tomcatwarne: So do I, noone condones the looting and destruction, but these things don't just happen out of thin air. There has been an undercurrent of unrest in these areas for a long time, which doesn't seem to have been dealt with. I hope order is restored soon without bloodshed, and then steps must be taken to diffuse the problems.

The unrest is simply an 'attitude' problem that kids have. These kids simply are not brought up properly. Those that are brought up properly know right from wrong and would not dream of doing this wanton destruction. It is nothing to do with poverty. I have been poor and brought up my kids on my own but they would never have done anything like this. These kids are possibly from a one parent family or a family that does not care, or whatever. I live right in the thick of this community and I know the problems. There is no pride in their attitude and to them being in gangs and self-gratification is all they want. These are the minority. Not all the youth are like this but the ones that are - it is nothing to do with the government - these kids simply are out of control.

This started when a young thug carried a gun in LOndon contray to the laws of England. He was Shot tough tiities should not been ccarrying a gun. other people hijacked a misplaced vigil in Tottenham and started a riot , this ahd nothing to do with the memory of a so called Gangsta this was mindless premeditated fires started as a literal smoke screen so thsse Gangstas can steel loot rob and anything else which they can get away with. others saw this on Sky news and the BBc and decided to get on the looting spree with riots organised by twitter and Facebook, if u dont believe me google it on the twitter feed. Thses are mindless thugs and should have ther skulls cracked . This is recreation looting. this is about you have it i want it and we will get awya with it.

the police have to get a grip and this lousy government have to give them the resource to deliver peace on the streets . even using rubber bullets water cannon or deploying the army on our capitals streets then we see the gangstas run when up against soldiers hero veterans back from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Whatever terms you couch it in (by the way I did not mention poverty) it is still a big enough problem to cause widespread rioting. It is a problem which must be addressed or the same thing will happen again, I am not disputing what you say, just that it is a problem which must be taken on by the government and not just left to fester, as has happened in the past. Saying it is just a bunch of kids does not alleviate the problem.

It's a sorry state of affairs, whoever is to blame, though as a parent I have to agree with Wow that the parental control is no longer there for some of these youths,or in some cases the teenagers are in control at home too.

I guess a new T.V, IPad or whatever they have got their grubby little hands on will be accepted by some parents.doh

The harsh reality is that next year London will be on display to the whole of the world when it hosts the Olympic Games,it didn't need this disgusting display at this time ,when so much has been done to promote our country.

Shame on some people.very mad

This woman speaks sense. Those that think that the looting is to do with grips against the government are wrong. It is simply thuggery. Yes we have had it before in the soccer matches. We also have it in Mediterranean holiday resorts with the UK youth on vacation there in some places. Britain has lost its greatness and its youth have lost the way. Parents have to take a lot of blame because I know for certain the schools and colleges are taking steps to restore order in schools and are doing better at that than they used to. You also have to be aware that kids follow their peers so with all this lack of control and kids having more respect for their peers than for their parents things are bad. What's the saying - something like give me a child till he is five and I will show you the man - or something in that vein.

Noone is condoning looting and destruction, but it is glaringly obvious, as was pointed out by another poster, that the vast majority of rioters are from ethnic minorities. This is a problem which must be addressed and not swept under the carpet as it has been previously.

Let´s face it,whether we like it or not, people are different...

To hell with PC,to hell with "understanding"...

Please sniff around for reasons,-but why,-you,the PC idiots,-you know this just as well as everyone else....this goes much deeper, much, much deeper....

If there ever was a time to be feisty, it's now. We can't be a bunch of cowards for yet another fifty years - we'd have no country left!

If you look at the TV coverage it was ethnic minorities who were in the majority, I am not really disagreeing with you.

Noone on this thread has condones looting and willful destruction, I think people are more concerned about the underlying reason, rather than the criminal acts of a few.
