RE: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMPUTER SAVVY INDIVIDUALS

Umm hate to tell you this but Acer make the bare bones for all Toshiba laptops, the main board etc is all designed and made by Acer, Acers connection to China is no more or less than HPs.
In my opinion Dell are not good as they use proprietary software to stop easy upgrades without going back to Dell who then charge ridiculous prices for the work.
I guess you have a thing against Chinalaugh But remember, it is only because they sell all over the world, especially to the US of A such things as mobile phones and computers that gave them the financial magnitude to bailout the huge Debts created in America. Where would America be today without the Billions of dollars China has lent to the US??

RE: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMPUTER SAVVY INDIVIDUALS

Thanks!! I was looking at some Asus,, pre "i" series processor.. I think it had a Intel® Pentium® Processor B950 (2M Cache, 2.10 GHz}.
and I just have not had to buy a computer or build one for anyone in quite awhile.
Thank You Sir.[/quote
I have used Acer laptops for many years and really like them, especially the quality of the display and the feel of the keyboard, although I am in reality an Appleman, I really prefer apple to any other computer as fast, reliable and virus free.
But next month ASUS will release a new netbook, the "Asus transformer prime", it appears to be a great little device and, for me, ideal with all my travelling, running Android OS so again less problems with virus infections especially when using in strange locations such as stations and airports. WIN7is ok, but does seem to be somewhat overpriced for what it can actually do. I like open source software as so cheap and yet usually better than MS products .
Just make sure the ASUS you are looking at can have an upgrade path for memory, as when win 8 comes out you will need about 4g to take advantage of its features.

RE: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMPUTER SAVVY INDIVIDUALS

There is a lot of hype regarding the processors in computers, most CPUs are more than powerful enough for average users. But they need to sell!!
It really comes down to what programs you intend to run, the most important factors are actual memory size and hard drive size, if you want to edit videos, then hard disk space is more important, skype uses little computing power but is regulated by the speed of the actual internet access so extra fast wifi would be an advantage.
I would recommend any Acer laptop or any Asus Netbook, these being the most popular according to google.
It is also worth looking at what you may want to connect to the device, as there are so many different ports now available, HDMI to display HD on your TV, USB3 to give faster write/read to external drives etc.
Read the reviews on the machines that interest you, they can be most helpful, especially regarding the keyboard feel and use,
Good luck cheers

Quote "Nitrates and Nitrites

One of the things that happens when sodium nitrate is used as a curing agent is that the sodium nitrate is converted to sodium nitrite. It's sodium nitrite that actually possesses the antimicrobial properties that make it a good preservative. Interestingly, the sodium nitrate that we consume through fruits, vegetables and grains is also converted to sodium nitrite by our digestive process. In other words, when we eat fruits, vegetables or grains, our bodies produce sodium nitrite.

Nitrites and Cancer

Several decades ago, some researchers raised the possibility that nitrites could be linked to cancer in laboratory rats. This suggestion received a lot of media attention. What received less media attention, however, was when it turned out that they were wrong. Indeed, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Cancer Society and the National Research Council all agree that there's no cancer risk from consuming sodium nitrite."

So who is correct? How many people do you know that have died from eating corned beef or hot dogs???

RE: Pizza is a vegetable, congress determined...

Real Italian pizza is very healthy, it contains all fresh ingredients, and real Pizza has a very very thin base, very little sugar almost no salt and lots of olives and olive oil, the fresh cheese is also very thinly used.Very unusual to see overweight children in Italy and they eat pizza all the timeprofessor
With regards to government stupidity, in the EU, the "POWERS" have no decided that it is illegal for water bottles to carry the message that "water can reduce the chance of dehydration" so scientist has decided it is not proven, not only stupid, but at a time when the economy is in meltdown, but they can afford to pay for this kind of researchdoh

RE: THE CHINA SYNDROME.

