Look to do high speed rail...you have to do acquire rail beds and lay out new track with wider turns....to handle the speeds of the trains. That is billions just in land track acquisition costs.

General Petreaus came out with a report today. He expect the Afghan fighting in 2011 to be harder and more frequent.
Spring is coming in the region.....and that often means a Taliban offensives. This year that might be different. Both because of our winter time Operation Anaconda offense. And because the anaylist are saying the Taliban is going defensive.
Though it still a guerilla war....the Taliban are not being agressive in the field. They moved further away from NATO and US bases. Hiding is a good word here.
But don't be deceived...they were hiding prior the Tet offense in Vet Nam. Hiding can be a way to reconstitute and rearm your forces.
Assuming the Taliban come hard with a Spring offense....Petreuas is now in a position to locate them coming from the distant hides....engage them prior to them getting close to targets.
Having them come into the open....it is good. Staying in the hides is good to. If we know were they are. We have more mobility.More firepower. More manpower. From a military standpoint, it is all good.
