Mary Bevan

Mary was born
in 1881
in family
making up five

times were not easy
but she got through
mary i never knew you

got a job as a domestic
working for a family
hope she was happy

your life was short
and you left too soon
mary i never knew you

as the century turned
to 1901
mary you were gone

one day mary
in heaven
we may meet
prayer said
over you

and on that windy day
the grave where you lay
with your family
my distant family too
mary i have wondered
about you

"LIFE'S LESSONS"

Sat on her lap till age eight or above, my mother taught me how to love. Sunrise sunset not afraid of the dirt my father taught me how to work. "Dont back down, when your right, your right" my grandma taught me how to fight. "God comes first every day all day" my grandpa taught me how to pray.

Someday

In a quaint little village
I'm home, yet not home.
Surrounded by people
And yet completely alone.
Never knowing,
And trying not to show,
What people will do,
And apprehensions grow!
Scared of a life -
That I don't know how to live.
Keeping bundled inside
All that I want to give.
Wanting to talk,
Just needing a friend,
Sometimes so down
Wishing life would end.
But I'll hold on to the string of life
Sometimes just between my fingertips,
And try to keep going with a smile,
Hoping the string never slips.
For someday, I know,
I'll find a reason for being here,
I'll find a way of giving,
I'll find someone dear.
And someday, maybe,
Not quite so alone,
I'll find a place
That can really be home.

About this poem:
It took me many years to learn that I had to stop trying so hard to make others happy and make myself happy first or I would never be home.

Teach me to part

Trains, planes, stations.
We leave and
We settle in deaf
Stagnated places,
We take off
And fall down
Sleepless nights,
Shaky ash, cigarette light
And our poems
Just like that,
By the way.
But don't be afraid
Of not enough love
In your life.
Just teach me to part
Trains, planes, stations.

Simple Country Life

Long in sunny hollow does grass grown green
Watching apple blossums fall in the breeze
Slowly drifting past are clouds so serene
Great time to daydream or do as you please

Out behind the yellow farmhouse finds you
Hanging all our fresh washed clothes on a line
Nothing better can a warm spring sun do
Make any linens fresher or smell so fine

Living in the fair countryside immume
Far away from the city's smog and noise
Smelling sweet fragrance when wild flowers bloom
Is something very few of us enjoys

How great it makes a simple country life
A peaceful place for a man and his wife

Battle for Life

Fight with all your might
It is a battle tried and true
Don’t ever lose your sight
Victory, we must subdue

You feel your strength is waning
Remember you have our support
Each muscle and nerve is straining
You feel your body contort

They stick you with needles daily
Fill your veins with poison and drugs
You lay in bed so frailly
And all I can offer is hugs

Remission is what we long for
And daily we all wait to see
The spoils of battle are the words
To hear you are cancer free.

Legend of Mara (Part XXV)

So this finally was it. This was the biggest day in Hamburg since Mara was born. Their little Mara now all grown up and getting wed to the most popular man in the village. Things like the curse was burried so deep that it was almost forgotten.

Hulderic the White Wolf was dressed in the traditional wedding garb that was reserved for nobility. He wore the traditional black Lederhose which was heavily embroidered on the front panels and suspenders. With this he wore the grey long socks and jet black shoes. The shirt was red and white chequered and with this came the black Lederjacke which was also embroidered the same as the Lederhose. To top this off he wore a grey felt hat with a huge feather.

His best man Heribert, whose elbow had healed rather well, and the groomsman Gerhard all wore similar outfits but not as ornate. There was no mistaking as to which one was the groom. Everyone thought that Hulderic the White Wolf looked even more handsome because of the snow white skin contrasting the black leather. Normally a cool, calm and collected man, this time he was pacing backwards and forwards showing his nerves.

People took their places anxiously awaiting Mara Goddess of the sea. A murmur ran through the Meeting Hall in anticipation. What would she wear? No one had any idea or had seen anything. This was going to be a total surprise. The only two people who knew were Frieda and Luitgard. They were the best of the dressmakers and they begged to be allowed to make Mara’s wedding outfit. Torture would not have made them reveal anything.

A sudden hush fell over the crowd. Something was happening. The wedding drums started their beat, first slow and measured rising in tempo then being joined by the Gemshorn then followed by the eerie sounds of the Dudelsack. A gasp fell over the assembly and Hulderic staggered as Mara made her entrance.

Climbed a Hill

Climbed way up a hill there
years ago when time was new
i left the farm and wandered on
to a place where time had gone

Up that hill through the day
following the marked out way
trees and pastures
lay behind me

Then upon a certain place
paused to say a prayer
so close to heaven
and God is there

There on knees said a prayer
God and clouds everywhere
still and peaceful
find the memory there

Some say God does not exist
then you have to see the mist
in that silence you will know
he will always his love show

petal

cat eye dreams
sharp as winters knife
cutting cold stars
like diamonds from the bone
left the moon in stillness beside you
a lover and a quantum thief

No Going Back

A decade of love... much hope and adventure
A decade of "why's"... great sorrow... much fears
The Rock in the Forrest...this time no Inscription
Where once it promoted more than a few tears

I prayed for a sign in this Holy of Holy's
Not long... it was clear there was something amiss
To-day no birds chorus to complete the illusion
Bade Adieu to the Rock with finality... kiss!

"Its not over 'til its over...and not 'til the Fat Lady sings"

The curtain comes down She has sung with deep feeling...

"A Robin can't fly on one wing"