short answer, NO, because my views have already been lambasted by some, I have no wish to get into another slanging match. My understanding of the situation is simple, both sides are wrong, China, for not handling it well and going in like a bull in a china shop (No pun intended) and the Tibetans for allowing the ruling class (DL and his monks, not china) to control and manipulate them by force and fear.
The average man in the street wants china to continue to help and support Tibet, continue to build hospitals, schools etc and rebuild their temples, China is a Buddhist country, those who think china is trying to destroy Buddhism in Tibet are just showing their lack of knowledge and that they follow western media like sheep. However, Chinese government will not stand for any group who try to create disturbance and shake the foundation of their socialistic regime, which is why they are now fighting with the islams in North west China, as this region is causing a major upset between three religions. Chinese government has a hard job looking after the second largest population in the world, they need unrest like a hole in the head. More important is finding ways to keep industry going and to provide enough food for everyone.

RE: THE CHINA SYNDROME.

I am sorry but you are incorrect, Shigatse is still the name used for the central downtown area of this region, however, the actual township has the name Xigatse, It is very hard for western people to understand place names in China, they do not use the same definitions commonly used in the west, for example I live in a city named Chizhou, but the actual name of the downtown part is called Guichi, chizhou is the administrative name, and encompasses a much larger area, which includes the downtown part. If I go to Shanghai and say I live in Chizhou I get a blank look, but when I say Guichi, they all know immediately.
There is a huge amount of misinformation spread by western media regarding Tibet, and it would be fair to say that the DL is not as pure as some would like to make out, to get a better, more honest opinion, try visiting Tibet and actually talk to the local, it is an eye opener as I discovered this summer !!! It is not a religious problem but one of power.

RE: i am the root, god is the tree. who am i to worship and what for

Maybe you're seeking in the wrong places and getting incorrect information, for example; there is far more than one "God" in Buddhism, and they are not Gods as viewed by Christian/Islam perspectives, but rather sprites of past men/women who found their Nirvana.
Religion is always man made !!

90 lashes for an Iranian actress in anti Iran film!!

Please, show me where any poster on this thread has attacked or voiced an attack on Muslims. The point of this thread was to ask how any one can justify lashing a women who has just performed in a make believe film, which now appears to have more truth than was first imagined.

90 lashes for an Iranian actress in anti Iran film!!

It is not just bigotry Bob, it is showing a definite lack of respect and inequality towards Islamic women, something many Moslem's say is NOT the case for Moslem women, but now we have real proof. This is the 21st century, Iran should and must realise the damage such action will cause.

90 lashes for an Iranian actress in anti Iran film!!

The film was not supposed to have been released in Iran, according to the Australian produces, they say it was shown there illegally.
Even so, this king of behaviour does nothing to bridge the ever widening gap Islam is creating with the rest of the world.
Boban is correct, it will create more hatred and bad feeling, in my view this is when the Islamic leaders should stand up and be heard, showing that their religion can be tolerant. IMO

90 lashes for an Iranian actress in anti Iran film!!

It’s a depressing case of life imitating art.

An Iranian actress has been sentenced to 90 lashes and a year in prison for starring in a film that shows artistic repression in the country, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Marzieh Vafamehr was arrested in July and received her sentence at the weekend.

In the 2009 film, ‘My Tehran for Sale’, Vafamehr plays an actress whose work is banned by authorities and is forced to lead a secret life to express herself artistically.

Vafamehr often appears with a shaved head and no headscarf, and there are scenes of drug use in the film, according to Iranian opposition website kalameh.com.

Quoted from Yahoo news.

Is this what Sharia law is really about? to repress and humiliate women? or will Islam supporters say it is fair and right.
Can they not see the irony of this barbaric gesture against a performing art????? doh

RE: STEVE JOBS IS DEAD

If it wasn't for Steve Jobs, you would probably not be able to write your post nor even have a computer, it was his vision of having a small computer at every school that opened the gateway for the PC to emerge, Bill Gates would be the first to acknowledge this fact.
Jobs was also an amazing engineer in his own right with a mind most would envy. His innovation and far sightedness was truly wonderful.
We have lost a person who will go down in history as one man who really changed the world.

