Well, the time has come once again....

For the last several years since my children have grown into adults, I have been traveling about, exploring this beautiful country. I go where there's opportunities and in some cases, where I'm needed....a bit of a nomad, I suppose. I came back to Connecticut to help my daughter with some things and now that my help has been rendered, the grandkids are now all in school, it's time to move on again, so as not to hinder her progress in adult life. Though, I'm not sure if I plan to leave Connecticut before or after winter, I also have to decide where my next destination will be dunno ....and where I can serve a purpose to help others. And different environments where to begin my art sales again. I have already lived in Florida, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Connecticut. California looks promising, but maybe some input from others here can give me some insight as to a good destination conversing wave

Flight plan...

Tropical storm Nicole affected my vacation plans. I moved my departure a day earlier expecting to be on my way prior to the storm, but all flights were cancelled a day before departure.
Nicole is expected to be a category 1 hurricane, winds around 70mph tonight as it crosses Bahamas it will drop back to a tropical storm below 70 when it hits the east coast of Florida in the early morning.

Between cancellations and rebooking, I've lost a few hours on the phone with customer service and I have to wait 72 hours for a credit to apply for the return flight next week. It's a good thing I purchased travel insurance so my original tickets aren't lost.
It is what it is...

My Malaysian holiday coming to an end in less than 24 hours….

Just like that….6 weeks gone!

Bittersweet. Can’t wait to see cheeky Art again applause and my son applause but it’s breaking my heart to leave my daughter behind….sad flower

I’ve been traveling to few places on my own, with my daughter and my best friends. Very very tiring for someone with severe rheumatoid arthritis ( nope, the pain did not lessen while I’m here ) but I would do it again in a heartbeat…

I stayed at my ex-husband’s relatives’ house and they cooked some of the most delicious southern Indian food for me throughout my stay!

It’s the 8th Feb, 4.30am and in less than 8 hours, I’d be meeting my daughter’s best friend for the first time. Dora and her bf always look out for my daughter and I really appreciate that. heart beating

After the meeting, I won’t go anywhere else coz I’d need to pack, pack, and pack! Too many stuff I’ve bought and given by people and a bulk of them have to go…sadly…

Yesterday afternoon, my daughter picked me up from the bus terminal after I arrived from my hometown, Teluk Intan where I spent some time with my long-time girlfriends.

We went to a cafe right away and I had the best rosé flavored latte smitten

Mingle Cafe in the heart of Kuala Lumpur Chinatown. I’ve always loved pre-war shophouses coz when I was a wee gal, I would visit my maternal grand uncle at his law practice conducted from one of the oldest pre-war buildings in Teluk Intan and they are very similar all over Malaysia and Singapore.

The Chinese character ‘Fuk’ ( in Cantonese ) means ‘Luck’ and often times you’d see them hung upside down. There’s a meaning to it…

We went to have coffee and cakes instead in one of the many cafes in this building; apartments that have been converted to fanciful cafes.

My daughter chose to have banh mi and it was clearly a better choice. I took a bite and ordered one to go! grin

My mom enjoyed banh mi and the baguettes a lot when she visited Vietnam many years ago so I decided to get her some freshly baked baguettes. I just realized how obscene this picture turned out to be….blushing

