Humanity's future

Bleak without my freedom
Choice I was given none
Out of fear you trod away
Resigned from it all
Submission to defeat
A call you obliged to
At the expense of my future
In the hands of bigots
terror clad robbers
An offering of my guts and
Spilled my lifeless body
In a cup of sand covered with blood.

But,
Over my dead body will I lose sight of my children's future.

We have as much right to be who we are and I will fight till my last breath is charged protecting that right, wouldn't you?

About this poem:
In honor of a world we once knew which will disappear because of our indifference and nonchalance.

It's easier to accept defeat especially for those who are weak.

Kavanaugh

Clarence Thomas
Now it's Brett Kavanaugh
From the Catholic church
To just about every business
You keep hearing about bad men
Men like Bill Cosby
Who will not keep their hands to themselves
Is this guy guilty?
I think he is
But the more important point is this
Do these victims have a voice?
Are they being protected?
Or are we just too ready to look the other way
Is it safe in America for women
Especially pretty women
I hear this stuff and it makes my stomach turn
And it makes me mad
I want women to be respected
And I want the Catholic church to allow priests to get married
And Kavanaugh not to be chosen as the next Supreme Court judge

Sonnet No1

Shall I compare thee to a wet Monday?
Thou art more miserable and dull.
Watching TV, on thy couch doest thou lie,
guzzling snacks, yet ne’er seem full.

Oft-times too much the effort proves,
exertion for usefulness to devote.
thy sluggish body hardly moves,
save to press the buttons on thy remote.

Apart from thy telly, and need to be fed,
thou seem’st not to have any cares.
Thou doest not a thing betwixt sofa and bed
save to haul thy fat arse up the stairs.

As for contribution to society, to rest some pride upon,
‘tis with regret I say to thee, thou art a slob and maketh none.

About this poem:
My work sometimes requires me to visit people's homes, where I often get an insight into their lifestyle. This is an attempt to describe one in particular.

Cash Call

I love you Cash Call!
Cash wired right in my account
No one would lend me any money
Not even my relatives!
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Ha! Ha! Ha!
(Three months later)
I hate you cash call!
500% interest taken right out of my account
I can't afford to do anything
Not even visit my relatives!
Boo! Hoo! Hoo!
Boo! Hoo! Hoo!

About this poem:
The first part is an actual advertisement with the late Gary Coleman as their pitchman. The last part you won't ever see on TV, but these money lending places are making out worse than bandits.

Karaoke

You get up there to sing your song
You hope you sing it well
You hope the audience is actually listening
You hope they enjoy your performance
You fight the fear of being on stage
You try to get to a place where you don't care what they think
You just let it flow
If you are successful you get a good feeling
But you have to have a good song, performance, and audience
Getting all three to come together is real tough
But it is the desire to give joy
A joy that will make them forget whatever is going on in their lives
For a brief moment all is right with the world
I guess that is what drives all performers
Whether they be comedians, singers, artists, athletes
You want to inspire people
To bring happiness to their lives
To be a star
And if you're really good
To be a diamond!

****

i hate, hearing complaint and complaints
i hate, endless conflicts and battles
**
i hate, deep valley between hearts
i hate, mysterious whispers & hates
i hate, human similarity to vacillatory statue
**
i hate, nonsense & colourless words
i hate, exaggeration & bragging
i hate, false & unreasonable ruckus
**
i hate, praising golden idols & treasures
i hate, roguish tricks of capital accumulation
i hate, insatiable bellies
**
i hate, dumb minds
i hate, owning ears, but acting as a deaf
i hate, owning eyes, but acting as a blind
**
i hate, rootless promises
i hate, lack of similarity between words & mind
i hate, the duality of humans

Roseanne

I bought your Season 3 last night at Goodwill
But it seems the network made you chill
You sent a mean tweet
You thought was neat
But those in power
Took away my favorite comedy hour
You spoke it from the hip
While you got fat on too much chips and dip
But I didn't care
It just isn't fair
Comedy, especially by a woman is hard to do
To make people laugh, well you really pulled through
So I'll just save your last show on my DVR
While I watch your DVD at home and in my car

About this poem:
All this political correctness is really making TV lame, thankfully we have DVDs.

America by Claude McKay

Although she feeds me bread of bitterness,
And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth,
Stealing my breath of life, I will confess
I love this cultured hell that tests my youth.
Her vigor flows like tides into my blood,
Giving me strength erect against her hate,
Her bigness sweeps my being like a flood.
Yet, as a rebel fronts a king in state,
I stand within her walls with not a shred
Of terror, malice, not a word of jeer.
Darkly I gaze into the days ahead,
And see her might and granite wonders there,
Beneath the touch of Time’s unerring hand,
Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand.

About this poem:
A black immigrants view of the US in the '20s, powerful and thought provoking. Have we really moved on? You could swap out the title with any other country and still the poem would make sense. That's indicative of the harsh reality of 21st century living

Teacher Rant

I hate these kids
This pay I'm getting
What a joke!
There is no respect for teachers
None, zip, nada
How has it gone so bad so fast
It used to be good for teachers
A good pension after 30 years
You could retire in your mid 50's and have about 30 years of good retirement
Teach 30, retire 30, sounded great, right?
Now that has been stripped away to give it to fat cronies like Donald Trump
And don't get me started with these kids
Parents who want to be friends to their kids
Kids being raised by grandparents because their parents chose drugs instead
Kids who do things so disgusting and bullying that redefines cruelty
I should quit, but I have three things that keep me going to this tomb
June, July, and August!

About this poem:
After the school shootings on Valentine's Day, I have been researching teaching and what led to this and many other shootings in our schools. I got out in 96, as I taught and got bulldozed over by those kids every day.
