*xual trauma induced chronic adult PTSD have heuristic value, as most therapists well know, they just scratch the surface of important human challenges, and of therapeutic recoveries from such. In every day life, subtle issues of perception, judgement, interpersonal messaging, and much more, are at least as important as nightmares/re-experiencing/avoidance, and the lot. In doing so, he began thinking of things political. Gotta walk Bravo, later, alligators.

Suffering, in the world,

vs. MY unique suffering. The first is a Buddhist view, the latter, that of most addicts. Crippling self pity, powerful enough to support any level of denial, and to justify all selfish and hurtful behaviors. Recently, an Asian clinical friend shared this concept with me. Hit me like a brick. We worked some with addicts of many so called types, who now boastfully all carry the badge of having a 'Disease", bestowed by leftie clinicians, who really should know better, for selfish reasons. Selfish? Well try to challenge it, and quickly it seems based more on the need to signal, and to bestow, virtue, than for scientific ideas. Addictions as well, to the smug feelings of superiority, after hatefully and angrily calling someone---well, we all know the pejoratives. Enabling, and codependent in the extreme. .Sure, there are differences in receptor biology, perhaps making paths to addiction just a bit more sweet, for some. But once in the deep pit, what to do?
Well, in some Eastern drug and alcohol addiction treatment practice (? overeating, sex as well?), the initial emphasis is less on first admitting having the problem, and being powerless over it, and more on the generalized existence of suffering in God's good world. Can snap that sense of somehow being special, right out from under the feet of any self worshiping addict. Not a bad way then to begin the real work. And the new real life.

What is with guys who are 60 plus and older, they have kids but not sure if they want more kids.

Seriously people, there is an end for women to produce trophy babies for some old fart! Its called "geriatric pregnancy". If you start a pregnancy for a woman at 60 please do the math. I find it a bit ridiculous.
The question on the profile is Want kids? most of answers are" not sure", really at 60 years you don't know if you want kids? what planet have you guys been visiting? Just because technology allows people to play God, is this a mentally health issue? ego? .
