My thoughts are that these topics are 'Special interest' and could be moved to another area on this site.

I have contacted the site many times urging them to drop the 50 separate state format and replace it with one category but they refuse to even respond to my emails. I think it's all about REVENUE ie it looks better to advertisers when you can say you have 50 more categories. There should also be a Science category. We already have a Religion category right?

Many of us have contacted them through out the years. Including one year a thread dedicated to make the american forums a whole and not separate states. To no avail. Even when they redid the layout they did not change that. It is either done for advertising or amusement. It is sad because the United States forums are just a waste of space. Simple solution if some people don't like political topics then they should just create a website of their own and they can obviously chat about whatever it is they wish to chat about.

Thing is, this is supposed to be a dating site so if the focus is entirely on political and religious propaganda, maybe those folks can find another website that caters to it. I agree that many threads are at the wrong places and it becomes annoying...
There are two forums especially for politics and religion and it will be good if all the topics about those two are discussed at the proper forums...

You are raising excellent points.
As a professional mechanical development engineer all my life as well as an Aircraft engineer (Engine Fitter) and Instructor Teacher, still Hands on now with model making up to full-size prototypes, as it is a worldwide interest for many who are not lager swilling couch potatos and political moaners, I would advocate a 2 channel specific classification under Model Engineering for Model Engineers and Model makers General.
As it is we have to be lumped in with the arts and crafts forum for anything attempted only to be hi- jacked by the arrogant stupid piss takers on CS who do not know how to use a Micrometer Vernier caliper, one end of a basic lathe or Milling machine from the other much less use them or to design, Draw parts and create a 1/12, 1/4 or half-scale fully working model.
