Online dating is very dodgy. Its easy to fake who you are on the internet and being behind a screen does strange things to some people. There are good people out there, you just need to look for them

You rarely get to know anyone nearby on the posts and the blogs/forums do not measure up to the chats of what now seems like long ago. As for the messages from who-knows-where wanting email, etc.--who cares? A simple reply asking for more information gets rid of them. I'm on here because those are gone. Expect nothing.

You are speaking of regular chats with people in comparison to chatting on here behind a computer? Guessing someone messaged you from Tem Buck Two and you asked a question about them and no reply was ever made. Those days of making sense when chatting are gone. Hope I got all that right
Cannot rely on the internet for Social interaction period. Finding real groups to do things with if family is not nearby in person is the best we can do these days. Facebook has some of the best social groups around

I agree with you "online dating is nonsense," but I think friendship could be great if the other person don't have a short attention span.

I had a friend in Pakistan and one on Taiwan. The former was the right age to get married, I hope that's the reason I don't hear from her. I still hear from Taiwan occasionally. These were both people met on the old e-chat. The format was different from here.
I never look at profiles. But, sometimes a few show up on the bottom of a page. I look at them and so many of them seem to say what they think a gal wants to hear. And all the same. They are kind, loving, cuddling, etc. Looking for the love of their life. Guys and maybe gals, need to be real. Tell about themselves not the trite text of their hunt. People on date sights know no one is looking for a Charles Manson or a wife beater. No one seeks a loser or user. So instead of writing the boring how great you are and that perfect mate you want..write about YOU.
