Masters of War

You who are so ready to fight
And spill our children's blood
Why do you hide in bunkers so deep
Like rabbits in their warren

When bullets fly and death toil rise
Your face you do not show
Over maps you pour and strategise
And work out all expendables

If we strike first and we strike hard
You reason with your Generals
The enemy will be wiped out
And we will be the victors

Orders given, bombs are dropped
And thousands decimated
You rub your hands, with glee you shout
Their casualties far exceed ours

War is good, you propound
It boosts the economy
All these weapons that we've built
We can sell them abroad now

Never once you stop or think
Of all the pain you're causing
Look at your hands, covered in blood
From all these lives so innocent

Your name and country matter not
The same are you all
Servants of Satan, the evil one
In Hell you’ll all be rotting

An open letter to God…

Dear God,
I hope you had a good day today,

Today I have families in my heart, and I want to share my thoughts and requests with you about all the daddies and mommies and children everywhere…,

I pray that you will help all the daddies to be poised in every way[including self-respect], to be strong, to be respectful, to be able at what they do, to be nice to their fellow-workers and their mean bosses, to betimes think of their children and their special mommy, and only her, not to be enticed by any other mommy and to smile inwardly and to send them loving, kind, gentle, happy thoughts…
Also dear God, I pray that when the daddies come home, they’re greeted with us children yelling:-“Yay! Daddy is home”, and with a special kiss from their special mommy that makes them all tingly inside…
Amen

Today, dear God, I also pray that you will help all the mommies, to be poised, to be nurturing, to be patient, to be wise, and strong, and also to respect themselves, and not to pay too much attention to their insecurities[like does daddy still love me? Of course he does, of course he does]. I know dear God that most mommies also have to go to work these days, and I ask that you mightily be with them there, and help them not to lose their femimininity[spelling mistake on purpose…] in this extremely yang world…
Also dear God, because mommies have sooo much to do these days,[too much], I pray that you will give them time to nurture themselves and put on their face mask, go the salon, etc., so that they can retain their outer beauty, even though their inner beauty always burns bright, mommies will become discouraged if their outer beauty does not keep up, and then they may begin to hide their inner beauty, and if that happens, you know and I know Lord, that the world is lost then…
Amen…

Lastly dear God, I pray for us children,
We’re so vulnerable, we need protection from so many things, we need guidance, we need nurturing, we need encouragement, and, of course we need happy daddies and happy mommies,
Because, as you know, we get our happiness from them dear lord…
Nevertheless, we are also tempted by many temptations that our mommies and daddies did not have in their day, too much violence on TV, violent computer games, porn on the internet, predators of every kind just waiting to prey on us…
Protect us from these ugly things dear lord…
But, dear God, don’t forget that we also need play and laughter and joy and peace and a strong feeling of security and above all, we need our mommies and daddies to teach us self-esteem, self-love, and the courage to pursue our dreams no matter how way out they may seem…

These things I ask dear Lord, as I now lay me down to sleep,
And I also pray for you dear God, ‘cause I know you have a lot to deal with as well, things like wars and floods and bad people who do not follow the way of love and peace,
God be with you too, dear God…
Thank you and bye for now,
Amen…

New Points of Failure

Take a bite from the apple, my dear.
The taste of knowledge will open up
for you a whole new world, you’ll see.
The juices will flow from lips down
your cheek as it searches out your soul.

Take a byte from the Apple, my dear.
Worlds will be conquered and compromised
as virtual realities surpass the tangible one
leaving you wanting for more, feeling less
numb from images, carpal tunneling home.

***

When are we able to understand this stuff?
you kindly ask with enlightened, digital pen.
Hopefully, the answer is, “Never”, my dear friend
for such knowledge comes as infliction’s twin
as those we love fall, though not from original sin.

Science searches answers, wonders does create
Each wonder-answer another question it does make
while these new questions rise to seal our future’s fate.
It’s not nice to mess with Mother Nature, 'tis said.
We won’t grasp the wisdom ‘til to death we're led.

Dream a Dream

Sad and sorry sight you are
Sagging round the edges
Gutters hanging, rusted roof
Windows sightless staring
Mortar crumbling, cracking walls
Floorboards creaking, groaning
Weeds in garden overgrown
Fencing missing and broken

Yet there you sit so patiently
Waiting to be discovered
To dream a dream
And give you love
To bring you back to life
Once again a joyous home
For a brand new family

Shaman’s spell…, a Flat Earth Internet Café tale…

I found myself this morning at my usual haunt, the new age shop, where lost souls like me gather to observe the world go round, as we no longer can genuinely say that we are part of ‘the-merry-go-round-world’, sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes it’s a bad thing,
The good thing is that its probably all in our heads, a place that even I don’t like to frequent…,
You see, the thing is…,
Never mind…

I was watching my friend, the so-baptized ‘high priestess’ of the new age movement on the island[to protect innocent people, the island does not exist of course, its mythical…, sure hope this disclaimer will hold…, sigh, one of these days, we’re gonna have to have disclaimers about disclaimers…] interact with a young man, telling him all about the magical powers of various crystals,
And thinkin’, ‘yawn-yawn’…, I know, I’m a closet bigot, so sue me, but the thing is…,
Suddenly and totally out of context, the young man asks her if she knows of anyone who does past-life regressions on the island,
My eras pricked up, and I got creeped out just a tad, she glanced at me laconically, and asked him why,
He replied that he has some issues he wants to address with some past-life soul mates,
‘woo-woo’, yeah, I know, I know…,
I’m very fortunate to have the high priestess looking out for me and filtering the weirdoes from disturbing my serenity,
Tsk, tsk, and I said that without blushing,
What have things come to…,
Anyways, I agree to do him, geez, I’m talking about the past-life regression gig, which gutter did your mind saunter to?
Forsooth!