A mighty cold ride

A couple of years ago I decided to take a nice long road trip on the trike. Got everything planned and set. It got close to the day of departure I'd been watching the weather patterns, and forecasts, the day I left it was hot, I mean sweating riding down the highway hot. Rode 4and a half hours to a friends place for the weekend. Sunday morning I got up and ready to head out. Had to put on 4 layers of clothes. So much for the forecasts. Managed to ride from Grand Island Nebraska to Rawlins Wyoming 529 miles. Stopped for the night, the next morning was just as cold, but I headed West again. Made it to Heyburn Idaho 466 miles. Next morning, yep I headed West again, got all the way to Pendleton Oregon 347 miles. One more night in hotels, then on to Banks Oregon 234 miles. Stayed with my Sister for about a week, then headed back. Only once while I was at her house did I ride in a car, I took the trike everywhere else. Of course having a niece that wanted to ride might have had something to do with that.
Well the time came to head home. The first part of the first day wasn't too bad, but 20 miles from Pendleton I ran into rain. I was only 20 miles from my night stop I could keep going. About 10 miles out I got hit by the hail, definitely not a fun thing to do, but I made it to the hotel. Left the next morning in 40 degree weather. Ran into snow flurries in Idaho, but still made Heyburn. When I left there it was 32 degrees. Made Rawlins, after fighting severe cross winds. Took a slight detour to Denver to see more family, spent the night there, and then on to Grand Island again. Another weekend there, and headed home, still colder than all get out. Got home half froze, (or so it felt)
And naturally the very next day it got hot again. It was still a hell of a trip and I do it again in a heartbeat.

time for a road trip ,,,,

Well after a long wait due to covid ,i have decided to prep the car in readiness for a road trip to the UK,
besides driving essentials and just in case tool kit , my kettle and English teabags will be safely stowed away ,don,t get me wrong Autobahn coffee is ok but the rest areas with the most scenic views are not near service stations ,
and as times have now changed ,then the trip is not as straight forward as it used to be ,
as now i have to cross 5 closed borders and 3 open borders ,the closed borders can be a ten minute crossing or a 3 hour crossing depending on traffic and custom searches ,
driving a European registered car helps a lot ,until they see my passport and then it is usually the same question is this your car ,,so at every border my car docs and green card insurance are always at the ready , thankfully i do not have to go via turkey , as that can be a nightmare of a border to cross ,especially having been refused entry once before, not myself refused entry just my car grrrrr,,and being told to come back in six weeks and we will let the car in ,,and then they put a special stamp on your passport for the car ,which must leave the country when you do , or the fine is around 10,000 euros ,,so a break down is not a option ,,
the very last leg of the journey is by ferry across the English channel which i normally do , but what with brexit then dover customs will surely pull my car in for a search ,,i do not know why but solo drivers always seemed to be pulled in,
so i may take the EURO tunnel train it is twice the cost of the ferry and a lot quicker and the customs check is done in france to avoid delays with unloading the trains ,and i will not make the same mistake as i did on my last visit , which was forgetting to fill the car up in Luxemburg , as the fuel there is the cheapest in Europe ,, and the UK the dearest grrrrr but a full tank will see me through for what i need to do on my stay ,,,,,

Mini getaway

We were supposed to go for a 5-day trip to Breckenridge, CO but after looking at its weather forecast, we decided to go to Amana Colonies, IA instead. I was bummed coz I was really looking forward to Breckenridge and all the activities that Art and I have had planned sigh It was forecasted it’d be raining the whole time we’d be there and Art didn’t want our trip to be San Antonio 2.0 laugh
We were in San Antonio back in February and it rained during most part of our trip and it was freezing cold blues We booked our flights and hotel 4-5 months earlier thinking SA would have its best weather at that time but Mother Nature obviously had other plans for us. doh

Anyway, Amana Colonies was alright but I gotta say, not a big fan of German food…The whole time I was there having my meals, it made me miss my old country even more…blues crying

First stop- furniture shop. The only thing I was interested in was their $8,500 sofa. love I’d have to sell my son for that laugh

Next stop- Quilt shop. While Art and I were browsing the shop, pretending to be interested, my son just sat on a chair near the exit, didn’t even bother to show the least interest. very mad

Making plans for the USA! (part 3)

I'm slowly getting things in order for my trip to the USA next year. I've sorted accommodations, which gives me the kind of calm that I need when there's so much to plan.

I asked my friend straight up, if I could stay at her place for the week. She lives in a 1 bedroom apartment, but if I can handle the couch, I am more than welcome to stay at her place. Immediately, my answer was "I'll take the couch for the week!". That frees up more money to spend on things, which is extremely positive.

So now, I just need to save up for the spending money, and I'll be ready! 272 days 10 hours and 14 minutes until the plane takes off! Super excited!
