A toast to vegemite

It was a delightful place to have lunch. There was water mist spraying as I walked in. The service and food were good and that's all I recall.

A toast to vegemite

Wow. Firstly... Hello stranger!

And yes, there is similarity ... they are all bitter and a bit salty.

RE: A blog for men and wome

laugh ...ahhh the truth has always been there.

A toast to vegemite

I tried Greek food in Belgium with some Greeks and they told me it wasn't bad, but it's better in Greece.

It was the first time I had tried Greek food and I really loved it. So I am going to agree with you.

um... laugh Did the conversation make you hungry?

(I am trying to recall what I ate in Vienna... it escapes me, I ate at the café at the Schönbrunn Palace)

A toast to vegemite

American's like peanut butter and jelly... I thought I should try peanut butter with vegemite... AND I like that! blushing

But ... brown sauce? Isn't that something you put on meat???

By the way, marmite and vegemite have that in common...both are salty and both should be spread sparingly. Not like Mike did in his photo. giggle

A toast to vegemite

Actually Z... you do look rather innocent, but I believe you may be the devil incarnate. devil

A toast to vegemite

Bajanshay ...You probably won't like it. Simmo was right when he said you have to grow up with the product.

...however for me, it's an integral part of Australian life.

( And ... pssssst...look at what it did to Mike!)

RE: What are you grateful for today?

Hello Bajanshay... Lovely to see you too. flower

RE: What are you grateful for today?

Vegemite. grin

A toast to vegemite

I am going to bite my lip here, Mike... because I nearly typed something facetious.

Z... And I thought you were the one who was set to be one of the Sopranos, and you were starting out with roses. shock giggle

A toast to vegemite

rolling on the floor laughing Mike, you look like you are a bit stunned from the experience.

A toast to vegemite

Well Simmo, for the birthday of the product, they are hoping that Australians start their day with vegemite toast...so I guess you know what you are having tomorrow for breakfast.

Goodnight Simmo... thank you for coming to the party. hug

A toast to vegemite

Simmo, I think this is a riot... I can't believe he took the taste test... I think it's only fair I pay him for that jar. laugh

Z...he made it out alive. If this was the Olympics... I think he would have almost got gold.

A toast to vegemite

Mike... giggle I think Z might be right... You are not going to cope with that much on the toast.

The rain to the wind said...

Hello there Bajanshay ... I am lucky enough to have a beautiful garden. One I really need to spend more time in.

Thank you for stopping by. bouquet

A toast to vegemite

laugh Z, I have to admit that a jar of vegemite lasts me at least a year or longer.

The offer was a sincere one though, if you want some, I will send you some.

A toast to vegemite

Welela...It is a type of savoury spread made from concentrated yeast extract.

It is quite bitter. Very unique. Most tourists make the mistake of spreading it too thickly onto toast, then they cringe as they eat it. It should be used sparingly.

I will admit that I grew up on it...so I am used to it.

A toast to vegemite

Not at all Z...they are different. Depending on reports...some say Marmite is stronger...but others say vegemite is.

I could send you some if you like.

A toast to vegemite

Adam, there are lots of things that I have never heard of... I love learning about things.

A toast to vegemite

My apologies, Chocheta... I wasn't meant to talk about you like you weren't here. But I do believe Simmo just asked you for coffee... I can be a chaperone if you like. grin

A toast to vegemite

Simmo, I can no longer recall the last time I went to Melbourne. I think it was when I arrived home from London and caught the train home.

Next week, I know I have to catch a flight too, but that is arriving in by train, bus to the airport.

Chocheta is quite amiable ... you should say hello to her.

A toast to vegemite

Mike, is that your polite way of saying no?

A toast to vegemite

Mike, would you like me to send you some vegemite?

A toast to vegemite

...rather like they did on the Nullarbor many years ago, Virgo.

A toast to vegemite

Chocheta is indeed stunning. The lady and I have interacted on the forums and she is lovely.

I did cut and paste it, but then, I always source things I cut and paste. Therefore that's the reason it's quoted in blue. (As for people watching, perhaps they might learn something laugh )

A toast to vegemite

blushing ...um, thank you for your kind offer, Cat...but I am old now ... I would know if I had adverse effects by now.

Have a wonderful day, Cat. It's always lovely to see you. hug

A toast to vegemite

Simmo, I have a feeling it's a question on a board game... thus the reason I recall the trivia. BUT you didn't lead anyone astray... it's true, it was called that... and that is what the slogan was.

Perhaps you are drinking too much at this birthday party...wink

A toast to vegemite

Virgo, I stayed in Rotorua for days and tried a few of the local restaurants and then of course Waitomo .... and the food was brilliant everywhere I went in New Zealand. So it's truly their loss if they stopped trading with you.

A toast to vegemite

Cat, I tried Bovril when I was young. We used to drink it hot... stir it into water. laugh My father used to tell me it would put hairs on my chest. I used to check often...but no sign of them. laugh

Simmo, I had this useless fact running through my head that Parwill was only introduced in 1923 as an advertising campaign to try and increase sales. So I researched it on their website and found this.

Poor sales of VEGEMITE spread resulted in its name being changed in 1928 to ‘Parwill’. Walker was determined to emulate the success of Marmite and the logic behind the re-branding strategy was simple; “If Marmite…then Parwill.”

Walker’s innovative method of marketing was, however, unsuccessful. Parwill failed to gain momentum across the country. It would take Fred Walker 14 years of perseverance and a change back to the original VEGEMITE brand for Australians to embrace what would later become an Australian icon.
