Sorry to hear about your cousin. The exact same situation happened with my step mother whom I loved very much. She was released from the institution, was not taking her lithium as directed, got severely depressed and commited suicide on her birthday, leaving my father without a wife.

My condolences on your loss too. Yes we will agree to disagree because our experiences have been different. That is not to say I don't believe alternative medicine has it's place, but like evrything, it has it's limitations.
Leave the "we" out of it. What you do or who you are behind your keyboard is your business. Not everyone is like that.
I say and do the same things in real life in front of anyone that I do and say on here. I am not someone who skulks around trying to be someone else or appear to be something that I am not.
I think this applies to most people on the forums too.
So speak only for yourself. You don't know the rest of us.
Like i said before HL I believe your intentions are good. I understand you just want to share.
It is important, however, to consider that not everyone reading posts are healthy and sound of mind and body.
Misinterpretations of what is said in here are easy. People die from misunderstanding information or having their own agendas.
I would only ask when you post an article that you add your own common sense to it and give the vulnerable a warning that this is not some miracle cure or even safe alternative that is being posted even if it comes from some other site originally. The internet is full of misinformation.
The young girl who died, by the way, was also a cousin of mine. She was a speech therapist and well educated, just vulnerable in her condition, and willing to believe anything that meant she would not be on meds the rest of her life.
I agree with you that it is beneficial to health Riya, but to do any real good in mental health terms it would need to be practiced with diet and meditation as well as exercise.
I don't know anyone here who practices it here that way. I used to years ago and it is amazing but for me too hard to stay vegan and get time from a busy life to exercise as often as I should have. I do what I can these days and still meditate.
You do make good points concerning clinical depression and bi-polar disorder, which I must point out, is not mentioned at all, anywhere in the article I have posted. That was my whole point!
The subject is YOGA. Now, have you ever practiced it?
Yes I have for over 30 years
Are you Bi-polar? I work with bi-polar people and people with various kinds of depression and mental illness.
If so, perhaps you have discussed with your doctor already, if yoga can benefit you in any way. I know you mean well but that is a bit condescending considering my experience in this field is probably greater than yours.
In my opinion, yoga can help about anyone, as it brings the mind, body and spirit into unity. It is a form of self-discipline, as are the martial arts and many other exercises. Self-discipline, which ever method is used to obtain it, is a good thing. It is healthy and leads to a happier and more fulfilling life.
I agree with this totally. It was never in question.
I believe this is the point at hand, so lets try to stay on topic and not let ourselves be led into bitter arguments. I had no intention of having a bitter arguement with you or anyone else. I was stating that the article , if you disect it, suggests that pills are not the answer and yoga is, "Don't automatically reach for an anti-depressant. Do some yoga". which is dangerous for some people with particular kinds of depression to believe. Some people who read forums, or even blogs, believe what they read and try things so they dont have to take their drugs.
Just recently one of the people I worked with (aged 26 and recently diagnosed), commited suicide, because she thought something she read was an alternative to lithium.
Sooooooo I have valid reasons for saying what I did. I did not personally attack you, nor did I act condescending . I plainly stated that this was dangerous.........
Perhaps some yoga to calm you or a cup of tea?[/ I thought that kind of statement was beneath even you...........
No offense meant here jolly but we don't always have teachers of that calibre here in the west.
Not everyone has read what Christ or Buddha have said either.
They go to a local community centre and do yoga with a western teacher who hasn't a clue about Buddha and they try to get fit, or supple, or just for exercise, or a social gathering.
It's not like they are on a life path to perfection of the mind, body and soul here.
Feeling depressed or down? Don't automatically reach for an anti-depressant. Do some yoga. These days, the typical treatment for depression comes in the form of a pill, which can often lead to serious side effects and dependency.
Pills might also save your life...........
It hasn't been mentioned here that some forms of depression don't respond to anything but pills.
Yoga will not do it for clinical depression, for instance, and some warning should have been given that you see your doctor first before attempting something like yoga for people who are already being treated for bi-polar, clinical depression, or even post-partum depression.
This article suggests that yoga can be used instead of regular drugs and this is not true.
I am talking to people I may be friends with eventually and one who is a really good friend.
I met one off here a couple of weeks ago, friend material again. Nice but way too much baggage. The one I met a few months back didn't suit in many ways.
Another is interested, but for some reason I'm not. Maybe we get apathetic on here or lose heart or something, or maybe I'm still not over my mother's death two months ago.
Really don't think I'm on the verge of anything right now, well not romantic anyway.
