Some do... and some don't... every person... and romance is unique, no two people will have the same outcome...

I don't think I would be attracted to someone who is so totally opposite me, but then you never know.

I like funny men, non-smokers, and in my age bracket. It doesn't work for me if they aren't. Found that out the hard way...moping AGAIN!!!!

GingerGee: So are you saying that educated people don't have experience of how to be a good partner? It would be interesting here, to know what kind of experience you are talking about, and how one gets this kind of experience, that apparently less-well schooled people seem to have naturally....
Education and intelligence do not immediately make you a person of great character...
There are plenty arrogant and horrible people of high intelligence...
Sometimes when it comes to matters of the heart the cold, intelligent approach isn't what works well, dissecting your emotions instead of doing what your heart tells you... Analising everything in your relationship to the point where it looks like a lab experiment ...
It happens, more often than not...

smiley963: So where did people get the idea from that differences attract, and then found out it didn't, but perpetuated the story, into eternity?
Because of the instances where polar opposites really did work...everyone loves the "love conquers all"...stories....

What is seldom applauded is the hard work that goes into making any relationship work be they similar personalities or not.
People much rather hear about how the bad guy fell for the virgin and mended his ways.
Or the biker chick marrying the jock!!

I often hear, when they are totally different, that this couple completes/compliments, each other! You need common ground, even if it's just a little bit, else it's just physical attraction, and it will die very soon after! People get old, and they start developing loose skin, which most fill by over-eating. Most find it unattractive. Is that good? We can come up with all sorts of excuses, but that is all it is, ultimately!

smiley963: Some people don't have much in common, then say that opposites attract more.

Couples that are really close tend to have more in common, than not, and as couples get older, they start looking like each other too, and a funny thing is, people say that you look like your favourite animal too?

Has anybody got an explanation for it?
I'm more of the opposites attract kind of guy.People call me rico suave, and yet I'm turned on by trashy women.

That's typical for a Rico Suave.

The last guy I knew, that women called Rico Suave... who's name was really, Rico, died.

But while he was alive, I always thought God created Rico, so ugly women could get laid too.

Big, fat, gross ugly, with red eyes, coughing her lungs out with TB, drool on her mouth: and he'd run to her for a kiss...

He'd catch 5 or 6 of the ugliest women who came to the park, per day.

For years, Rico was a VD Vendor.

To keep the AIDS at bay, and clean his blood...

...he'd smoke cayenne pepper, drink hydrogen peroxide, and was always trying things like that.

I love diversity, I find it refreshing.

However, sometimes the gap is just too wide to bridge.......

pKrema: Similarities are what keep people together in the long run, that's how I see it...
Opposites attract but it becomes a problem more often than we would admit...
Hit the head on the nail - it's easier to have a lasting relationship when there's 'a lot in common' because there's alignment and harmony in similarity. The 'little bits' of difference 'make for keeping things interesting'

Too many difference though ( and opposites imply diametrically opposed positions ) and there's eternal conflict ...

Well, I'm about 2 m (1 foot 6, I believe), and I am caucasian. And I love tiny Asian women, so for me the differences attract.
