About this poem:
When I put together this list I used the billboard top 100 list as I listened to Casey Kasem back in the 80's. I limited myself to the top three songs for each year, many years barely had three, and others had less than that. PSY's Gangnam Style has been my most listened to on the list.

risks

Being risky is so exciting in life
some things you don't risk like loosing your wife
loosing your life
Or your privilege to drive

You should never risk others
Like sisters and brothers Fathers and Mothers
friends and lovers
peace in the world or the respect of all others

Things that you risk
you surely should own
the material things
you never hear groan
things you might replace
with a call on the phone

girls

Why does it seem
at the very first look
The bigger the girl
The quicker the hook

The prettier the girl
she wont even look
The smarter the girl
shes already took

If she is so strong
shes harder to touch
But if she had a big heart
I could love her so much

So many men
hurt so many girls
its amazing to me
they are still in this world

The Commute

I am struggling
With the pace of life
Never far removed
From toil and strife
The hours drawing near
Life drifting so afar
All the time wondering
Who the hell we are
Is life really progress
When we have no time
Under so much stress
Travelling down
The highway so sublime
Ever careful to observe
To whom we must serve
‘Till suddenly at once
We have to swerve
Just to survive

Love to Share

Freedom some say is something to fight for
Was that before or after the war’s won
So each generation will fight this war
Always finishing what was left undone

Scarce the peace ‘till another battle fought
Does dust ever settle on warring tribes
Pouring lead down barrels of guns have brought
Only nation’s wealth paying off the bribes

One life to live, another give away
Really amount to anything that much
For in the end we go our merry way
And only the past becomes out of touch

What matters most in life is love we share
And showing each other how much we care

Wisdom

There was a time when I was old
But now I feel much younger
There was a time I thought I knew it all
Then I realised I know nothing

Oh how blind in your arrogance
You boldly stride through life
The more you think you know it all
The less you really know

It is said that wisdom comes with age
But sometimes age comes on its own

Evolution

Kindness
In the afternoon
Speaks to my lonely soul
Breadcrumbs in the park
Scattered after dark
Hunger beyond control

Blindness
Floating on the wing
Falling from a high perch
Clutching in my claws
Incoherent of my flaws
Craving all I smirch

Goodness
Searching over me
Coming and going
Never lasting long
Like a bird’s song
Hidden in a tree

Wiseness
Gaining over time
Taking and giving
Spoken words of truth
Even the most uncouth
Hearing the bells chime

Soundness
Challenging my mind
Rising and falling
Testing it for faults
Bending somersaults
Becoming so defined

Greatness
When the time comes
Growing and shrinking
Like cloudy shadows
Coming through windows
Sounds of beating drums

The American Dream

Have you bought, the scheme?
That keeps you in debt, to the 1%
The house, the car.
I want, I want, I want it all!!!
But first I have to pay off, this college Tution course.
25,00.00 in the hole.
I must get a job, to pay it all off.
Sadly there is no job in my field,
This was not apart, of the deal.
They told me to get a education
I would be at the top.
Right now I have to find a job,
If it means, pushing a mop.
One credit card left, I've paid off 3
These interest rates, are killing me.
I wish I took some time to think
Things through.
The white picket fence, if only I knew.
The American Dream, I had to pursue.
A mortgage seemed, so unreal at the time.
That old French word
Mort- dead
Gage- pledge
Plagues, the mind
What was I thinking, IM not free.
In debt, I will forever be.
I bought the dream, red, white & blue
Education, house, car & other things to.
Yes I bought the dream!!!
but they sold me a lie
The American dream, comes with a stiff price.
So before you want a piece of the pie
Remember in debt we trust, is the truth
Behind the lies...

Wants and Needs

I try to write,
my thoughts,
my feelings;
the emotion that pulsate through me, the experience that come before me.

Somedays the sadness
Seems to just stay
Food becomes tasteless
Life now gloomy
Since you went away

The heart breaking truth
But our lust I don't regret
Life is full of mistakes
what is life if we don't learn?
what is life if we don't greed?
Not only for money,
but love,
trust,
even beliefs;
and for some of us,
just simple peace.

And so the world is built on our wants and need;
shelter,
food,
water,
clothing;
wanting riches and non-necessity

We sleep our heads on feathered pillows,
while others rest bitterly,
waiting for a better tomorrow.

Battle for Our Souls

Opportunities to ride the wave, the tsunami of a developing nations, paving the path of capitalist creation. An economic glut, profits and rising capitalization, corruption, dirty business; is this the communist or capitalist way? 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do', unfreeze, adapt or be wash to shore, like broken shells and forgotten bottles, unable to change, forever stuck, in a single moment, a forgotten photo, behind a frame . Poverty stricken, policies unenforceable, investors unwilling and the average income, is $1 dollar a day. the streets are filled with the homeless, beggars, hungry children, suffering citizens, living on minutes of the day. The world is changing, overcrowded as the population grows, finite resources infinite wants, we're using it all. The future unknown, but what have we learnt? Probably nothing, or to make a big bomb. But even the traditionalist, must bend to 'the invisible hand', for the forces of nature, only god can comprehend. Children of the dust and in death we return, shadows of the night, takes our soul and they burn. So isn't it ironic, that we started from a bang, populated the garden and developed a brain. As from savages to modern society, the serpent slithers on, patiently stalking, seeking its return. Influencing our judgment, persuading our sins, tapping our emotion, sucking us in. The battle we now fighting, some battles we can't win.

About this poem:
Afraid that I would have to change and adapt to the Vietnamese way of doing business, which means arrogance and pushy, flaunting my money and power , treating others rudely and demanding people to do things for me. Afraid I would lose my humanity.