I have always also loved the fact that they charge you for entering Wales via the Severn bridge, but its free to leavelaugh

RE: There’s a country, named ‘Wales’! How is it?

I agree, besides, Wales is a beautiful country, with majestic mountains and amazing lakes, their own special language unpronounceable by most English people, Cardiff the capitol is a stunning city and the welsh people, once they come to accept you,are generous to a fault.
Famous not just for the singers like tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler and Shirley Bassey, but what about Dylan Thomas, Richard Burton, Roald Dahl,T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and Sir Harry Secombe to name but a fraction of respected welsh people.
It may be a tiny country compared to American states, but produced some very famous and worthwhile people.

RE: Angels and Demons are Real.

RE: Who Knows Where My Mindmate Is Hidden?

Furthermore, your understanding and concept of Buddhism is completely wrong, for example you state that Buddha is depicted as always fat, this is just one Buddha from thousands, he is known as the "Happy Buddha" Buddhist followers choose a particular Buddha with respect to a particular desire, Love, money, health, work, crops, food etc, each have their place within this community.
You state that Buddhist have no regard for past or future only the present, yet my teaching has shown completely the opposite. You show distain and lack of respect for those that follow a religion, yet this is a belief exactly as you have your belief in your quest, a complete contradiction.
It shows me your research is vastly flawed and therefore your premise for a mate is also flawed.
That you have such strong opinions is fine, but surely, when attaching such poignant views to searching for a life companion, you should check and triple check your facts.
Both men and women cheat, not because of intelligence or lack thereof, but due to some particular circumstance.
And where in your blog do you discuss LOVE? The whole reason we, as humans, search for our soul/mind mate.
I do find your blog interesting, but mainly because of the innate lack of reality and the underlying theme that at some time in your past you have been badly hurt by a man cheating on you and thus you tar 99% of men with the same brush.
Finally, I find no joy or happiness in your writing, just a dull, meaningless and dare I say boring existence, this could well be why you have no success. Again Just my opinion, no offence intended.

RE: Who Knows Where My Mindmate Is Hidden?

Basically you are looking for a relationship that guarantees fidelity and monogamy, which is exactly what us lesser mortals (You suggest you are superior to most women)look for. Well in my experience the only thing in life that is guaranteed is your own death!
You quoted an article suggesting that men who cheat have a lower IQ so you seek someone with a high IQ, what utter rubbish, Just look at history, some of the greatest minds such as Napoleon, Lincoln, Mao et al, all cheated.
And, as a long time member of MENSA, I can assure you that while it may be true regarding men, it certainly is not true regarding women.
You say you may "Live the nightmare of remaining alone forever" well of course, because you are searching for something that only exists in your mind.
Soulmate is exactly what you describe as a mind mate, someone who links mentally as a true equal.
Just my thoughts on your post/blog, no offence intended.

RE: Who Knows Where My Mindmate Is Hidden?

The question that leaps to my mind is what do you have to offer to this perfect ideal man?
All I deduce from your post is someone who has a wish list that is impossible to complete.
Why you ask ????

Because men are human too, and we are not, nor never will be, perfect.
Maybe when you have learnt the art of compromise your luck will change.

Best wishes for your search, but I truly, after reading your blog and post could never recommend a friend. wine

RE: ITALY IS ASKING CHINA TO BUY A LARGE AMOUNT OF THEIR NATIONAL BONDS. I REALLY HOPE SHE WON'T BE SILL

I did not say China was not blooming, nor did I say that western education was better than Chinese.

I responded to your post using my experience as a person living and teaching in China, in a very poor province.

RE: ITALY IS ASKING CHINA TO BUY A LARGE AMOUNT OF THEIR NATIONAL BONDS. I REALLY HOPE SHE WON'T BE SILL

As you wish.

Try reading the history, study the reason why Britain wanted HK, it was as a trading port, not for tax, Britain actually took very little money out of Hong Kong which is why it became such a wealthy country, it was to the UKs advantage that it remained wealthy so they could use the free port status.

However you have your view and I have mine, best to agree to disagree
