Well Simmo, for the birthday of the product, they are hoping that Australians start their day with vegemite toast...so I guess you know what you are having tomorrow for breakfast.
Goodnight Simmo... thank you for coming to the party.
Welela...It is a type of savoury spread made from concentrated yeast extract.
It is quite bitter. Very unique. Most tourists make the mistake of spreading it too thickly onto toast, then they cringe as they eat it. It should be used sparingly.
I will admit that I grew up on it...so I am used to it.
My apologies, Chocheta... I wasn't meant to talk about you like you weren't here. But I do believe Simmo just asked you for coffee... I can be a chaperone if you like.
Chocheta is indeed stunning. The lady and I have interacted on the forums and she is lovely.
I did cut and paste it, but then, I always source things I cut and paste. Therefore that's the reason it's quoted in blue. (As for people watching, perhaps they might learn something )
Simmo, I have a feeling it's a question on a board game... thus the reason I recall the trivia. BUT you didn't lead anyone astray... it's true, it was called that... and that is what the slogan was.
Perhaps you are drinking too much at this birthday party...
Virgo, I stayed in Rotorua for days and tried a few of the local restaurants and then of course Waitomo .... and the food was brilliant everywhere I went in New Zealand. So it's truly their loss if they stopped trading with you.
Cat, I tried Bovril when I was young. We used to drink it hot... stir it into water. My father used to tell me it would put hairs on my chest. I used to check often...but no sign of them.
Simmo, I had this useless fact running through my head that Parwill was only introduced in 1923 as an advertising campaign to try and increase sales. So I researched it on their website and found this.
Poor sales of VEGEMITE spread resulted in its name being changed in 1928 to ‘Parwill’. Walker was determined to emulate the success of Marmite and the logic behind the re-branding strategy was simple; “If Marmite…then Parwill.”
Walker’s innovative method of marketing was, however, unsuccessful. Parwill failed to gain momentum across the country. It would take Fred Walker 14 years of perseverance and a change back to the original VEGEMITE brand for Australians to embrace what would later become an Australian icon.
A toast to vegemite
It was a delightful place to have lunch. There was water mist spraying as I walked in. The service and food were good and that's all I recall.
