Thats an interesting point squidley . Faith in god was always for people who could not accept science also i believe sometimes. I mean i do not understand science , because my brain does not go thee either,but i see far more evidence that science is believable than god. ,... thats just for me .. I think people who have faith just want to believe in god because they like what they hear and they feel a security in religion. It helps them overcome the fear of death and disease. I think it is interesting to observe how the poorer the people the more they depend on god and religion for a kind of relief from everyday woes. How even a hundred years ago religion played a much greater part in the universe as an explanation for the unexplainable . As modern science has progressed in leaps and bounds our reality is more closely related to science than god nowadays. Even having lived mostly in a muslim community these past 5 years I can see here there are many more non religious arabs as well these days. I have also met quite a few atheists who are of middle eastern background . Yes religion is a funny thing. I have many friends who are religious and good on them , if religion is what they need for themselves , go for it. Its all a personal choice up to the individual. saskia
This is a good topic . I was brought up religiously but was never convinced. I had no faith , i simply did not believe . I used to look around the church at all these people praying and singing and living their lives in accordance with the bible, ( supposedly ) only to realise they all had one thing in common ... they were afraid of death. Personally , I don't need to have a promise of everlasting life or heaven in order to be a good person or live a good life. I look at these devoted people sometimes and wonder what they feel in their moment of death . I wonder how many truly go to their end trusting that they will go to heaven or have another life after this one ends. Those of faith , for me can only be people to be admired , I have none at all, I just cannot get any .. I am not atheist or agnostic really , I just take life as it is , change it if i can , otherwise go with the flow. Religious people don't bother me , but what i always wonder about them is , if there was no promise of heaven , would there be religious people at all. ? saskia

Sarasvathy and all the lovely ladies from indonesia who are here , i have put this picture of me with my mother , when I was little ,( no i am not adopted .)...... Much can be learnt from an Indonesian woman , her temperament and her "" way" She is quiet , knowledgeable and always responsible for her family.. The indonesian woman is strong of head and decent in character with family loyalties being very important to her . One thing that she possesses is the knowledge of when it is smart to keep her mouth shut. She will rue the house and her husband , but is too smart for them to ever know she is doing that ... I think I told you my grandmother was Indonesian ... and my parents were born in Jakarta . We went back to look for the house my mother was born in on one trip there . The street name had changed and the house was hardly visible anymore because there had been shops all added to where the once huge verandah was, it had been extended upward , and the huge yard filled in with apartments . My mother only recognised the house from a tiny piece of a tiled roof on a corner. Where just one household used to live , now about 200 or more people live ...... best wishes saras , you have my private email we can always keep in touch my dear , let me know when u do your next trip .....
