... to many so why do we have a long weekend to 'celebrate' it
Today is Easter Saturday and all I've heard all afternoon is chainsaws from next door and now that the sun has gone down, young drunk blokes hooning up and down the street...

Sad to say this is the case everywhere business as usual, except the government, is off and has another free day on Monday, like no mail delivery etc.

I just think it's a bit of a joke Jenny
Most people I know hold no religious beliefs so I believe it's not up to governments to hold them on on their behalves ( not sure if that's a word lol)
Easter has enormous significance! It has nothing to do with noisy people on your street. Perhaps you have never read the Bible. It is the most widely read and sold book in the history of humans. The first 4 books in the New Testament of the Bible explain the meaning of Easter. It is more important than Christmas. It is the time to pay respects to the act of Jesus sacrificing himself to save humans from hell, and instead offer everlasting life. It shows the biggest act of forgiveness ever made, (symbolically), and we can follow that example with our own lives, giving of ourselves to others who need us.... If you have faith, you can accept his sacrifice. If you read the Bible you will understand. And go to a Church, they will tell you. You will feel it.

Joke or no, I respect those that do have a belief, and thereby we have a holiday to relax with family and friends and be happy

Thanks for your response Rejuvenation but I did say to 'most people'
I fail to see how drunken idiots roaming up and down suburban streets has anything to do with a religious event which is the point of my thread.

On the contrary Jesus died for our sins. The leeway of easter was and remains the license to be free, one can't underestimate the philosphical importance of god ascending to the heavens and leaving his followers to be governed by the holy spirit. Atheists, liberals and scientists in the west stem from this freedom in religion, as unfrotunately so does the squalor.

I respectfully disagree. I hate holidays because being retired, there are more crazy drivers constantly on the roads and in my lane instead of only driving during rush hours for working people to get to wherever they have to be to earn money to support themselves.

Yeah they use the word Easter to celebrate getting pissed, thats all they know , same as someone with totally no religion saying ,"oh my God",,as got the chain saw ,, let them fire,,,
Holidays don't have to have the same significance to people regardless of what they are suppose to represent...people can celebrate them any way they choose....
It certainly is the most forgiving and flexible story in Christianity. Easter symbolises the end of gods active and direct influence on the earth, you’re on your own now. Better you all stick together through the Holy Spirit.
America’s capitalist religion(CINO - Christian In Name Only)is part of this leeway. You’re on your own now so every man for himself. I contend that Easter allows CINO to happen for better or worse.

Absolutely - Make love TO each other with each other & For each other 24 / 7 & ignore the world outside
sure...after we dye some cool easter eggs just for fun.....we can have a contest to see who dyes the coolest egg and the loser has to mix the drinks and roll the joints for the rest of night....
