lindsyjones: What is to like and not?

In a world so racially charged and so torn on religious differences, as in the beginning of time, perhaps a woman's touch is the answer?

Note: I am specifically directing this topic to my country.

But your opinions are all appreciated, in opposition or not.

A woman leader? Is you for real?

Lindsy.

I don't understand why gender is so important as far as leadership is concerned.. Surely a leader should be trustworthy and respected regardless of gender.

For the same reason as you mentioned, yes of course.

Isabella I of Castille (Madrigal de las Altas Torres, 22 April 1451-Medina del Campo, 26 November 1504) was Queen of Castille. She was married to Ferdinand II of Aragon. Their marriage became the basis for the political unification of Spain under their grandson, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. After a struggle to claim her right to the throne, she reorganized the governmental system, brought the crime rate to the lowest it had been in years, and unburdened the kingdom of the enormous debt her brother had left behind. Her reforms and those she made with her husband had an influence that extended well beyond the borders of their united kingdoms. Isabella and Ferdinand are known for completing the Reconquista, ordering conversion or exile of their Muslim and Jewish subjects in the Spanish Inquisition, and for supporting and financing Christopher Columbus's 1492 voyage that led to the opening of the New World. In most instances, she was more influential than her husband. Isabella was granted the title Servant of God by the Catholic Church in 1974.

Am I for Real?

Don Pepperoni, it is very obvious you have a very low regard to women. As you opened your superior mouth on this question...did you forget where you are? Or do I have to refresh your memory if you have any sense of historical value accorded to your country at all?

Had it not been for the Queen Of Spain, the famous Isabella, the world would have never started COLONIZATION...or for a better definition, it was through her advance way of thinking that started the discovery of the new world.

She has done so much that none of the wimpy Kings have done during her time. And you are asking me if I were for real?

Need I say more?

Now if you have anything against women as leader, I can't imagine how limited is your knowledge on the accomplishments of these aforementioned leaders or you din't even bother reading the first part of the thread?

Are you from Spain? And have you any loyalty to the leadership your country has done in the hands of a woman?

Or do I need to educate and emphasize more for your enlightenment?

VivianLee: She broke the power of the unions when Britain was down to a 3 day working week and becoming the laughing stock of the world. People of ability and brains were leaving the country in droves - the braindrain. She reversed that. She turned Britain back into a world power. She brokered a deal with Europe which has saved us hundreds of millions of pounds over the years since, yet kept us in the EU, which created thousands of jobs and created wealth for the country in general. She was eventually demonised by the Opposition and they continue to whip up rage and hatred against her for her success, but outside of Britain, she was considered the best thing that ever happened to the UK. I don't think she was personally a very nice person and her omelettes broke a lot of eggs, but she took over a country in meltdown and turned it around. Individuals, especially union leaders, hated her, but history will remember her long, long after the dangerously ineffectual puppets who were in power before and after her. She served three terms, so she had a LOT of support, since the working classes outnumber the privileged classes significantly. The devastation she caused was usually (granted, not always) among people who couldn't see past their own egos to realize they were destroying the country.

Not taking a swipe at you, Wallops, just putting across another point of view.

Vivian I didn't even see this until now. I knew there are always those that will support and or be against any undertaking of a leader, woman or not.

lindsyjones: Of course she is not a flake. Considering all her extensive exposure on the mechanics of politics, she wouldn't even aspire for the job if she doesn't have what it takes to run a country that is so diversified and so scarred with terrorism, obliterated by religious diversity and challenged by the worse immigration problems at the moment.

Thanks for your opinion.

Let us all unite and put a woman up there and go from there.

Like I said in the beginning, what do we have to lose, we are already in the worst possible situation we never expected to be at...

Like you, I too, am disappointed with Obama.

thumbs up

I am always amazed that The United States seems to be so archaic in this. What is so astonishing about having a woman president here? In countries where women are clearly not seen as "equal", there have been women leaders. Golda Meir, Indira Ghandi, to name a couple. Why do we have such a block about this? I, for one, believe it would be an excellent idea. Even better, a presidential team made up of a man and a woman, and several other men and women. JMO

SandraYelitzza2: Agree, Sarah Palin is not the best candidate for anything... if I could... I would wire this woman's brain...

Well, yes she might not quite possess the brain that requires competence but I'd still vote for her if she's the only candidate left to run against a man.

In my opinion.....

Women leaders in the United States have a difficult time

especially in the Republican Party - as it is predominately white men who are currently in power. doh
