ward sister

I recall your tone
and your flashing eyes
as you spoke with me
never realized

You were hard sometimes
but then soft as well
and the trick was
how to tell

We would clash at work
or our day went well
you would be annoyed
or you would be swell

I must have annoyed you
its easy for me
stretched your patience
seems easily

But there were moments
when softness fell
and your warmth came through
so you would be swell

But when you once
were angry at me
kept it in
not for me to see

When i made the tea
for the ward patients
and asked if you
would like one too

You came to me
with pensive eyes
how are you nice to me
when my temper does rise

To a ward sister
in her navy dress
prehaps i kissed you
with a little kindness..

Ups and downs
we both knew
but ward sister jones
i still liked you.
