the malady shop

walking slowly, picking along
gazing left to right and back
seeing what the shelves offer
the most enticing at eye level

offering desires unbeknownst
I didn't even know such a thing
what would I do if I had it?
can I even afford the price?

chits of cancerous coupons
hanging, curiously tempting
can I reach out and take it?
would it be all I could afford?

the next isle over I stare
at the myriad of maladies
a far vision to be seen
conditions of every possibility

packaged Parkinson's disease
shiny red cuts and contusions
row upon row of depressions
hung heavy from sagging shelves

and blister packs of viruses
of every color and description
silent strokes hanging overhead
some heartless thrombosis

the little extras for credit
avarice and gluttony on display
arrogance inside the box
bags and bags of despair

and there I stand patiently
at the next isle of the shop
my nose slightly dripping
deals picked, payment at hand

seeming satisfied at choices made
counting items selected and
fingering predisposed containers
waiting in line to check-out

Having over-indulged in reading the HealthCare Act for the millionth time, I thought this was about it...but now I just feel its a hypochondriac's dream: Malady Shop! bouquet

Didn't know hospitals were places where your muse dwelt of late. Wish you stay far away from them and never mention maladies and have nothing to do with them for a long, long time. Cheers.

Hi GG, nice to see you back in such a poetic infusion. This one's great. As you get older all the remedies you are offered. Sometimes I wonder does it really make any difference. thumbs up drinking

Not only in the "Malady Mart", but the everyday grocery store...
professor Oh, the money spent on research...
to catch the consumer's eye and offer "desires unbeknownst".

You captured the ideal outcome of all their marketing research laugh
Great writing!
