SUMMER'S NEARLY HERE, Don't Sunburn To A Crisp, or

A Fish Tale Of Acquired Sunburn Immunity.

blushing scold

The subject of sunburn came up on gg's "Ireland's Not A Garbage Can" blog.
(It's not as off topic as it sounds. Ireland has a lot of Gingers. Gingers burn up in the sun. It was a logical progression. Kinda.)

But I digress.
I mentioned that for several Summers I've noticed I'd become immune to sunburn.
I didn't consider it a problem (what Ginger would?!)
But I found it most curious confused

Even when visiting Florida from a Northern state...
Dead fish belly WHITE...
To days spent at a pool under a straight overhead sun...
NO sunscreen...
AND
NO SUNBURN! - Hardly a tan!
(Some local Pentecostals concluded I must be very godly; it was a manifestation of providential protection that I didn't blister hideously & slough off skin like a moulting snake. I am NOT making that up! scold )

Anyway.
Gg asked if I eat much fish of the Omega 3 sort.
I most certainly do!
Sardines smitten
But I'd never heard that oily fish would turn a Ginger unsunburnable.

Imp chimed in & added that eating strawberries also prevents sunburn.

I searched it...

typing

and found this...

wow....love
You know all those damnable health studies that tell you you have to eat crap like seaweed or sawdust or you'll die?

NOT THIS ONE, Y'ALL! grin
Fish!
Tomatoes!
Watermelon!
Berries!
Butter!
Whipped Cream!
Chocolate!!!!

happy place

Anyway.
Yes. I realize one unfried Ginger - even a dead fish belly white Ginger in Florida that convinces Pentecostals a miracle has occurred - isn't exactly a clinical study.
But as noted in the article, if something works - you don't NEED studies!
laugh

Thought I'd pass it along; take it for what it's worth.

(This blog is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure any condition or ailment.)

There.
Y'all got the standard lawyer approved legal disclaimer.
If any of y'all blister hideously, slough off skin like a moulting snake, get cancer and/or die horribly, neither you nor your survivors can sue my @ss off.

Bonebridge !

No, this is not about the bridge connecting two people during sex. laugh

Instead, it is about a new procedure to help those with hearing challenges.
The first person in New Jersey recently got one with instant success.
It will likely help a lot of people in years to come.

I remember a gentleman, who used to be on here, and another site, who had deafness.
I hope someone will forward this information to him and to others who may be helped
with their hearing challenges.

We are getting older, with many of the changes.......

Just saw my neurologist and ophthalmologist. Tiny peripheral neuropathy on a right foot toe area and slight balance issues, for former, (demon alcohol) ---and age consistent refraction problems with beginning cataracts, for latter. Neither restricted my driving or other activities. If things don't progress much, I can't complaim. And other than daily multivites, baby aspirin and fish/flax oil---no medications. Allah 'u Akbar, no?

Tooth extraction

Lots of people have fear of dentist
So where does this come from
Many have bad experiences from early days
Nowadays seems that dentists are a lot better
But if you have phobia it's difficult to conquer your fear
A few tips I can give are as follows
Tell your dentist you are nervous
Set up a plan with dentist during procedure ie
Hand signal
Bring I phone and play music when procedure is been done
Try stay calm deep breaths
Remember the dentist is not trying to cause pain
But is trying to sort out your teeth so
It will stop pain occurring
When it's over
Treat yourself to something nice
The dentists today have better equipment and
Better facilities so try relax if possible
Hope this helps anyone going to dentist soon

My yearly physical examination...

Yeah, it was time. Different doctor who unlike the others, this one had me in the exam room for nearly a hour. Blood pressure is under control. We discussed my medical history and my parents medical history as well.
Currently, I'm taking two low doses of different medicines for hypertension that achieve better results than one medicine in a higher dose. While my hypertension is okay, the side-effect of one medicine is swelling of the legs. Not good for someone who is sitting at a desk 10-12 hours a day.
As predicted, out came the iPhone to see if there was another medicine in the same family that has less side effects. She sent a request to the pharmacy for a new one to try out.
My EKG was normal and some blood work will be scheduled within 3 weeks as I'm going back in 4 weeks for a followup.
The iPhone came out again to do heart attack risk calculations for my cholesterol that was well under the limit, weight, age and lifestyle. The number was 15% and though she didn't consider me at risk, there's a suggestion to start on a program of statins. I declined because medicines that make me sick outweigh their benefits. I wrote down the name of something to research that could work without so many side effects.

We shall see...

Hal Atosis...

Some people don't realize they have bad breath.
I try to keep a good distance from one of the salesmen I deal with as his breath is strong enough to wilt flowers. Nice guy, but when he gets close I have lean back as he talks. The same thing for a general contractor who gives us a few kitchen orders every year. It's a husband and wife team where he builds the houses and she does the design. In meetings, I have to hold my breath when he speaks and wait a few seconds for the air to clear. What surprises me is his wife doesn't appeared to be bothered by the smell.
I'm in sales... it's important to communicate with people 'up close' and I keep a small bottle of mouthwash in my office. Before meetings, I head to the rest room to gargle so no one can call me Hal.

Service Animals 2

I'm unable to rely on my sense of smell which Is unfortunate since I'm simultaneously suffering from a gastrointestinal disorder. The severity of said disorder can best be detected via the quality of the gas I'm producing which I can't distinguish due to the olfactory malfunction.

My doctor has suggested a trained service dog as a companion to alert me to a potentially serious problem. Based on the information I've been given, it would work something like this:

Popcorn fart; one bark.
Corned beef and cabbage fart; two barks.
Bean and lentil casserole fart; three barks.
Noxious rotten egg and vinegar fart; roll over and play dead.

What is holding you Back in Life?

Lots of people will tell you things that will put the blame squarely on someone else's shoulders. Accept the blame yourself, and admit it to yourself, and take yourself in hand.

Only You can make you into your ideal. Believe in yourself and the sky is the limit. Afterwards everything will fall into place like a puzzle!!!
