tomcatty: I rather thought that was what you were doing, I sympathised with her in most of my posts you dissed her
Trust you to twist the facts. epirb posted a similar thought re the past which has a bad habit of affecting other people's future.

My sympathies still lie with a teenager who felt he couldn't cope with his home life and had to end it at 17. Now that truly is sad, and his Mother will have to live with that knowledge unfortunately.

Nules: I am not blaming authorities or as I would say services, they are under funded and understaffed, the state have a lot to answer to, by cutting the suicide prevention grants and suicide prevention officers many years ago to save money but not lives.
If someone wants to commit suicide, no authority in the world can stop them .
It’s the responsibility of the parents to help their child & stop blaming everyone else for their mistakes .

It is tragic of course, don't mean to lose sight of that. By the way I think his father was Donal not David.

True Nules. I can't speak for your Health Service obviously but yes under funding has got a lot to answer for and staff are pushed to the limits these days.

My heart goes out to the teenager who appeared to be a victim of his circumstances and chose to end his young life.sad_flower:

I hope you’re not too traumatised by his death, seeing that the family in question were so close to your heart .

Unfortunately this young man had suffered for a long time and had been reported missing many times in recent years, Our mental health system has let so many families down in Ireland and is extremely under funded. Heartbreaking stuff for everyone involved.

So are you blaming the authorities for his death?
Why didn’t Sinead use some of her royalties to get private therapy for her son ?

Do you know that he wasn't there as a private patient?

He was on suicide watch in the hospital, so yes, they carry some blame for the fact that he was able to leave.

A young man commited suicide. He had mental health issues, as has his mother.

Why am I not surprised that the resident experts feel this is something to rip into here ..

She is blaming the authorities, when in fact , she has to take some of the responsibility.

She is blaming Tusla and the HSE, in whose care her son was.
They do have questions to answer.

Are you saying that mental health issues are caused by parents and that they are responsible if their child commits suicide?

To a certain degree . Yes .
The parents are responsible for the care & upbringing of their child , which defines them as adults in later life .
We don’t know what family traumas the child faced.
Authorities are there to help , but they can’t be responsible for his state of mind , nor can they be responsible for his suicide.

So I am I taking from your quote that every person who dies by suicide, their parents have to take the blame???
Because my husband was 41 when he died by suicide and I never blamed his mother. I didn’t even know my husband was depressed!
I do suicide bereavement support and see the pain families are left after a death by suicide, any death is bad but death by suicide has a sting like no other death.
As I have said before “walk a mile in any one’s shoes and then criticize them!”
I have met parents who would have sold their soul to help save their children but couldn’t!
I feel you have never experienced loss to mental health issues or suicide and for that I think you are lucky, please be aware that’s a fine line between sanity and insanity.
Sorry I hope I haven’t offended anyone but I do speak from the heart.
