distant steps

I met you
but too late
on a railway station
in my teens
my other family

step sisters
only a step away
but it might as well
be the moon
got to say

raised polite
were friendly too
but the door
into their world
was slightly open

too many years
water flowing
so much of life
we lived
not knowing

but now
i am researching
a family tree
so you are there
along with me

it takes a step
to separate
and our union
my sisters
came too late

but who knows
where my
other family are
living somewhere
with a door ajar

though i am
glad to have known
you in that time
so may your
pathway and roads
be blessed
i can only wonder
of what could
have been
in memory now
nephews and nieces
out there too
maybe on my search
i will just find you.
