I can catch fish pretty much anywhere here, the ocean is a few minute walk from the house, lots of ponds in the woods. You can just drive along the highway across Newfoundland and there wouldn't be enough time in the day to visit each pond on the road side let alone those deeper into the woods. Fishing is a big thing here.

Is the North Atlantic cod safe to eat or do people worry about mercury contamination.
galrads: Is the North Atlantic cod safe to eat or do people worry about mercury contamination.
Our local cod would contain about 14% of mercury so not anything to worry about .One of the most harmful is tuna as it contains over 50% and possibly King Mackerel ,but other mackerel are high in Omega 3 and low in mercury. Wild and farmed salmon are low in mercury too.
Many people give their cats tinned tuna and even fresh and it can cause cancer.
Track16: Mercury is in most everything these days. People here generally don't give it a lot of thought though other parts of Canada is different.
I like to spend a day around lake Erie every once in a while. The fresh catch there of walleye and perch are just so good. Beer battered perch done right is to die for imho.
They are having a Million Dollar Fish contest at Lake Martin, Alabama. They released 200 tagged bass. The minimum prize associated with each tag is $1,500. The total value of all prizes is $1,500,000.
I used to catch lots of brim (shell crackers) using little balls of bread on the hook at a friend's private dock on the Saint Johns River. I also caught a small channel catfish and a freshwater sting ray. We put the sting ray back in the water. Here is a picture of the RR crossing on a drawbridge on the Saint Johns River from a SunRail train.
Grew up on this river. Live on this river. And rarely fish. I can through my bait into a school and catch nothing! Not big on eating fish anyway. So I prefer to catch fish at Walmart or Culvers.
