I think not for what I consider valid reasons. One, this is something that should be dealt with in the home long before College age. And two, if men who you want to take this course are so toxic, why would you want them on the campus to begin with? And three, just tell men to stop eating meat and everyone should get along better today.
I’d like to hear other opinions here on this subject.
i have mixed feelings about it. i did read Brown University's course description.
on the one hand, while i think the course provides a valuable service, i think it sounds more like a support group, or group therapy with education, which may be better served at a counseling centre, or night school. i believe their intentions are honorable in that they seek to help others.
but on the other hand, i agree there's a problem with how folks are socialized. both men and women. and although it is changing, there haven't been a lot of places or opportunities for men to self reflect and share. and if the only way 'he' will get some help to define and develop his own sense of masculine well being is by attending a university course, then so be it. most campuses have had 'womens' studies' departments for decades. perhaps if they called the course, 'mens' studies, it would be better received.

....... ....dunno........
Oh, I like changing the course title change to ‘mens’ studies
John Gray's book, "Beyond Mars and Venus" should be reading for everyone.
In it he clearly shows the hormone imbalance that leads to aggression in males. Simply put (please read the book), men's testosterone is too low and his estrogens are too high. This can be from stress and the release of Cortisol that causes testosterone to be converted to estrogen. Hence, the emotional out burst.
Anger is not strength in masculinity. It is a man being too feminine. Suppression is not the answer. Rather, he needs to find "cave time" to lower his stress and increase his testosterone. The environmental exposure to xeno-estrogens is having a detrimental effect on men and boys too. Soaps, foods, chemical exposure...
And, while it may seem all like a "man" problem, it is also the responsibility of women to know how to not incite, or push his buttons. She needs to know how to control her own masculine tendencies (that are seen as a threat in the world of instincts), and know how to help him lower his stress so that he can think more objectively.
I think there should be a lesson in the “game”, a matter of fact look the player.
I look at people like Ben Shapiro and see that online there is a right-wing male script being developed, a lesson in how to basically lower the others person self esteem so that they agree with you the whole time and how to cheat your way to winning a debate by going for the man instead of the ball. I believe there should be some sort of alternative to this but from people not Institutions.
Unlearning? Toxic masculinity? Being aggressive has nothing to do with masculinity... Bad upbringing, lack of role model, anger, low self esteem and loneliness... I just can't see any "toxic" man voluntarily going to take part in the course... We are not all born good, not all kids are angels, I don't buy this...there's is a part of the human character programmed before we are even born...disbalance or some kind of genetic fault...whatever you want to call it... And don't forget the toxic women...there are plenty of those too... Are there any courses for them?!

What is toxic masculinity? There should be help and even training to help anyone improve, but attaching it to gender may not be the best thing. When I went to school those courses were called Psychology and Communications studies. "Men's Studies" was called History. I think college should stick to these basics.
Half the reason for the army is to gobble up scumbags and keep them out of trouble. The military is one way we unlearn toxic masculinity, to take what's bad out of men you must first have a masculine authority men respect. And that ain't teachers.

The thing any military does second best is intimidated and humiliate recruits to bring everyone in line to be a better team. The thing any good military does best is teach people to protect themselves and their buddies and tipo kill the enemy efficiently.
And here we come to square one...again... Family, father, mother...friends...the ones that influence the most and deepest... But having the right examples doesn't mean you will follow...it doesn't come on request and doesn't happen to all... Understanding what is right is one thing, but doing right is something else... Hanging on someone else's rightness is as bad as hanging on someone else's wrongness ...

I don't know whether "Unlearning Toxic Masculinity" is an actual course, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if it is.
Crazy world we live in.
Having said that, I wouldn't have thought a course was necessary? Governments, mainstream media, the entertainment industry etc etc are all doing a good job of neutering men.