Then, as if sensing my skepticism re: crystals, ever so innocently, ever so nonchalantly, the young man draws me into conversation,
And, afore I knew it, I was under the Shaman’s spell,
Holding crystals, swaying, and feeling tingly all over without being touched, a novel sensation…, har, har, yeah, I know, occasionally, I find my mind in the gutter too, so sue me…,
Anyways, after an hour of treating me, and jolts going through my heart chakra, and some other unmentionable parts, I must say, I’m converted,
I felt lighter, more peaceful, alert, and tranquil,
But, here’s the big surprise,
I had an unbelievable epiphany:-
“Sometimes, paradise is in hell and hell in paradise…”,
But, that’s a tale for another time…

TV...fact or fiction? good or bad?

Ah...television. As we are exposed to this endless tirade/parade of visual rubbish, rather than merely beating one's head against the wall in a too consistant repetitive fashion, I offer up some side views of distraction (yes, just like TV) geared to somewhat ease the constant headache that we find ourselves ordealing with when viewing television.
'It helps to be smashed out of your skull.'-me
'I find television to be very educational. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.'-Groucho Marx
'In general, my children refuse to eat anything that hasn't danced on television.'-Erma Bombeck
'If you read a lot of books you are considered well read. But if you watch a lot of TV, you're not considered well viewed.'-Lily Tomlin
'Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other.'-Ann Landers
'Television is the first culture available to everybody and entirely governed by what the people want. The most terrifying thing is what people do want.'-Clive Barnes
'Television is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn't have in your house.'-David Frost
'All television is children's television.'-Richard P. Adler
'When I got my first television set, I stopped caring so much about having close relationships.'-Andy Warhol
'Television is a medium of entertainment which permits millions of people to hear the same joke at the same time, and yet remain lonesome.'-T.S. Eliot
'I hate television. I hate it as much as peanuts. But I can't stop eating peanuts.'-Orson Welles
'TV is chewing gum for the eyes.'-Frank Lloyd Wright
'Television has brought back murder into the house, where it belongs.' 'Seeing a murder on television can help work off one's antagonisms. And if you haven't any antagonisms, the commercials will give you some.'-Alfred Hitchcock
'Radio is the theatre of the mind; television is the theatre of the mindless.'-Steve Allen
'If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace.'-John Lennon
'Thank God we're living in a country where the sky's the limit, the stores are open late and you can shop in bed thanks to television.'-Joan Rivers
'The facts of life are that a child who has seen war cannot be compared with a child who doesn't know what war is except from television.'-Sophia Loren
'Television is not so much interested in the business of communications as in the business of delivering audiences to advertisers. People are the merchandise, not the shows. The shows are merely the bait.'-Les Brown
'If the education of our kids comes from radio, television, newspapers, then the powers that be are definitely in charge, because they own all those outlets.'-Maynard James Keenan (paraphrased)
'Each day a few more lies eat into the seed with which we are born.'-Norman Mailer on newspapers, television, movies

Speed Demons

So now a licence you do have
And on the road we find you
Rules you think do not apply
They only apply to others

Speed signs you think such a joke
The road was made for racing
Look out world, here I come
You scream with pedal to metal

Should a car get in your way
Abuse you hurl at them
Toss a bottle, cut them off
Whatever takes your fancy

What a shame that some of you
Won't live past mid twenties
Mangled wrecks and screams of pain
All that could've been avoided

Trick-or-Treat

Seven-billion mark by Halloween; by
2050, estimated at three billion more.
Contemplate: what is our planet to do?
Will there be enough resources for me
– not to mention, what about for you?

Environmental damages, already great
from various agricultural endeavors
contribute oxygen-depleting gases
as global warming effects of weather
add fuel to the war of the classes.

Children should not be into poverty born
living lives as insurance premiums paid
to hedge parents’ bets against old age
as fertility rates drop for the wealthiest
leaving stunned demographers in a daze.

With two children per woman required
for population, in balance with needs, to remain
both too many and too few have costs to pay.
Those fighting family planning will eventually
see theirs and more lives crumble away.

Unless solutions, real, deal with the growth
we’ll crowd into spaces once human-free
as population explodes to numbers untold.
Then, we’ll understand the benefits many
of planned births and senses control.

The Battle

Flip the coin, the answer's there
Bat or bowl is the question
Suited up the batsman goes
To face the bowler's fury

Glare at him, the evil eye
And start his mighty run up
Let ball fly at tremendous pace
Must be almost a hundred and fifty

Crack of ball against willow
And shouts of, catch it
Arms outstretched and in the air
The fingers find their target

Excited men mill around
As batsman back to pavilion
One wicket down with nine to go
The battle has just begun

Change

Sometimes we must fail
To rise, sink to swim –
Sometimes we must be ugly
To be beautiful

The goslings fell and fell
Their first second and third
Attempt at flying

But they kept getting up
Running and dancing
Backwards and forwards
Lifting and flapping
Higher with each attempt

Sometimes we must lay
Down our pride
Like a sword
And bare our souls and hearts

Sometimes we must anchor
Ourselves in pain
To lift the veils of change

For change can come
Like a twister
Or grow steady like a tree
Sometimes we must fail, we must let go
To grow…and

One never fails when one
dares to change
One never fails when one
dares to fail
