30 years

we came from near
we came from far
to trust the truth
to duel and spar
to stand upon
the hill of scarves
to nurture all
that darkness starves

"what then? cried Shankly's ghost.. what then?"

we lost our souls
all ninety six
and wrote their names
upon the bricks
and lit a flame
on every shirt
so justice knew
their family's hurt
and sang
"you'll never walk alone"
through Madrid Squares
and dusty Rome

what then?.. cried the the thief of time, what then..?

we woke to greet
the phantom dawns
as passion fought
the corporate pawns
to bleed away
and leverage hope
to bitter end
we burned the rope
and rose again
as europe fell
to the hoards of light
of brave redmen

what then? cried Shankly's ghost.. what then?

the world fell in
to viral rage
that stopped the streets
so fell the blade
and took the dream
and ran away
and stole each light
each smiling ray
but nonetheless
the truth did out
as scousers smiled
from every mouth

thirty years since tropy shown
its true..
"you'll never walk alone"

Parking Way Too Close!

I have had a neighbor since January of 2019 park way too close
This morning I wanted some snacking bacon from Dunkin Donuts
I try to get in my car and I can't get in because her car is parked too close
I can't slide in, so I crawl over the passenger side and get in that way
Now my leg hurts from having to contort my body to get in my driver's seat
I couldn't even get my bacon in Platteville because they open at 6
I got there at 5:30
So I drive to the one in Dubuque which is about 27 miles
They open at 5
If I go to the Landlord again, she will tell me to talk with Mary
I just talked to her last week about it
She says she's sorry, but I don't need sorry
I need her to quit parking me in
So I will have to do one of two things
Either back in, so my driver's side faces the other side
Or park in my neighbor's parking spot
I guess I'm backing in
Cause my leg is @#$%ed!

About this poem:
I've had some bad neighbors
The black couple from Nigeria tops the list
They used to complain about my stomping on their roof
And they slow cooked and filled the hall with a horrible stench all the time
Thankfully they have been gone since 2012

Town Meeting Day

On those coldest winter nights
The bells are silent
A magnetic field lights the sky
Even the night birds agree to comply
As silence gathers in the night
There is a sky so full of stars
O’er a horizon is…. Mars
We huddled citizens gather
Church meetings and turkey pies
People trying to stretch out
A meager means to survive
All is cast in such a ballet
New England Town Meeting Day
When every vote counts
And every decision made
What’s meant to be... will be
And alleviate any doubts
Soon enough the grass will be green
And Easter will rise like the sun
Erasing any fears that mount
Like monsters rising from the sea
This earth this place we all call home
Will keep on going and growing
Whether or not you can keep pace
Won’t matter 'cause it ain’t slowin’
What barely now is growing
In the end of really not knowing
What really matters or not
So sow the seeds of peace
Only goodness and joy will sprout

About this poem:
American Grass Roots Democracy is possibly something better to talk about on the end of a long New England winter and it is called, Town Meeting Day, when important decisions are made.

21 Century Colossus

His eyes are a raging ocean
Cast out in the middle of night
Seas of surging blue and green
Searchlights casting over foam
Restlessly around the globe
Searching every shoreline
Yearning to find some peace
On past around every turn
Sought heralding in the night
Survive a more perilous flight
Seeking shelter and a new life
Torn by tentacles of war and strife
Searches at freedom’s front door
All lit up by a statue in a harbor
Holding a torch of light up high
Give me your tired and poor...
Yearning to breath free……...
If not for you….. than for who
….........………….if only for me

About this poem:
It is unbearable to watch anymore the plight of refugees across this planet without questioning everything we have been led to believe in and care about.

Impeach

Donald Trump
Seems this word is spoken so often it gets sickening
What about the other presidents
What could they have been impeached for
Nixon for extending the Vietnam War
Ford for pardoning Nixon
Carter for screwing up the economy
Reagan for exporting jobs and crushing unions
Bush for writing up NAFTA
Clinton for passing NAFTA
Bush Jr. for going into Iraq
Obama for creating millions of deadbeats on welfare
Trump for not paying taxes and allowing rich people not to pay taxes
The American voter for voting in all these slimeballs(I voted for Clinton + Obama)

Meanwhile...

Suburban house
Two kids and a Wife
Off into Town on the 8:21

To silver spires
That reach to the sky
Monuments to greed
With no need

Men in razor cut suits
Women in slashback skirts
Go to service their God
Daily internment

Meanwhile

Down on the streets
Around the towers
Sitting in doorways
In yesterdays fashions

Smoking and wondering
Where the day
Will take them
Food or not
Tobacco or not
Wash or not
A hit to dull the pain

The girls a target
For the perv about town
The weirdie
The pimp
And the killer...

To Be Snow Or Not To Be Snow

To be snow or not to be snow
That is the question
Whether tis noble to go out and try to make it to the hockey game
Or stay home and be out 32 bucks for two tickets
And by going out into that frigid mess and die
To sleep no more
And by a sleep and say we end
The frostbite and a thousand little pins of pain shooting across my foot
To consume overpriced pizza and Mt Dew
To dream of an income that will allow me to partake in souvenirs
When I will shuffle off this wild hockey puck
To die, but I know my chances to sleep no more are better at a baseball game
Or if I was in England, at a football(soccer) game
Those hockey players are fit and brave, and there's the rub
For they practice many long hours and they have my utmost respect
They will bear the boos and scorns of the crowd if they fail to score enough goals
The other team will be consumed with pride
And in that pride will be consumed with lost love
Of their few fans who made the perilous trip from Chicago, the windy city
To go back and grunt and sweat under a weary life'
A life like the Chicago Bears and the gun-toting cowards that live there
And lose once again in the name of pride and inaction

2020 Resolutions

Use less plastic straws
Use less plastic bags
Save the planet
Eat more fruits and vegetables so less cows and pigs are raised in factory farms
Watch Dr. Phil so i can be a more sensitive man
Walk more so my car doesn't spew out harmful toxins that cause global warming
Continue to have no kids so the world won't be overpopulated
Don't hunt so wild animals can live in peace
Don't drive after dark in rural areas so I don't hit deer with my car
If the water's yellow let it mellow, if the water's brown, flush it down
Follow and support Greta Thunberg
Eat foods that arn't wrapped in plastic as much as possible
Keep myself informed on global warming and polar bears

WILLIAM WINTER 1792 Last man to hang in Northumberland

Fear gripped his heart
ripped it apart
His trembling limbs
had knowledge of his sins
Hanging was the game
Survival was plain
nonsense he knew
So right on que
he the last one
swung on the gibbet
until his bones and flesh rotted.

About this poem:
The gibbet is still there for all to see, the two ladies with him were hung in Newcastle

Keeping America Beutiful

There are many things you can do to keep America beautiful
Reuse plastic bottles and fill them from the tap
Don't throw garbage out of your car onto the side of the road
Instead put it in the trash when you get home
When hunting, fishing, or trapping, only take what is legally allowed
So the future generations can have an abundance of wild life
If you camp, be sure your fire is completely out, even the coals
If you must have children, have only one
So the future won't be overcrowded and the animals lose their habitats
Vote for candidates that believe in strong immigration laws
So the future children will have jobs and safe streets to play in
Recycle so we don't use up all our resources
Be kind to your neighbors so they will have peace in their hearts
